Another day in paradise? Supposed to rain again today, so my group ride this evening most likely won't happen.

I blew through my budget replacing my water heater, so my race trip I planned to Austin Memorial Day weekend is kaput. I need to see if they'll transfer my registration, maybe I can sell it.

Not much else happening. Probably head out for a bit tonight for Cinco de Mayo with some friends.

No, my mother has actual problems - this is not a question of "she's a chick, therefore she is slightly off". Plus, I don't believe that women are "crazy". Men and women are just different. But my mom - definitely crazy. Like, needs mediction/therapy crazy.

Sucks about the water heater and the race.  Have fun tonight.

Hey kids!

So...it happened to me.  I was on a bike ride last night, and the clip fall struck.  =)  More details in my blog from yesterday, but it's freakin funny.  I mean, it wasn't at the time.  But it is now.  =)  Anyway, as long as it NEVER happens again, it's all good.  =)  And I love that it happened on day one of RAGBRAI training.  Sigh...

it is always funny to fall on your bike, as long as you don't get run over in the intersection or something.  i still have slight scars on my palm from my first day clipless, they make me smile.

I've crashed while not moving a few times now.  Once I got my foot caught in the frame or the chain (no idea how, but I've got skills) causing the back wheel to lock up.  Once on ice while I was still pedaling but my bike wasn't going anywhere, that was a cold puddle/ride home.  And most recently on my new bike the first day I took the new bike out fully rigged for racing at a stoplight inbetween a bunch of cars.  Luckily I have yet to damage a bike doing this.

Yeah, you're good to call a BS level on guys.  We definately can have an overabundance of it.  As well as chest hair.  Neither of which are great in excess.

And I understand the difference between "crazy b/c of being a girl" and "mental instability" crazy.  I hope things get worked out for your mum.  That's got to be a stressful situation.  Therapy can be wonderful with a good therapist, but can be a real bear if they aren't.  For the record, I <3 my therapist, but have since been able to pretty much not need her anymore as I've been able to lose my self loathing by subsitituting training for it.

Calling the BS level is a must.  Unfortunately BS level and craziness are a sliding scale.  What I considered crazy at 18 now seems like boring day to day stuff.  I'm hoping to have set my craziness scale permanently after what I dealt with last summer...anyone who nears that point of craziness again will be immediately disqualified from any type of relationship.

Yeah, apparently she's seeing a psychologist that she actually likes. So hopefully, she will continue with that. I think there are some undiagnosed mental issues on her side of the family in general - I'm guessing various forms of depression/anxiety. I was at home over Christmas and saw a family history book that I think my grandmother had filled out - apparently, some time in the 40's I think (maybe earlier), there was a female relative, mid-40's, who committed suicide. I didn't get to read it carefully to see what the details were, other than that she hung herself. And my mom's older sister had some sort of breakdown back in the day, I guess - she's never gotten married, never finished college, never had a really good job. Their other 2 siblings are/were very successful though (other sister passed away, which is why I say "was").

Not too bad actually, it was a pretty random occurence, but when we got to talking, I basically told him that he needs to chill out and not push his training practices on other people and be aware of who he is telling these things to.

I posed the question "what would you rather have? Someone is out to get in shape and be able to finish their local 10K, but maybe their training isn't as effective. Either you let them train the way they want to and they finish, but maybe not as fast as they could have. Or, you go all gung-ho on them and try to explain to them complicated training ideas, such as junk miles, and they end up saying 'eff it' and stay on the couch and watch Sportscenter all night instead."

He got the point, but was still being an a$$ about it. He kept insisting that there was such thing as junk miles. I said "dude, you are missing the POINT."

Left the conversation at that. He has provided fuel for my training fire and I plan on laying him to waste at one of my races this summer.

Dude.  That's crazy!  I would pass out if I fell between cars!  And no bike damage yet?  Nutso.

What can I say?  I have skills.  Luckily the cars weren't really moving yet.

On an completely unrelated subject, have you been to the Durham Museum?  I've got a cousin who is going to be taking a position there as Associate Curator of Exhibits later this month.

This seems to happen a lot.  Happened to me Saturday morning at my race (not on the topic of junk miles).  Hopefully you completely destroy him at your races this summer.

I hope things work out well for her, and you, and the family as a whole.  Coming from a family with lots of mental health issues, I understand how difficult it can be to function as a family.  I also have suicide in my fam hx, as well as lots of depression/anxiety and a few other less than helpful antisocial behavioral issues too.  So I don't find it too bad at all living 800 miles from my family for the most part.
