Baby Boy Blackledge, Mini Manatee!

It just has a ring to it.

I'm slaughtered ... been in bed nearly all day except up to feed/water dog and kitties. Feels like dengue did but without such a high fever.

Dog and cats are doing fine. Cats hiss and spit at dog, dog barks and whines and tries wagging tail at cats (what?? you don't LIKE ME? Everybody likes me!)

Cats are considered an appropriate housewarming gift, and one of them is a calico, which is as rare and pretty here as it is in the U.S., and are considered especially good luck.

I dunno about that, mine just seem to eat, poop, and stink (and make noise, and destroy my kitchen).

They are very cute cats, with full tails, which is a rarity here. A genetic mutation that turned out to be dominant means most kitties here are bobtailed.

Weekend training? Racing (no, don't think so--was Bucktown this weekend)?

I'm SICK. First time in three days I've been up more than half an hour. Sometimes I wonder if it's all in my head, then I try taking the dog past the gate for a walk, and I'm like, nope ... not in my head.

Has put a nice wrench in the training works. Tour de Bintan is looking less likely by the minute. I've been back and forth on it for ages anyway.

I always feel like a wuss when I'm sick, though, like if I just bucked up and went forth, I'd be fine. Hah! (That's worked out REALLY WELL when I've done it).

I started feeling sick in the middle of last week but convinced myself it was all in my head and pushed through.  Turns out that it was all in my head, mostly my sinuses but a little in my throat too.  I got through our garage sale and I'm better now.  All your rest will make you well much faster than me and maybe you'll find it's all in your head too

I totally forgot about the run I'd planned for yesterday.  I meant to go out after hubs finished mowing the grass but I walked by the garden and realized that if I didn't start harvesting I was going to be throwing out a lot of vegetables.  Then once you start pulling them you have to get them washed and if you've got a lot (which I did/do) you have to put them up right away to retain freshness.  By the time I finished picking, washing, blanching, chopping, prepping and bagging it was dark outside.  I really need a treadmill.

So now I need to go out and do the run that I missed but because I didn't do it when I was supposed to now I have to push the little dude.

Bucktown is this Sunday Yanti.

Sorry to hear you two have been sick. Hope you're back to 100% soon.

Looking forward to the Bucktown report. I'm sure you're looking forward to the experience.

Happy Monday!!

Hope everyone is on the way to being well this week.

The weather finally cooled off a bit here, so I'm ready to get back to running.  I think.

Oh man--don't kill me--but I was laughing about the veggies--it was like I was seeing an "I Love Lucy" episode in fast-forward.

In any case, super job on getting the veggies done. I think you should log it, no joke. There's a reason women in the olden days weren't fat ... that's some hard work.

I'm actually sick pretty frequently--by the time I acknowledge it, it's never in my head. I'm the idiot who nearly dies because I'm puking up pints of blood saying "It's just a stomachache!"

If I don't want to eat Pop Tarts, it's getting close to ambulance time. Anyhow. I did pull myself together, showered, went out for my usual Monday night meeting friends for dinner n coffee ...

and had to pull into the ER/urgent care on the way, where they took one look at me and promptly put me on a gurney and started an IV.

The good news is I am on the upswing; the bad news is I'm on the tail end of what was a bad infection--the blood counts didn't look too good (even after hydration) and I was dehydrated.

I  <3  fresh veggies.  I wish the hubbs and kidlet did as well.

Managed to get a short run in last night and short ride this morning before work.  It was way chilly out this morning.  Not sure I'm ready for it yet.  I love summer!

I would like to know what temperature is considered "way chilly" in Arkansas.  Is it closer to Florida's "way chilly" of 60° or Chicago's "way chilly" of -5°?

Carla, great to see you posting again and way to go, getting out there on a chilly morning!

I don't know if you or anyone else lived in AK or TN back then ... but I drove across both states in the Great Storm of '96. Whiteout conditions and well below zero.

So ... no further news than I have an acute infection, which we all already knew. Still running some high temps today, but better. Slowly better. Got out for a nearly 1/2 hour ride, didn't feel so bad, but an awful lot of pain in the joints. Not dead tired afterwards, just really tired.

My temperature scale goes as follows:

+100 = hot (but I'll never complain)
85 - 99 = warmish (love it)
70 - 84 = tolerable for spring or fall
69 and below - cold (and cold hurts me)

Judging by above scale, I need to move back to Florida.

Yesterday morning was about 52 when I started out.  I had on riding shorts and a long sleeve jersey, and was cold the whole time.  I don't where socks when I ride, so my feet were cool, too.

I'm with you as far as workouts.  If it's not in the 50's I really don't want to go out.  However, I don't consider it to actually be truly cold until we drop below freezing.  I may not run outside if it's 35° but I will run to the store in my running shorts and a sweatshirt on the way to the gym's treadmill.

I did a marathon this March, so all of my training was last winter.  For some reason, I actually enjoyed running in the cold.  I have never liked anything about cold, but it was so quiet and tranquil out on the long runs on Saturday mornings.  We had weeks of 30 degree mornings.  I still have no clue why I actually enjoyed those runs.

Gosh, I almost made myself want to run the marathon again next year.

On the bicycle...nothing under 48 degrees!

Yeah--there with you regarding the cold. Of course, the only time it ever got cold in L.A., meaning high '30s, would be like in the dead of night in the dead of winter, and even I wouldn't be running then.

I think my L.A. scale was similar to Carla's. Now my scale is like, if it's low '80s and there's wind, I'm wearing long sleeves.

Great find Q!

I am "racing" this weekend.  Doing a 5K at disney world.  It's a costume-friend race, and since I am so friggin slow I am going as a turtle.  Got a shell and mask from Target -- A dog costume, but WTH! -- and will pin it to my shirt.  I am seriously afraid I will get icked up by the sweeper ruck -- they have a 16 min mile cutoff.  We shall see...

TURTLES ROCK

I have a turtle tattoo.

There's actually a running team here on BT called the Super Turtles ... we must revive and you ought to join!

You will be fine. Should any sweeper truck appear, allow it to be motivation.

1. Look! I have my own escort! Cool!

2. They're just driving like that to check out my fiiiiine pace booty.

3. Poor things, they're lost. I need to lead them to the finish line!

Not that I have any kind of experience with this sort of thing .

Q--- It's all YOU now at the Chicago Marathon!! Read this:

Ryan Hall Withdraws from the Chicago Marathon
Hall, the Olympic Marathon Trials champion with a personal best of 2:06:17, had begun his training cycle for October 10's Bank of America 2009 ING NYC MarathonChicago Marathon with the professed goal of breaking Khalid Khannouchi's American record of 2:05:38. But his September 19 performance at the ING Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon was a disappointing one and he's told the "Chicago Tribune" that he won't be racing on October 10. "It has been a rough last couple months for me," Hall acknowledged  "I've invested everything in my training, and sometimes things do not turn out the way you had envisioned." He confessed "my workouts haven't been good. I'm very much a guy that when I show up at the starting line, I believe everything is possible, and I go after things with my whole heart, so if I'm not ready to go, I'm not going to show up and have a performance that doesn't reflect that."
