tri808 - 2010-05-17 2:46 PM Hey Carl...we're going to be PT buddies.

I just ordered the same wheel...only in black with black wheel cover. I talked to WB this morning and got the same recommendation. I ended up getting the Pro+ hub. Didn't need the system as I have my garmin edge on the way.

I'm sure they are going to catch the mistake...but WB just changed their pricing so that the standard option is to just order the PT hub only...and you pay extra to add on the computer system. They did this correctly for the DT swiss and Velocity packages...but they messed it up on the Kinlin package...so I'm paying about $180 less than I'm supposed to. We'll see what happens...but I'm not going to argue if they let me know they need to bill me the difference.

I'm very excited for mine! Except I just remembered that the Elite+ doesn't come standard with the HR strap. I need to pick one of those up before my wheel ships. Hopefully I can find free shipping someplace or at least have it added onto my existing order.

EDIT: I just called WB and asked them to add the HRM to my order. I must say, the folks at WB are some of the nicest people I've ever talked to on the phone.

what are you looking for from a HRM that the power meter wont tell you?

I'd just like to see the relation between power and HR.  I plan to train and race 100%with power.  The HR data is just something to look at later.

Is anybody else experiencing pretty demoralizing weather as of late?  I live in Southeast Michigan and I've had plenty of experience with the horrible weather here but it seems like it's been unusually terrible lately.  Several days last week and this week it has rained ALLLL day long which made riding impossible unless done on the trainer.  What's worse is that when it finally stops raining and I can get out on the roads, it seems to be windy as all get out.

I know that the wind makes you stronger but it really crushed my motivation when I know that I'll be fighting the gusts for at least half of my ride.

jpbis26 - 2010-05-15 9:33 PM Finished my first tri today. You can read my race report at:
http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=208132

Great job.  I'm not sure if anyone else does this...but if you are wrestling with your wetsuit, it probably means that it was stuck on your hands or feet??  Take body glide and cover the outside of your suit about 6-8" up your legs (from the bottom) and around your wrists.  This way, when you fold it inside out against your hands/feet, it can slide off.  You can also spray your feet with pam, but it seems to come off.

Thanks

I'm glad it's not just me.  I know that I need to HTFU sometimes and take advantage of the bike opportunity.  I also know that it is the next best thing to hills since my area is all flat.

15mph might not be windy for some, but it sure beats the hell out of my body and mind after a few miles.

Ok, I know this varies a lot from person to person, but how long do you generally wait between races?

I was not planning on doing another tri until Oct. but...there is one in CA in July that is about the same distances as the one I just did. I know I can't expect to see much of an improvement in 6 weeks, but I thought it might keep me motivated to train over the summer. What do you think, too soon or should I do it?

Oh,yeah. More good news. My friend who I run with 2x a week has agreed to do the HM with me in Dec. We are going to start running more over the summer to train.

I don't see anything wrong with doing another race in 6weeks.  That seems like plenty of time to train.  Right now, I'm glad that I don't have any races coming up immediately because what I really need is several weeks of long and hard uninterrupted training.

I have finally had some nice weather here!  no snow or wind for 4 days now!!!! Hoping to do a longish bike ride tomorrow - of course that depends on the wind being less than 20 mph, b/c I too hate the wind and here in WY 15 mph is the norm!

carl, if you live where its flat, just ride longer/ahrder (this is why time vs distance based plans are a good thing).

I did my first 4 seasons of triathlon training in norther/central ohio. FLAT. some of my best bike splits on both flat and hilly courses came from training in that area.

you just have to use it to your advantage, lots of long hard rides!!

Actually, it finally turned nice here.   I've had three days in a row with clear skies and a high in the 75-79 range.   The wind was still pretty nasty at times when I was out riding Sun/Mon.   On my run around noon today it was already about 78 and interesting to see what that did to my heart rate.

Pretty similar weather here but since I work outside I think it bothers me a little less.  The temp. chance are retarded but really don't bother me once it's a little warm outside.  The winter time though, the temp. changes SUCK!

I also don't like the wind but in northern Indiana you kind of get used to it i guess.  I look at it as more challenging and better race preparation.............sometimes.

I agree with you.  You sort of have to mind trick yourself into thinking the wind isn't there.  Just relax and accept it.  This week is actually looking nice though.  So far two days close to 70 degrees.  It's going to be windy all week, but at least it's warm out.

We did our first OWS yesterday.  It was great, water wasn't too cold at all.  I am so much happier swimming outside after being in the pool for the last five months!

Just bought a Hed H3 front, H3D rear.  Not power tap friendly....but then again, I will probably get a power tap in the future, maybe next year.  Keep me posted on how you like yours.

Not sure about next year...but I think in 2-3 years you'll see the price of other power meters drop.  The SRM and Quarq crank based meters are out of most people's price range, but just like HRM's...eventually new competition will force them to come down to a reasonable price point for the average joe.

Hi.  I'm looking for some feedback.  My racing plan is below.   Is this too much?  Should I skip the 7/18 Oly?

6/20:  Oly - already registered.  "C" race
7/18:  Oly - considering this as another "C" race
8/22:  Oly - did this one last year and definitely want to see relative performace.  "B" race
9/19:  HIM lite (2 km swim, 70 km bike, 20 km run).  "A" race

If I were you...and my interpretation of a "C" race is the same as yours...than I think that's a great schedule.

To me a "C" race means that you do not adjust your training too much for the race.  You taper for one full day, then race at an effort where you can still resume normal training in a couple days.  Essentially, the race becomes a long organized brick where you get to practice transitions and your full contact swimming.

The only thing I am unsure about is the timing of your B race and your A race.  I haven't done a HIM lite, so if that's your A race, I'm not sure if 4 weeks out you should be doing a B race Oly.  But my instinct says it's okay.
