Member 836 North Augusta, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED Anyone use the Speedfil A2? I like the idea of being able to grab a bottle on course and just dump it into the bottle I already have on the bars. I like the idea of how easy they are to take apart and clean (compared to other between the aerobars hydration systems I've seen). I currently have a water bottle on my seat tube (only place you can put one on the Felt B16 frame) and I have a water bottle cage zip tied between my aerobars. This is fine if I only need 48 oz. of hydration or if we stop at gas stations along the training route to refill. However, I'm thinking about HIM in Sept. and need to sort out how I'm going to hydrate/fill on the fly. I currently have a saddle bag under my saddle where I keep my spare tube, levers, CO2 cartridges, etc. I could put a water bottle mount back there, and then put everything in that bag in a bento bag on my top tube. Alas, I'd have to buy the mount for the bottles and buy the bento bag. I do like the idea of having fluid sort of 'in my face,' as it makes me remember to drink more often than less. Also...if I go with a bento box, any suggestions for a Felt B16 frame with the internal cables? The other dilemma is that I use Infinit on the bike. At my pace, I figure I need at least 3 bottles of nutrition, so I have the dilemma of needing to carry a serving of Infinit to dump into water given to me on course if I refill to one of my current two bottles. Doing that while riding isn't appealing to me. Thoughts? Suggestions? Something I haven't thought about? Edited by glfprncs 2013-07-06 1:08 PM |

New user 410 | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED Good luck Rachel! I have a question that seems silly but here goes. I am looking at some new tires after 3 flats in a week, two today. I found some on Probikekit that I am interested in, continental Grand Prix 4000s. My question is do they typically sell tires in pairs? It says tyres in the description but I don't know if the 1 quantity means 1 tire or 1 pair. Thanks for any clarification. |

Any time I have ever shopped for tires it has been single tires not pairs, but doesn't mean it can't happen whatbwerenthey asking for them that would help determine ow many. |

I can put up to 5 scoops of my formula in a 24oz front mount. Every 10' I take about a 1oz sip of it and follow it up with H20. I also drink H20 between the 10' feedings to make sure the Infinit is not too concentrated in my gut. It took a while to perfect the ratio, but now it works well for me. For HIM and below I only need to one bottle. For anything greater, I pick up a second bottle at special needs. |

Thanks for the reply. |

I hadn't thought about concentrating the Infinit in one bottle and then diluting it with the water from my other bottle in my belly. I could then swap out the water only bottle with an on course bottle at the aid stations and not have to worry about mixing anything while on the bike. |

Extreme Veteran 692 England | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED Thanks guys! It's been an incredibly tough day but I loved it. Quick summary: Swim went well. Really pleased with my time Bike - I crashed. Then had a blow out. So my time was somewhat slower than I hoped. Run - the temperature was 32C (90F) at its hottest. Considering the average summer temperature here is in the low 70s, no one was prepared for that. I actually coped better than most and was able to continue running all the way, but it was an exercise in cooling and hydration, not running. So all in all it was much harder than intended, but I had a great day, and of the 11 from my club I came in 4th! All the fast boys were struggling and I'm shocked at some of the people I beat! And I didn't stop smiling all day. I even got interviewed on camera. Proper race report to follow after I've had some sleep and more pizza and beer! |

Master 3205 ann arbor, michigan | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED Rachel, Your synopsis is a pretty darn great race report as it stands. Congratulations on playing the hand that was dealt and it sounds like doing great. Smiling all of the way speaks volumes about you and the race you had. My Olympic went well this morning. 2:17:20ish. It was hard. I had my first experience with someone drafting off of me. It was so blatant that people were talking to the guy behind me telling him to cut it out. I was pretty happy that I was fast enough to be draft-worthy. I will tell more when I get back to the land of wi fi. Nancy, Those are really nice tires if you read the reviews. A really good combo of durability and performance. I have some fueling and hydration thoughts that I will share when I'm not typing on a phone key pad. |

Master 3058 South Alabama | Subject: RE: Slornow's and Wannabefaster's Summer Mentor Group - CLOSED The Continental GP 4000s are great tires. I use them for both training and racing. Other places that typically have good prices on tires include www.biketiresdirect.com and www.bicycledoctorusa.com Not sure what their current prices are but run some good specials. Jason-nice job. Speedy time. |
