Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Spent part of this morning piecing together a 16 mile run for tomorrow on www.gpsies.com. Gotta load it onto my Garmin tonight. I'm learning all the backroads and how they connect. It looks like the weather is finally starting to break. We're supposed to break 40 this coming week with hopes of 46F! I really wanted to get the bicycle out on the road on Monday, but it looks like I might have to set the trainer up Sunday night instead. And boys - don't forget to go buy a card before Monday (and cards from the kids too, if applicable) |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Artist - Beautiful landscapes! Kelly - Thank you for sharing your swim video. It was very helpful! Off to sushi and a movie with my husband (no, it's not a Valentine's date......we don't even buy cards for one another). We have one rule - no talking about the kids ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() headed up to spend a few hoursback country x-country skiing. Temps were high 30's and the sky such a deep blue it took my breath away. Did some good hill climbing at about 7700 feet. Snow was fresh with very few snow mobile tracks in the fresh snow. Wore my dog and husband out. |

They referred me to a program called Run Right at the Cleveland Clinic. I am going to look into it! Just like Paula Radcliffe! That's so cool. She uses the anti-gravity tredamill to train when pregnant. It be sweet to have one of those in your own home. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just had my first run in with the trainer apparently It has two gears hard and harder. I don't know how you can ride that thing for two hours. |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is very useful, thanks for posting it up! I definatly have poor sighting, im always looking ahead in the swim rather than down at the pool floor. My hips are also way too low into the water. I always wondered why people used fins at the pool, i thought it was because they were being lazy! haha. I might try this out as well as i definatly kick predominantly with my ankles. |

I don't know how you can ride that thing for two hours. You also may want to check how tight your fly wheel in the back is set against your back wheel. If the fly wheel is super tight its going to be really hard to turn the crank and you may want to loosen it. |

If possible I would go with a triathlon store rather than a running store just because the tri store will understand the purpose of the shoes a little better. |

Want to elaborate on that a little more Kelly? Besides some tri running shoes closing a little differently is there really a big difference? |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Long run this morning. Couldn't get out of bed at 5 like I hoped, so started about an hour later, but the Sun came up after about an hour and it was kind of nice running in daylight. I overdressed a little, but it was funny - there would be spots where you could feel the temperature had dropped 10 degrees or so as you moved through. Missed my target mileage by about 1 mile. I'll know better tonight when I upload the garmin. Beautiful morning though - nice and crisp and the roads were mostly clear of ice. I just wish people would slow down a little and pull over some when driving by - nothing like having someone zip by you at 50 and only be inches away. Have a great weekend and enjoy the heatwave in the northeast - gonna break 40 supposedly! |

Want to elaborate on that a little more Kelly? Besides some tri running shoes closing a little differently is there really a big difference? Two things -- One I generally think lighter shoes are better for tris. The when you get wet you shoes get soaked and shoes that are comfortable dry can leave you a bloody mess. The other thing is you tend to run a little differently off the bike than if you were just running alone. I think tri stores with good shoe departments consider that fact and don't just analyze your "fresh" run. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today was my first actual running race. It was Cupid's Chase 5k in Hartford, CT. This morning was about 9 degrees when I woke up, but by the time the race started it was prob about 25 degrees. Perfect weather. I started with a very slow pace warm up for just over 15 minutes. I finished that about 15 minutes before the start of the race. Not sure if I should have waited to do my warm up closer to the start or not. I beat my goal, and finished 23:38, averaged a 7:21 pace, and finished 31st out of 297 and 3rd in my age group. Fun day for sure. Edited by rizer22 2011-02-12 1:40 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() uhcoog - 2011-02-11 10:23 PM Think I'm gonna break down and go get a proper fitting for running shoes UHCOOG, I visited a REAL running store on Thursday last week. I was running in Nike Shox, because I thought they looked cool. Fleet Feet in Hartford put me on the treadmill, took a video of me running from behind, and was able to narrow it down to several options. I picked up Asic Gel Nimbus's. So much lighter than the Nike Shox, and so much more comfortable. Maybe that's not a TRUE shoe fitting, but it was the best experience I have had in picking out actual running shoes. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() rizer22 - 2011-02-12 2:21 PM Today was my first actual running race. <<snip>> I am amazed at people who can run that fast - even more amazed at the marathoner who run almost twice as fast as me. Great finish @ 23:38. Now you've got a PR to chase for the rest of the year! And way to podium in your age group. My best so far is top-10 in AG. |

I had a crap day at work (11.5 hrs)...no workout for me today ![]() Work probably counts as the workout. Heading down to Southport to run a Z1 20K training run with Erica and then intervals on the bike this afternoon. Groin is not happy so we'll see how well it holds up. Thankfully its going to be "warm" again today. |

![]() | ![]() morning all - got back from atlanta last night. what a lawyer conference the past few days. so more shmoozing and learning than training. did get in a couple runs and a ride on x bike. today is a family day as I've been out of town, so i'll try and get a couple hours of work in, then kids stuff. As usual at these things, when my wife is not there to keep me in line, i stayed out an hour or so too late and had a beer too many. But, its good to see friends from around the country that i only see a few times per year, so a couple bad training days is worth it. Back to work, but not looking forward to today's weighin. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I offcially lied (not purposely) in my race report. The results were posted last night online, and changed from what they posted, post race. Anyway, there were 247, not 297 runners, and I finished 4th in my age group, not 3rd!! I didn't liek their timing system either. They didn't use the chips in the bibs or on the shoe. They just had a guy clicking something when you crossed, and another guy writing numbers down as you finished. So the people that started in the way back, their times were calculated when the race started, not when they crossed the starting line. Either way, the times I posted on here were from the Garmin, and were accurate, and also matched what they posted since I started at the front of the race.
Have a great sunday. 5 mile run for me today. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 208.6 weigh in for me this morning. yeah, Kelly, yesterday should count as a workout ![]() Add in the fact it was GORGEOUS outside for the first time this year and I was bummed. Should be able to get in a run this evening after work, though. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() being on your feet for over 11 hours is certainly a workout. Hope you get out and enjoy the nice weather today |
