wgraves7582 - 2010-05-12 7:56 AM Well it is Wednesday and our son's good buddy is going in to have surgery to remove cancerous material in his knee area.  He is 13 y/o and I guess they call this Soft Tissue Cancer and it is not a good thing.  So far it is just in the knee area and has not spread so we are praying that they get it all and his recovery time is short with the required radiation treatments.  I just shake my head at the thought of that for a 13 y/o having to endure that.  His name is Cory and if you could pray for him as well I would greatly appreciate it.

You bet. Really sucks doesn't it? Tell your son I'll be thinking about him, too.

kali0824 - 2010-05-11 10:20 PM Hello Ghoulies!  Sorry for the lack of communication...I was on vacation in St. Maarten, but I am back now and training with a vengeance.  A little too much vegeance because I am so sore I can barely move (thanks to lifting weights...BodyPump to be exact).
My hubbie told me that for every pound I lose, I lose 2 seconds off my mile time.  Has anybody heard this?

I've heard and probably need to staple it to my forehead for those unmotivated days that I have.

Did you get to both sides of the island?  St. Maarten is where I got my wife's engagement ring so it holds special memories, even though we were only there for one day on a cruise.  It's also where I nearly lost my breakfast as a primary grinder with some gorilla across from me on the Canadian equivalent of Dennis Connor's Stars and Stripes.  When the crew encourages you to drink beer at 9 in the morning while you've caught the wind, just remember that you have to finish it before you begin tacking again because those boats were not built with cup holders!  I fell for it two out of the three legs and El Presidente beer and I are still not on speaking terms.

How was your vacation?

Thanks Anne!  I've lost about 5 pounds and I feel like I can go a little faster.

Vacation was lovely.  I like island life, but it makes me appreciate my air conditioned life in the states.

Haha!  We had our little ones with us so no fun boat rides with drinks.  We stayed in a villa on the French side, but we ventured over to the Dutch side to sightsee.  It was a lot of fun.  We really liked Grand Case because it was much quieter and little less touristy.
You can get jewelry over there for a really good price.  My husband bought a nice watch.
We had a French chef cook all of our dinners while we were there and I ate EVERYTHING.  I have been watching my weight pretty strict since I got back, but it was definitely worth it!

I am so sorry to hear about that.  It is never easy to watch little kids having to endure so much.  My thoughts and prayers are with you, the family, and Cory.

Now that it has stopped raining, I have some running to catch up on and some regularly scheduled swimming.

In other news, I did my first hill repeats on the trainer last night.  They hurt!

Well I didn't come on last night but I can update this morning

The surgery did not have to be as invasive as they first worried and it finished 1 hour sooner than planned.  All good signs.  They meets with pathologist??? Monday for further diagnosis/planning.
Please keep them all in your prayers still - thanks

That's such great news!  I will definitely keep him there and hope we get more updates in the future!

I think I remember there being a few oncology camps in your neck of the woods - would hope that someone in the hospital will tell the family about things like that, bc they're a blast - camp I used to work with had family camps & sibling programs too.....

Speaking of cancer, there's a 24-hour bike ride called 24 Hours of Booty (gotta love the name!) that's sponsored by the Lance Armstrong Foundation to benefit the LAF and local cancer charities in Columbia, MD (DC suburbs), Atlanta & Charlotte. You can actually ride as much or as little as you want - main thing is to be there, to show support, and to raise a minimum of $200 to participate. I'm forming a team of friends/family from my daughter's soccer team, and we'd love to have any of y'all join us on the ride - it sounds like a ton of fun, too. If you're interested, there are links to join the team & find out more about the ride from my page - http://www.24hoursofbooty.org/goto/Marla .

BUMMER - you're so close, I was hoping your interest might be piqued! Smile Let me know if you change your mind - cool thing about it is that you can ride as much or as little as you want - it's less than a week after my 2nd tri, so not sure how much riding I'll feel like doing myself, but it sure sounds like a helluva good time.

Had my first tri dream where something goes wrong last night.  I get out of the swim and run to grab my bike.  It's not there.  I run through all the racks, no luck.  Turns out I forgot to rack it and it's still in my car.  I had practiced the whole thing in my mind so many times, I thought I had racked it.  Pretty funny.

..but at least you weren't naked, right? Before my doctoral comprehensive exams, I had recurrent dreams of profs coming to get my finished exams and my having to lock the door and tell them to go away because I didn't have any clothes on. Every night, same dream. So, I figure if you screwed up but had your clothes on, you couldn't have been feeling too vulnerable, right?!
