My first scheduled race isn't until May 21 but I could pick up another race sometime between now and then.  I don't have anything on the radar for now though.

Hows your training going Krystyna?  After all the long course stuff are you relieved to be working on shorter distances?

My training is going pretty darn well, I think... I'll find out at the beginning of June, when my "real" racing season begins! I like to break up my season into 2 stages:

- EARLY: train hard and have a blast, and sign up for plenty of fun events (run races, cycle events, maybe a sprint tri?)

- LATE: seriously epic training, and seriously epic racing. Long course business.

I'm not doing short course just yet (maybe that'll start in September!), for now I'm still focusing on 70.3 and full. I've got 3 70.3's and 1 full on the race calendar so far. TOTALLY EXCITED FOR THEM.

Are you excited for the upcoming half marathon? Any goals or times in mind?

My first race is also the 21st of May

After the run yesterday I made sure to properly cool down and stretch but last night and today I'm having a good bit of pain from my hips and my hamstring is tight on the left leg which is also where most of the pain in the hips is coming from, nothing debilitating just enough to remind me that it hurts, any thoughts on what it could be/fixes?

Need to get a swim in today but not looking forward to that cold pool

I think I'm up next w/ a HIM on April 10... I doubt I'll be "crushing" anything since I've only been tri'ing for 1 year and I've followed a beginner training plan.  But, who knows... I may just have to get out there and call on my eagle powers and see what happens...

I have my first Tri on Sunday at the Lavaman Waikoloa....voted best afterparty in Triathlon...free beer from Kona Brewry!!!  It is Olympic distance and it looks like I'll be very close to the 3 hour mark.  A decent portion of the run is on lava or coral rubble or sand, so I think that will slow me down some.

Training has been going ok...though not as consistent as I had hoped.  Unfortunately, the wife and I of 13 years separated a month ago, so my motivation has gone from very high to very low depending on the day.  Good thing is that I have made new friends in the community who are into fitness.

I'll also be racing this Sunday...just a short uphill time trial.  Should be fun.

I am excited about this race.  I have never run this particular race and I think it should be a very scenic run.  It is around a large lake that has some really nice homes around it.  This will be my 5th HM and, if everything goes well, it should be another PR.  I have a goal time of 1:35 or maybe a little better.  My last HM was 1:38:00.

Heater is still out at the pool, and I'm not really into survival swimming so more bike and run for me...

And for the 6th year in a row I'm working the largest running event in the Charleston area, the cooper river bridge run, I'd really like to participate at some point but with expected 60k people participating it's all hands on deck have a good weekend everyone

Hamlet,  I hope the ankle stays in good shape, your only one wek out from your HM.  Is this your first HM?

Kirk, Can you schedule a day of vacation around the event next year to secure the day off?  I have run with 35k people but I can't imagine the madhouse it will be with all those sweaty runners getting lost later on.

________

My day of training is complete and I am shot again.  The extra work and lack of sleep over last weekend and a kind if crazy work week has me all tied in knots and worn out.  I slept 9 hours last night and still was screwed up for my run this morning and I had to back my pace down to even feel like I would even be able to finish.  My swim I also decided to slow down my main set so I didn't have to pass out on the side of the pool.  (That could be kind if embarrassing.

I hope to knock down another 9 hours of sleep tonight so I can hit the brick like I would like to tomorrow.

Got in an easy 5 mile run at lunch and will swim 2k in OW after work.

Plan is to ride an easy/moderate 50 miles tomorrow, then race my TT Sunday morning.  Hoping to get in a 8 mile run in the afternoon.  After that, my next race won't be until the middle of May...so it will be 6 hard training weeks that I'm looking forward to.

My wife and I ran our first 5K together today.  She finished 15th in her age group out of 34 and 178th overall out of 600 31.50.  I finished 7th in my age group out of 20 and 24th overall out of 600 21.42.  It was a great time and my goal was to finish under 22 min.

Nice Job on the 5k and nailing your goal!!

I went for a long ride today, I ended up with a total of 56 miles. I averaged 18.2 mph, not to bad considering the wind. My hamstrings started cramping a little, I couldn't tell if it was from dehidration, low on electrolites or seat placement. I stopped and adjusted the seat and that seemed to help, I guess I will find out the next ride.

Hey your pretty fast!  Thats a great time!  How did your wife take you ditching her?  Did you start with her or head to the front of the corral?  I would love it if my wife would run a race with me!  She's not the athletic type though.  As far as your placement thats pretty impressive in itself.  Remind me not compete in races that you're going to be in.  We live close enough that it could happen.

Jarrod, thats a pretty decent ride.  What kind of climbing are into?  I am still wishing I could get some climbing.  I may have a little bit of a chance next week when we head to Ohio to see family for a long weekend.  It is much more hilly in our hometown but still nothing like what you have ridden.  I am hoping to top my rides out this summer at 70-75 miles and possibly a little higher if I can get the time with the marathon training too.

My ride today was pretty flat, there is some hills up by the guys house that road with me for the first 30 miles. It's only a 500 ft climb or so, When its warmer and if I have time there is a ride that has lots of hills and is around 58 miles or so. I think the first climb is 3000 ft its not as steep though.

We were together at the start but she knew what my goal time was so she understood.  I cheered her on the way in and even had a water for her at the end Ha-Ha.  My next race will be the Illini Half Marathon and I will not be going that fast.

ankle is holding up fine.

news, (not bad, just news)

the HM was moved for a week later so its the 17th instead of the 10th.

which makes me nervous because theres a chance (small) that I could miss it. I received an invitation to fill in in an orchestra out of town. (all expenses payed) so I hope I am not called out for that weekend. if I do miss it theres another HM I could do in early june... decisions decisions.

Had a good race this morning.

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=247035

Official standing weren't available, but I think I finished 5th in the M18-34 division, and probably something like 15th out of 65 overall.

Very pleased with my time.  And after racing 3 times in the last 5 weeks, I'm glad I can go back to full time training for the next 6 weeks.

Someone tell me if they can see a problem with this scenario.

A guy at work ran a 10k race last weekend and said he ran it in about 52+/- and placed 3rd in his AG.  when he was presented with his 3rd place ribbon he heard that 1st and 2nd place came in at 29+/- and 30+/- for the same distance.  There was not a purse for this race so no pro athletes were running.  Another part to the story, they were running a 5k race simultaneously.  What do you think happened?

_______

Good thing this is a recovery week.  My pool is closed for spring break so my best shot at a swim is over the weekend when we are visiting family.  I am thinking about trying to pick up another easy bike but my legs are a little fatigued today and I don't know if I can get the bike in the car for the trip.  I am going to push a run in a day ahead of my normal schedule because the norm is a travel day.  The same on the way back, except that it is a normal double WO day.  I'll just have to see how things play out?

Will, What is your bib number for this coming weekend?

what AG? the 29:xx is pretty hard to believe. that would be almost OA win. and 30:xx wouldnt be too far behind.. I have been to races with no price purse where very fast 'elite' runners show up, just for the sake of racing. but that is weird.

Once I came in 4th in my AG, 1st ran 35:xx and the rest of us ran 42:XX and above, so it can be a matter of who shows up sometimes.

Was there chip timing? mat at the 5k point? looped course?

No chips and the AG was mens 30-34.  For a mile split time for a 10k race that would put the splits at 4:40 miles.

There are a lot of runners in that AG that could run those times. BUT no chips? Did they look like runners? like they could run 4:40 miles? they would've been almost OA winners for a small race.

ETA. I am trying to find why they didn't cheat, as everything looks like they did.
