I'm getting ready to start training for my first HIM.  Does anyone have a plan they'd recommend?  The BT one doesnt work for me because of the schedule.  I need a plan where I swim, bike and run on the same days each week.  In the BT plan it varies from week to week.  I need to do the same sports on the same days of the week each week, does that make sense?  Its going to take a lot of planning and babysitters to pull this off and so I need each week to be the same.

Anyone get any good tri stuff for christmas?  I got a lululemon gift card.

And I dont know anything about swim coaches in DFW area.

I used Gale Bernhardt's 26 week HIM plan from her book "Training Plans for Multisport Athletes"  It has a repeating schedule like you are looking for.  It prepared me well for my first HIM last year.

What day you do what isn't as important as getting the volume in so you could use the BT plan, map out the volume for the week,  then rearrange the workouts to meet your schedule.

Here is another free plan you can look at http://www.trifuel.com/triathlon-training/Half-Ironman-Training.php...  The Bernhardt plan has some longer rides than the trifuel plan.

No good tri stuff here.  I just buy what a need/want (within reason) throughout the year.

Liz ... the only comment I offer is make sure you train so as to get the distance in.  I did a 40 mile out and back ride a few weeks ago and bonked after ~30 miles.  I could not imagine having to do a 1/2 Mary, once the ride was complete.

I have been sick for a few days now with allergy related gunk. It's really wearing me down with fatigue. The excuses are coming quickly. Does anybody have any tricks to stay on point with my plan?

It's ok to take a couple days off to recharge, just use it fully.  By that I mean chicken soap and extra sleep.  According to Friel's book, you can miss 3 or fewer workouts for illness and not worry about making them up as long as you were consistent before the missed workouts and continue to be consistent afterward.

Hey all!
We got back last night and had a great visit with my family.  Kids had a great time with their Grandmother and their cousins.  I only managed one 30 min run while we were there but I think the time off was good for my body.

You all have been busy and let me catch up:

The calendar is setup and I had it send invites to all of you that I had email addresses for.  From the sounds of it I will need to resend.  I setup each person with full rights.  Below is the link, please give it a try.  If you can't access it please let me know.  In the meantime I have an old email account that I will invite and try to access.  Hopefully I will figure out what I am missing.

Here is the link: https://www.google.com/calendar/render?tab=cc

Elizabeth, I use the gold plan on BT which lets me specify the days I work out and it then generates your plan based upon your preferences.  I have a bit of the same issue as I usually can't swim on the weekends and long rides have to be Saturday, etc

Fit - Yes I setup a profile but its in the staging area and they will move it over soon.

Tracy, +1 on what Mike said.  He is referencing "The Triathletes Bible" a good but long read.  What a lot of people try to do is push thru their cold/illness and just end up extending their cold.  If you have been keeping with your program you should be able to pick it up from where you left off.

Sorry for all of the posts but picking things up:

I am not overly impressed with Googles process  but I got it to work.  Basically the old email account received an invite to join Google mail and once I set it up I was asked if I wanted to share in the group calendar.  If you already have a google account you just need to log into it and accept the invite.  Sounds like the invites do expire so check them soon and if it does I can resend.

Tracy -  As for a swim coach I am a big fan of using a swim coach to improve your technique.  Unfortunately I don't know any coaches out there but have you tried the Texas forum?

Sorry about the wrong email before (gmail.com is correct).  The calendar works for me and I added a virtual 5k on January 28th.  One of the blogs I read is hosting it.  I put a link to the blog in the event if you want to join in and run a 5k that day.

Happy New Year everyone!

Happy New Year to all!

Okay, lets hear your 2012 resolutions!

Mine:

Continue to increase running distance - 1000 miles running

Get faster on the bike - Avg 20+ on my sprint in Oct

Improve swimming - make masters swimming more often and swim a 1:20/100m in the pool by years end

Set a PR in NOLA

Aim for top half of my new AG (50-54) in my two races in Oct.

Mike, yep and will be a stretch goal.  Granted my cavaet to this is that its in a pool and I only need to hit it once.  That said my fastest 100m in the pool has been around 1:38 I believe so have 12 months to drop 18 seconds off of that.  Note that any help from the fishes in this group would be helpful!!!!

Fit - I missed one goal which was to do one race with you so start training!  Sugarmill sprint in Oct (7th) is supposed to be a great race and not to far (Lafayette).
