Now it is down to availability and cost. I have driven more cars around sharp corners, raced between red lights, done donuts in parking lots, packed down alleys and slammed on brakes from 40 MPH than the average person in the last 2 days. |

Master 3479 Utah | Subject: RE: GHOULIES moving towards the islands. Robin that sounds so fun!! Donuts, huh? You lucky girl! I did something similar, but on a much smaller, and less aggressive scale yesterday. I'm looking at replacing my pathfinder. I drove the ford escape and the VW tiguan. As far as the acrs go, for what it's worth, I've driven the Prius V and liked it, but I liked the whistles and bells on the 5 as opposed to the 3. Can't rememebr exactly what they were now, but I remember liking the idea better last spring when I was looking at cars. I haven't driven any jettas, but I do own (okay, lease) a golf hatchback. Love it. And it's not the TDI version, even. That's the car that The Girl will likely be driving...if she ever gets around to taking the driving test.
Happy driving! |

Side by side comparison Unless you are doing a lot of stop and go driving the hybrids really aren't worth the cost. I'm also not sure if manufactureres have changed this since a few years ago, but generally the hybrid batteries aren't covered under the warranty and they're expensive to replace. |

Happy driving! I had an Escape several years ago and I loved it. I don't like the new body style though. I've been looking at Explorers, and they're only slightly less ugly than the Escapes. Both SUV's look very sissified now. My husband used to have an Explorer and it was tough. It looked tough, and we beat the crap out of that thing. I've recently started looking at Kia's, because they aren't the bottom of the barrel anymore, I like the looks of them, and I can get everything I want in one and save $10,000 vs the price of the Explorer. |

Kias are really good and reliable. I agree on the Explorer. They took the work out of it and put in... I don't know what. Batteries are covered for 150,000 miles and these days people are reporting getting 200000 + miles in. Payback in cost is better, too. We will see what I can find out today on financing. Ugh.. I haven't financed a car for 30 years! |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: GHOULIES moving towards the islands. Picked up my car from the shop on Saturday and we were discussing what kind of car I should get next. I do want a small SUV, hubby talked about a hybrid, but then we discussed the cost of replacing the batteries, and I'm not convinced that I would be doing any savings of dollars when you compare the cost of gas to the cost of the battery. My volvo S60 is 9 years old and I love it. |

My volvo S60 is 9 years old and I love it. The batteries are cheaper than they used to be and need replacing way less than they thought. I have been researching them pretty heavily lately. It is looking like the Prius V in the battle of the prices now. An hour ago it was the VW. We will see where it ends up by the end of the day. |
