Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I worked out another route today on the bike and this one kicked my tail a little bit. It was a 41 mile ride, which is the farthest I have ridden so far. The wind was coming from the ENE at 15 gusting to 22 and the route started heading west for the first 11 miles. Yeah that's right a tailwind to start and a headwind to finish......Man am I dumb! The route baack was just short of the 11 miles into the wind, probably 9 miles, and my butt was dragging for the last 5-6 miles of the way back. At 29.5 miles my avg. was 18.9 mph (great tailwind) and it fell to 17.1 by the time I got back home. I had 9 miles where I was at 13 mph or less. As of now, 2 hrs. after the ride, my legs are still burning. It was a great ride for some tough training. And yes I knew it would suck on the way back into the wind. But I wanted a change of scenery and I do like to challenge myself sometimes too. Overall it was a fun ride. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The 5mile run I had scheduled for today never happened because I quite a rough night/morning/day. I went on an overnight camping trip with my best friend. It was fun but those sorts of activities don't make training the next day very easy. |

Well if you were camping like me, activites for the next three days would not be very easy. Hopefully you didnt damage yourself too much and can get back to training soon |

![]() tri808 - 2010-05-15 3:58 AM My masters coach gave me a good visual for not crossing center. He jumped in the pool and stood right in front of me. He told me to put my head in the water (while still standing) and make as if I was stroking with my arms. The idea was that when my hand enters the water...I should not touch him as he is standing in front of me. When you extend and roll your body, your hand and arm will naturally move closer to center...but not so much that you will cross the center line. So now when I actually swim...I pretend that there is an object about the size of a human waist right in front of me...and as my hand enters...I try to avoid hitting it. Another thing you can do is if you swim in the middle of the lane...look down at the black line. If that black line extended all the way up to the surface, your hands should not enter the water over the black line...it should always be to the outside of the black line. Thanks, this is a good one indeed. Imagining someone in front of me or checking the line should help. |

![]() jgerbodegrant - 2010-05-14 6:52 PM Wilco, I'm not sure what the "vertical forearm phase" is. Explain that one to me. I'll check out your vid. tonight. Damn government always spoilling my internet time. Jonathan, by "vertical forearm phase", I mean the part of the stroke after getting my forearm vertical and not pulling before I get my forearm vertical. |

However, the pool is great. The cold water clears the head pretty quickly and all though these workouts might not be challenging normally, I always feel better afterward ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I survived the wedding weekend. It was a blast! I'm still recovering. I was the maid of honor and official which was pretty cool! Great job to those that raced and congrats on your boats David. It's time to get really serious about my training, been waffling since March :P Think I need to sign up for my first tri as a warm-up this season to help me get into that next gear. Quick question on peaking and planning, I've read that you really only peak twice and maybe three times in a season. Is this correct? I know that this is probably going to be dependent on each person because of their base and background. I know that I am still in my base laying stage but I'm trying to figure out how I should set up my training so I'll peak at the appropriate times. I'm looking at the Toyota US Open as my A race which isn't until October 10 of this yr. This is one of the most competitive races in the area and I want to do well (dare I say...hopefully AG podium?). I did this race as my very first tri last year and I was 4th in AG. 2nd in swim and bike but almost DFL on the run.....yeah, I got out run pretty badly. |

IMHO multiple peaks per year really depends on where the individual is at fitnesswise in regards to their maximum potential and how far apart the races are. Most AGers(myself included) are haven't come close to reaching their genetic potential which means that multiples peaks are possible because the individual is sees frequent fitness gains. How many peaks are you looking to accomplish? The concept of peaking is pretty simple as long as you nail the taper, which is arguably the most important part. |

Dude, that is fantastic! That is a blistering bike leg and a fast run to follow. If you get that swim time down, you're going to be a threat. If I can manage those average times for a sprint, I'll be happy...and I'm totally being serious. Great job! |

I'm not sure if anyone else does this...but if you are wrestling with your wetsuit, it probably means that it was stuck on your hands or feet?? Take body glide and cover the outside of your suit about 6-8" up your legs (from the bottom) and around your wrists. This way, when you fold it inside out against your hands/feet, it can slide off. You can also spray your feet with pam, but it seems to come off. |

![]() Hey Carl...we're going to be PT buddies. I just ordered the same wheel...only in black with black wheel cover. I talked to WB this morning and got the same recommendation. I ended up getting the Pro+ hub. Didn't need the system as I have my garmin edge on the way. I'm sure they are going to catch the mistake...but WB just changed their pricing so that the standard option is to just order the PT hub only...and you pay extra to add on the computer system. They did this correctly for the DT swiss and Velocity packages...but they messed it up on the Kinlin package...so I'm paying about $180 less than I'm supposed to. We'll see what happens...but I'm not going to argue if they let me know they need to bill me the difference. |

Um, peak once? ![]() Yeah, I knew the question had a lot of variables and factors in play just trying to figure out if I can put in the training volume I would like. I have A LOT of base training to do so on top of that I have vacations and company business trips/conferences already planned that I have to take in consideration as well. You know, and the usual life commitments. I think I need to just sign up for the races I want to do and designate them as A, B, and C races and work the training plan backwards.....right? |

Hopefully I can find free shipping someplace or at least have it added onto my existing order. EDIT: I just called WB and asked them to add the HRM to my order. I must say, the folks at WB are some of the nicest people I've ever talked to on the phone. Edited by carlwithac 2010-05-17 6:04 PM |
