Bill, couldn't resist earlier re five fingers.  I have given some thought to the vibrams.  Unfortunately, I'm too far into marathon training to try those for long runs.  I am thinking about giving them a try next spring.  Nervous though.  I'm more or less keeping the plantar fasciitis under control with orthotics, never going barefoot etc.

lol - I feel like the slowest typer in the world.  I feel like by the time I get my post done and hit send, it is already on the previous page.

Looks like I'm going to have to pull out my old "Mavis Beacon teaches typing" to work on my speed!  Now, if only I could find a 3.5 or 5.25 floppy drive out there somewhere.  Tongue out

That is very cool Ann about the Brooks tester. Those are the shoes I wear. Good job! Free stuff is always very very good.

I wear Brooks too!

Ghoulie Girls Do Brooks!

So why did you choose Brooks?  I'm thinking I need to find an alternative to my Saucony's.  They're great for runs up to 8-9 miles but I'm not loving them on the longer runs.  They start to rub on my right foot where I have a slightly protruding navicular bone.  In fact, was thinking about a LRS visit later today.

When I went to the LRS the girl helping me got out 9 pairs of shoes and told me to try them all on. I liked the way the Brooks felt right away, they were light and comfortable to me. I also liked a pair of Asics and a pair of Mizuno. I got it narrowed down to the 3 and tried them all on again. In the end I took a chance with the Brooks and I've been happy with them.

Last time I was in the LRS, they showed me to lace up the shoe, skipping the lacing across where the bone protudes.  So far it has made time in the shoe much more comfortable.  I'm not sure what bone it is, cause when i look at a foot diagram the navicular bone seems too close to the ankle compared to where mine is.

Now back to your regularly scheduled of Bill's bone and his lack of hand time with it...

That is a good thing right Shawn???? - LOL

As long as you're satisfied in the manner and frequency that those five fingers not belonging to you rub it, I agree that it is!

Kim I have a protruding bone as well - my five fingers don't bother it

Never?????

Nice catch - I thought I covered it up but you busted me - LOL

Why are you trying to cover it? Melindy has spent the past several weeks trying to uncover it!

I've been trying to uncover someone else...

Bill's uncovering is purely for punishment...and not good punishment.

I've laced shoes like this before. I believe the bone is the medial cuneiform, although it could possibly be the first metatarsal.

Kim - that was all I was talking about - I didn't mean the shoes one bit - just so you know!

You could use flats for a while also to help the transition - but I would not do that in the middle of your program - wait till you rock the MCM then switch around during recovery!

This is what I'm thinking about doing. Maybe start out by just wearing them around the house or possibly to work to walk in before I start running in them.

Yup, the pic I'm looking at I would say one of those two bones.  boy does it make buying shoes tough!

Bill, you are The Most.  The man who sets himself up deliberately for the entertainment of the ensuing carnage!

No, I'm not changing to flats or vibrams this year.  Just need to try a few new shoes on.  The problem is it isn't an issue until I get to 10+ miles.  Doubt they'll let me test drive shoes for that many miles.

I had the same issue with bike shoes.  I just got some fancy Specialized S-Works shoes that are awesome.  I think Andy wears them too.
