First,

GOOD LUCK!!!!!! you'll rock it out.

On the race front, personally i;d do the closer one, and just not do a full taper for it.
You may miss a min or two in time but you'll get more training in, and recovery wont take a full week. You'd be smart to rearange some stuff then, ie maybe swim a bit more, and knock out hard running/biking, but you'll be good in a few days. you can fit that into your schedule and just adjust. If you are training enough to race a half marathon it wont be hard to fit that into your schedule.

A lot of people, myself included have goal races but race often leading up to it

I got out on the bike for a little while. It felt great. My IT Band would tighten-up a little, but stretched well. I was feeling like 20 miles, but at 11.4 my rear tire EXPLODED. A 3-inch, ragged chunk of the center strip came off and it went flat very quickly. I want to think it was for the best; I was originally contemplating another rest day today 'cause my legs were feeling stiff and sore. I did try to go somewhat easy, so hopefully I'm not horribly sore tomorrow.

Was this outside??  Lucky!  I got a nice little 50 min run in today down the snowmobile trails in the woods. What an awesome workout that is!

168 lbs

Good week last week.  Will try and keep the running mileage up around 40 and get some more bike sessions in.

Back down to about 157...which is about where I was pre super bowl weekend.

S/B/R goals were good last week.  This week is a rest/taper week for me.  I have a 8 mile run race coming up next Monday...but it just so happens I need a down week from training anyway.

191.8 for me.  Getting closer to my goal.  Didn't feel so hot this weekend though, so there wasn't as much eating as usual.

Goal for this week is to get outside and enjoy the slightly warmer weather!

So I ended up going with the Zipp 808 firecrest clincher for my front wheel.  It was more than I wanted to spend, but there's a company up in upstate NY that offered me 20% off, so I said, what the heck.  Still didn't spend all the money I got for my wheelset, so I'm satisfied with that.

Does anyone have experience with carbon clinchers???  Are there brake pads that you can use with both???

Took the bike outside for the first time in 2011 today! What a great wet, dirty ride, at times I felt like I was on trails on my mountain bike instead. The roads out here in La Crosse are great for biking and in the 20 miles that I was able to sneak it I found some great climbs, and a rode that looks to be ideal for a TT. Forecast is calling for these temps to stay for at least 10 days so hopefully I can get out more. This area seems like it will be great for riding an similiar to the IMoo bike course soI love that. Now its's off to clean my bike, boy does it need it.

Was this outside??  Lucky!  I got a nice little 50 min run in today down the snowmobile trails in the woods. What an awesome workout that is!

Yah, it was on the "main drag" through this tiny town (there's literally one traffic light, a single blinking red light facing one direction). My tube had a small gash, so I'm figuring I hit a piece of glass that I didn't see. The chunk out of my tire was ragged, not clean like a slash. It was more like a really thin, 3-inch strip of C4 was detonated just under the top layer of rubber.

Had a good ride today. The Cat 1 Pro with whom I work wanted a "nice easy recovery ride" after his race in Phoenix this last weekend. Yah, "easy" for him usually means I'm breathing kinda hard. Today it meant I was struggling to stay within 25 yards of him. He's a great guy and slowed down to let me draft in the headwind. Just shy of 20 miles in 1:15. I know if I keep riding with him, I'll eventually be able to almost keep up. Maybe. If I can almost keep up with him, then I'll be keeping up with the main group in the group rides without much trouble.

I miss snowmobiles, and snow, but it got up over 70 degrees here today w/ 4% humidity and an 11mph wind. If I could keep it like this year-round (maybe a little hotter so that the pool will open), I'd be fine. Or even better: just like this, but with a small lake fed by a hot spring. Yah, that'd be awesome. Now, back to reality.

it was 68 here today. NO IDEA where that came from, but i decided to ride to work this afternoon, and then was going to ride home right after.

buuuut in stead, i got to within two miles of school, and boom, double flat.

luckily i had two tubes with me, fixed both, and then wham, number three!

walked about a mile, and then some guy gave me a ride the rest of the way.

fun times all around.

Good all around wheel.  Not heavy per se and still a good shape to them.  What year did you end up getting?

Have you figured out what size bike you are looking for?  Did you get an initial fitting to see what bikes fit you best?

Oh man!!!  Are GSC's in?  I ordered four boxes from a guy at work.  I am going to be leaving three of those boxes at work for the guys to eat.  I know what you mean though.  I throw those little minty devils in the freezer and eat them by the sleeve with a big glass of milk!  YUM!!!

The wheels are an 08.

Bike size is either a 52/54 in a felt or a medium in a Specialized.  I have been on both bikes and all the sizes. I have been looking used but may end up new if May comes and I do not find a bike.

The real answer is no, brake pads are not really interchangeable.

It all depends on the braking surface.  Aluminum braking surface - one type of pad.  Carbon braking surface - need cork pads or composite pad.

The pads can pick up some shards of aluminum, especially soft ones like cork or composite, those alu shards get embedded in the carbon on your carbon braking surface and that's bad!

So if you have a set of training wheels and your race wheels have carbon brake surfaces, you need two sets of brake pads.  I simply have two sets of brake pads/holders and swap them when I swap wheels, only takes a few minutes and saves those expensive race wheels.

Of course if your carbon clinchers have aluminum brake surfaces, just ride the bike baby!

Finally home!  Got into the states on Sunday afternoon and flew up to CT to grab the truck and the bikes.  Got fitted on my TT/Tri bike...awesome.  I'll post pictures a little later on when I get back to GA and settled.  Wasn't able to get any tri specific shoes just yet, but did manage to pick up a pair of new Sidi road shoes for $75 from the LBS.  (75% off...wow).  Also picked up an Adamo Road saddle for the TT bike.  Going to take the Specialized Tri-Tip saddle and put it on the road bike when I pick one up.  Just packing the rest of my stuff up this morning, then have to make the long drive back to GA today.  it's nice being back in the states again.  Glad to see everyone is doing well.

On the fitness/weight loss front, I gained a few pounds during travel, but it should come off pretty easily once I'm able to get back into the routine of working out everyday.

220 again this week.  I have been struggling with my food choices lately.  Sweets seem to be showing up everywhere and are my biggest down fall.  I am going to try self discipline one more week and if that does not work I will start counting calories again.

first time i hit a pothole on a downhill, popped both tubes.

second time i have no idea what happened. could not find anything with the tire. It could have just been an old tube.
