First "real" tri this year!

My bike results kept me out of last place in my age group! Yeah!

Wicked thunder/lightning/Rain about 1/2 way into Bike.  Then steamy for the run!

Bike was so much fun - garmin registered 39.5 MP/h!  And, it allowed my to meet my goal of not being LAST again in my age group!

First tri since clavicle surgery ...

Nice sized field (400?) - will post full details later - placed 4th out of (I think 32) in my category ... I think my swim and T1 were solid - I crushed many many dreams on the bike - I passed 87 people (I love counting "victims") - the only guy that passed me (a team mate on Team Sunrise TRI) I caught in the headwinds coming back ... my T2 was mediocre and my run was pathetic ... but I finished in the heat and humidity with a solid time that if I just properly gutted out the run I may have made the podium ... once the official results are posted I will put up a proper race report.

Have a headache - hung out with a ton of cool people - made friends with my rivals - and now 2 weeks until my next sprint - must RUN RUN RUN between now and then and the treadmill obviously will not cut it ... ugh.  Hope everyone is having a successful weekend!

David as I ran I was praying for the wind that they promised us ... instead for me it was almost a death march as the 90 degree heat tempered with the stifling 70% humidity helped spike my heart rate to a pounding 181 - and I was NOT running fast ... you would think a run that ends on Fire Island would have a breeze - I sure felt a headwind on the bike but I guess at my slow pace running there was no headwind to be felt.

I finished 174 out of 474 ...

I was the 4th out of 17 Clydesdale's - my wave was Clydes, Athenas, Civic, and Relays so I had the plus to being in the smallest (numberwise) starting in the final wave.

If I had competed in my age group - I would have finished 24th out of 51 ... so yeah I still have a ton of work to do especially since I am now down to 10 pounds left to lose and I will be out of the BIG BOYS category.

Splits are still not posted

Sorry for my absence.  My computer at home has broken the last couple of days.  Congratulations to all racers this weekend. Troy,  Looking forward to hear how the branbury classic went.  Two weeks til Nationals for me, am looking forward to such a large field of racers.  (2400 I believe).  Hope everyone's training is coming along.

Looks like my final position was 168/465 ... the remaining dozen or so teams were relays ...

My swim was 13:10 for 151st place ... the three guys that beat me in the Clydes all swam faster - one guy just crushed us all, the 2nd place guy I was faster than on the bike but he beat me at all else ... and the guy that came in third had a great swim, but I had better times on T1, the bike, T2 and the run (surprisingly) ... but his 3 minute lead on the swim I just could not overcome and he beat me by 52 seconds ...

Writing my race report now.

Congrats on the races Ben, Matt and Troy!!

I ran 9 miles in the heat yesterday. It was not fast and I must not have recovered well because I feel terrible this morning. Glad I got it done, though.

Howdy Peeps!!

Had a pretty good race yesterday ... I remain frustrated with my run after bike. I think it's a product of really feeling good about where my biking is going and not wanting to give anything up on the bike. But I just couldn't find the run pace I wanted yesterday.

Nonetheless, I placed third in my AG but don't have a handle on how many in my age group started. Last year, I think there were 15, but it may be a smaller number from yesterday. I just hope it's more than 4. I was 36th overall.

I was very disappointed to learn that this event was cancelled as a qualifier sometime within the last month. I had really hoped to race the Nationals. Why it was cancelled so close to the event remains unclear. USAT indicates their decision to cancel it results from issues with the new RD. Nonetheless, I think it's in poor form to do that.

I've got an e-mail into USAT, and have since heard back that they may make exceptions for folks in this race. So I may still get to join you, Scott.

*****

On another note ... I had looked into that Abassador program a while back, Scott to see what sort of "sponsorship" opportunities their might be. I was just asked to submit an application for Gilette. I'm wondering how you're enjoying the Aquafor experience, as I may consider it. It would depend, of course, on what the team kit looks like.

Great reports and nice new rides.

Work took charge of my life for awhile but I think the reduction in training has been a good thing for my body.  Had a great morning running, riding and swimming today before 7 hours of travel.

Off to hotel gym for some more riding to get a sweat going.

Took bike in for some grinding noice I have been hearing and that is costing a lot - they say I bent the big sprocket by the way I pedal....find that hard to believe but it was crooked and the chain was loose so we invested some money to fix.  This is an expensive sport.......but so engaging.

Cheers,  Jeff

Good morning all!

In the midst of a wee bit of procrastination before heading out for 5 or 6. I'll see if I can find another small and cheap tri to race before the end of the season, but I have none on the schedule. I'll be moving into a run focus 12 weeks soon prior to the Philly marathon that I'm running with my daughter (her first!). But I'm going to get some serious climbing work done on the bike before I retire to the trainer for the winter.

Ashley ... my hope is that your family has or is about to expand by two and that you're reveling in the experience!

Good morning, friends!

I come to you exhausted and excited as I spend time with my THREE children. I apologize about the delay but to say we have been busy is an understatement.

My wife, Charlie, gave birth to two future triathletes on Monday afternoon. Max Oliver and Miller 'Millie' Olivia were born Monday around 2:30. Everything went great and everyone is doing well. Momma is good and getting her energy back.

I don't know when I'll resume trainig. I feel like a slug the last few days. I was able to get in a 20 mile bike ride Saturday and a 6.5 mile trail run Sunday.

I look forward to the 2028 Olympics. Max and Millie will have their transitions perfected and should claim a medal in the mens/womens triathlon. Kona will be great one day when I can do it with all 3 of my children!

I'll check in again soon! Congrats to all the racers and everyone's progress!

Well I gotta update y'all on my swimming progress. As most of you know swimming has been very frustrating for me since I began trying to learn it a few months ago. I've watched videos, read books, hired a coach and nothing has helped. I could barley swim 50 yards without just being completely out of breath and exhausted. 2 weeks ago one of the retired guys from my club met me at the pool and worked with me for 1 hour on the TI method and it finally clicked! Today I swam 600 yards with no breaks and wasn't even tired when I finished. The best part is my time is actually significantly faster, I take less strokes, and I barley even have to use my legs. What he taught me was basically total immersion with a few changes that fit my style better. Swimming is finally fun and I look forward to getting in the pool every day.

My first official Tri is in September and I finally feel prepared. I can run 3 x the distance, bike 4 x the distance, and now I can finally at least swim the distance. Time to crush dreams!

JJ-That's awesome. Way to stick with it!

I'm just thinking ahead a bit to winter. I was thinking of trying Jorge's winter cycling program. Scott-I know you've tried it-do you think I'm ready? Anyone else have any thoughts?

So my pool is closing for 2 weeks-just after I get back from a week's vacation where it will be difficult to do any organized swimming.  Because of this I'm trying to decide if I can do an OWS in the ocean. I'm not sure if I could just swim the length of the beach because there is a lifeguard but I've always been taught to have a healthy fear of being pulled out into the ocean by the undercurrant. Anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Good afternoon, everyone!!

Hope everyone is having a good week. The Hutsons are doing well. I feel like a slug this week with no training but I am going to get back to it on Monday.

Nicole, it sounds like you need a few more doses of HTFU to do an ocean swim. last time you took some, you rocked a triathlon! This theory works for ocean swims as well. Odds are you won't get swept away. Do a short distance ocean swim and start increasing the distance a little at a time. I would give anything to be near the ocean and be able to swim. Takes two HTFU pills and call me in the morning!

I miss the camaraderie and training talk! Go do something this weekend with your family and tell me about it Monday!

Thanks, Ashley. I was going to go either way just wondering if there were some safety rules I should keep in mind. I'm actually going to go out when I know someone else will be walking and can keep an eye on me. Tomorrow I'm going to try some barefoot running in low tide just to see how it goes.

I have this vision of the middle of the night when you're telling the twins to HTFU.Wink

Good morning!

Between being a freak about the Olympics, and things picking up for me a bit at work the past 2 weeks (continuing this week),  I've been quite delinquent in my posting responsibilities.

Ashley:  Congratulations!!!  Excellent news. Enjoy the excitement!

JJ: Awesome news about the swim. It's nice when it finally all clicks into place.

I am about to head into 12 weeks of run focus while prepping for the Philly marathon. I'll be running it with my daughter, and it'll be her first. Very excited about that.

Also, I spent the weekend turning a basement guest room into our training room. Put down a rubber floor, moved the weights into there, and then put up a cheap flat screen on the wall for my winter training with Trainer Road and Sufferfest. Here are some pics:

Troy,  That is a nice pain cave.  Many hours of sweating will be had I'm sure.

Taper week for the nationals for me.  Very excited.  This is my "A" race for the year.  Should be a fun time.  Logs are current if you want to guess my overall time.

1500m swim

24 mile bike

6.2 mile run.

Have at it my friends if you feel like.
