Kinda quiet in here, everyone still doing the 12 days.  Its okay if you miss a day just start on the current day and keep going.  Day 5 is 5 minutes of stretching.  Day 4 is done with a near 5 mile run (kind

So we have:

5 minutes stretching
4 lunges
3 Leg Lifts
2 mile run (20 min walk, ride, or whatever you can do)
1 minute plank

BTW, a link for a proper lunge:http://www.ehow.com/video_2365368_do-basic-lunge-leg-exercise.html

Hmmm....I did the lunges but think that I'm supposed to be doing all of the previous days too, right? If so, I ran today but need to do the plank and leg lifts later tonight.

Yep, you need to do all of them (or as much as you can).

Wow - where'd the weekend get to?

Rode a 40m group ride on Saturday and was absolutely shot at the end.  It was back in the summer when I last rode close to this distance, so not a real smart move on my part.  After this ride, I'm a true believer in the guidance of increasing distance by 10% per week in order to go longer.  I was thinking my usual 25-28m weekend ride was close enough and I could handle the distance, but this proved to be too big of a stepchange.  I did go out too fast for about 18 miles or so, but even if I'd saved some energy it was still too long.  At about mile 30, the tank was fairly running on fumes and the ride leader dropped back to see how I was doing.  I told her I was totally shot and from about that point forward barely held a 14-15 mile pace to the end.

Just wanted to mention this as a caution ... Clint Eastwood said it best, "a man's got to know his limitations".

Dorm - congrats on sticking it out!

Ran 9.8 miles tonight at a slow and steady rate.  Felt good while the knee was acting up at the end I could have gone longer but had to head out to pick up the kids from their youth group xmas party.

BTW, the mentor group is opening up again and I will probably open us back up for a couple of new members.

Hope everyone is sticking with the 12 days:

Day 8 - crunches

Day 9 - tricep dips

I have to admit I haven't been sticking with it :-(.  With that said, I did get a 9.6 mile run in today.

Mike -Liz - Gary ... just want to comment on your advice for running and to say it's working.  For the last 2 weeks, I've hit the treadmill every trip to the gym and tried really hard to not overdo it.  I've slowly notched up a bit on the pace but kept the time the same and I must say there's not been much soreness.  This week I'll add on another 5 minutes per run, and keep the pace same as last week ... again don't overdo it.

Thanks again ... have a great week all

Hey all!

I am trying to keep up with the twelve days but yesterday was a wash.  Had Tapa's/White elephant gifts for lunch then CIO had party in the afternoon.  By the time I got home food and exercise were no where near what I wanted to do and blew it all off.  Back at it today.  Rest of list tomorrow.

Dorm - Glad the running is working for you, my long runs continue to be a bit of a challenge.  Will be out near you next week.  Flying out to Greensboro on Christmas day to see my mom and sister in Greensboro.  Coming home on Weds.

12 mile ride
11 crunches
10 -jumping jacks

Nice work, Dorm!  Glad that you're not so sore.

I've done a few of the days of christmas work-outs but have been pretty hit or miss.  I'm going to try and do it today though.

Gary - How does it work with the new mentor groups?  This one gets archived, right?  are you planning on starting another one?  If yes, I'm in again.

Whew- thought I lost you guys. I'll get the credit card payments updated as soon as I finish all the challenge moves- lol.

I haven't done the best on the challenge. Kept up to day 4 but then 21 year anniversary- WOO HOO and root canal with abcessed tooth- Boo Hoo- kind of both interfered. I have managed the items for days 1- 4 everyday but I couldn't even tell you what the last few days have been. Going to do them all tomorrow and do the total that should have been done so will catch up. Not quite the same but I'm trying- lol.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hey all!

As for the 12 days just do what you can.  Keep moving and hopefully manage the typical holiday weight gain.  I have gained three pounds so far but have been waging battle to lose those three or at least keep to this weight.

We leave for NC on Sunday and may not be able to post until Weds.

I got an email from Ron on adding new members and will decide what we are going to do (I don't want to lose all of the great info that has been built up on this thread).

One of my goals for the group in 2012 is better manage race schedules.  Thinking maybe a common Outlook schedule or a spreadsheet.  Thoughts and ideas?

Never post, but read aLot. I started the group, and spent most of last year injured in some shape or fashion. Just started training again. Have you thought about a google calendar? Everyone can see it and use regardless of operating platform. Most smart devices have it built in. 1 calendar for everyone....or separate calendars shared with those you want. And - BT calendar will export to google. That's one of the ways I keep track of my program this year.

Hey! Its great to see you back!  Hoping you will stick around and post more.  I think the google Calendar would be a great idea.  I will try to get this set up after my NC trip unless someone else wants to own this.
