trigal38 - 2011-02-12 7:02 AM I was looking forward into the schedule today. Just wondering if any of you have completed the weeks that focus more on one event? Like there is a week with 6 swims, followed by a week with 5 runs then 5 rides. What kind of effect did that have on your overall training? I live 40 minutes away from the pool so chances are not good that I will be able to swim 6 different times in one week! Especially if gas prices keep rising

Also I think the bike is my weakest event. I just bought a new tri bike and the weather is letting up a little. I think I would like to add another day on my bike. I was hoping someone could give me some advice about how long the ride should be and where to put it. Should I wait until I get out of this base phase? I'm just finishing week 2 today.

Thanks!

If you want, you can add a bike. It's all about knowing and trusting yourself and honestly evaluating your individual needs. You are all following a solid plan, but you are all different people that can and should adjust the plan wisely to address your needs. A 45-75 minute ride once a week might suit your needs better than an extra swim or run. For now, just make it an easy base-building ride to get more time in the saddle.

Finished my half early AM today.  Overall a great run and thrilled with the outcome. I ran about a 1:41:35, this is estimated, but the f-ing race website says that my Bib No corresponds to a full runner (says half huge on my bib) so I DNF?  I crossed at 1:42:45 and went of 1:10 after the clock started.

I don't know what to do about the runner tracking, i REALLY want my exact time.   Anyways, whatever, here are my splits from the garmin.

1- 8:10
2- 8:01
3- 7:53

Here's the tracking: http://running.competitor.com/2011/02/races/2011-rock-n-roll-mardi-gras-marathon-half-marathon-coverage_21414

I'm #2693.  I guess I've just gotta wait, I think I within 10sec have it right but just wanna see it on the site.  I don't know how to contact race director and there's no real support on the site.  Frustrating but trying not to let it cloud this whole thing.

I feel pretty good.  Thighs feel tired but not sore.  I'm feeling lazy today so I think I'll give myself a break today (or maybe not).  It was REALLY crowded and temp was as high as 83F.  Oh and thanks!

OK i just watched a video about transitions that my friend let me borrow, I'm scared.  I am going to have such a slow T1 and T2 because I can't do all these complicated things!

Hah!

Forget transition....I'm just hoping to make it back to land - LOL

Honestly though....I can't wait. I think it all looks so dang fun to try. I can't even imagine the excitement of the start, the swim, t1, the bike, t2, the run, the finish....all of it's gonna be freakin awesome!

Transitions are all about planning and practice. Do those and it'll be a piece of cake.

And congrats on your HM time. Thats great.

Do you think the race officials will mind if I bring in a cot so I can take a little nap in t1 and t2 in order to recharge my batteries?  haha.

Got my longest swim ever in today..3000yds.  Yay!

Shoes on bike when starting, rubber bands,  laying all this out so quickly, i donno.  So many things to do and not do.  On the other hand, I have food poisoning or a nasty virus and spent all night puking.  F**k my life.

First, I hope you feel better :-)

Next, the whole rubber band on shoes attached to cleats seems way out of my league. Ideally, I'll finish my HIM around 5:30. An extra 30 seconds to put on my shoes in T1 without fear of falling on my trying to do it while riding is well worth the time. Perhaps after much practice it could become second nature, and maybe that's where training and racing will eventually take me, but for now, I'm putting my shoes on after my helmet and then running my bike to the mount line.

Hello.  My plan is a IM in November but thanks to the advice in that forum I'm planning on an HIM in June and am going to mesh the BT HIM plan with the TriFuel plan mainly in the running.  I live in Mexico and have my first sprint in about a month (and first triatlon since the early 80s ever) and boy have the rules changed in some 20 odd years.  I have no idea what is legal and what is expected and still trying to figure out what to wear for the sprint.

Ugh, that sucks.  I hope you feel better.

I'm no expert but I agree with DV 1 about the shoes.  I'd much rather have a minute longer transition than fuss with shoes while people pass me or end up with blisters b/c I didn't dry my feet or something.  What I've found is that if you rush in transition, you'll muck it up.  You're already all wound up and, for me, it's forced 'slow down time' so I can breathe, switch equipment, think about the next leg, ensure I've got everything, stretch for a minute or so and then off I go.  It might be personality dependent but I need that extra few seconds for mental & physical focus on what I'm doing.  Trying to do all that as fast as possible at all costs could end up with missing gear/nutrition, sand in your shoes, and a panicked feel about the start of your next leg.  Practice your set-up.  Practice doing the transition and then slow it down and focus during the race.  You'll still go fast due to adrenalin, but you won't forget things or panic.  At least that's my experience.

My neighbours sat on their back porch drinking beer last year and watched me run through the sprinkler in my wetsuit and then run to my backyard transition area, rip it off, and then ride my bike around the neighbourhood and return and start again.  They were pretty drunk by the time I was done and got a HUGE kick out of watching me suffer.  LOL!

I would keep it simple. In an HIM, the few seconds you save are not worth the risk of having difficulty getting your shoes on while riding. I have seen even the pro's have a disaster with this. Plus you will probably be in a very high traffic area making it even more risky.

Sorry to hear of your ills. Don't think you need to be vulgar about it though.
