Anybody trying to fit some strength training in with the plan? I have not been doing much at all. I didn't do a whole lot before but maybe just two days about 40 min each day. I am just trying to focus on getting all the swim/bike/run stuff in but feel a little guilty or like I'm going to get injured because I'm not keeping my core strong or something. I'm not really sure, just feel like I'm missing something.

I prob get 45min/wk in usually over 3 days.  It is mostly core/hip stuff but i do some pushups and pullups.  You're definitely more likely to get injured going too hard in the weight room...that was the only injury I've had so far during training.

I am.  I'm taking 3 showers a day since it's one in the morning, 1 after lunch workout, and 1 after afternoon workout.

In all honesty, I have no problem reusing workout clothes.  I always make sure I hang them once I get home though.

akrenik - 2011-02-17 6:06 PM

Anyone else sick of taking showers?  haha    I feel like I am constantly having to shower and wash sweaty clothes. haha.

Next week is the highest volume week of the whole plan.  If I can get through that then I am on my way!  yay!

Started training for th 1/2 IM in Orlando, on week number 8, recovery week, thank god!   Feeling good so far, this is my first 1/2 IM, using it for training for a full IM in October, am nervous but excited about the road ahead.  Full IM is a life goal for me.

And so ends week 16 (I had been posting weeks into it but I guess most post weeks left). It was a really good week with a very noticeable increase in strength and stamina. It seems like even with 15 weeks left time is starting to accelerate and the weeks are starting to fly by.

Your training looks great! Never a day off even! Great job! (Yes, I guess I really like exclamation points ).

I think I have been posting weeks into it. I just finished my 3rd week anyway. I got excited for some spring like weather and did a couple too many sessions with harder intensity workouts. No injuries but I was sore and fatigued. I need to follow the plan a little better next week.

I really can't seem to get it right.  Have had such a bad month...today, finally feeling good and ready to go for a long run I turned my ankle over a tree root .75 mi in to 12 planned and am at home icing and elevating it.  I really hope I can hammer my training next week.  This has been so infuriating!

What the heck?! I am so sorry that this has been a rough month!

Shoot.  I didn't read the training log right.  I thought it was a 30 min bike today mixed in with two 25 min runs so I didn't go out early.  I figured I would do it later on the trainer.  Now I see it was supposed to be a 2 hour ride.  Darn it, now I'm not going to get it in.  Guess I will have to replace tomorrow's swim with a bike.  Hope the rain stays away.

I had trouble like you are experiencing in the fall. November I had the flu, then a cold then I started to feel better and in December I turned my ankle too.  I was just running along on a neighborhood road I always run on and all the sudden I'm on the ground.  I wore an ankle compression wrap after I iced and that really helped a lot. You can pick one up at a local drugstore for 10 or 15 bucks.
Concentrate on the positive like your totally AWESOME 1/2 marathon!

Great suggestion! I just happened to have one lying around so just threw it on...really didn't think of it so thank you!

I do need to focus on positive.  It becomes tough because exercise really is what makes me feel good and my mind healthy at all.  I am thrilled about that HM and I know it is so stupid but i just want everything to go perfect so I can keep exercising!  Hoping its better tomorrow!

Without sounding like a total idiot....could somebody just confirm my translation / help me out with this swim. It's Monday of week 16.

WU: 250 alternating each 50 swim and kick.
MAIN: 400, 4 x 100, 300, 3 x 100, 200, 2 x 100. - Long intervals are RPE 4, 100's are RPE 7-8 <-- So a total of 1,800?
(alternate, remove first 400) <---- eh? Remove? from what?
CD: 3 x 75, each slower than last.

Thanks, I know it's probably obvious, but I want to double check.

Yes, a total of 1800.  If you are looking for something shorter, an alternate workout could just be to start with the 4x100, removing it from the workout.

No problem! This is the great thing about triathlon. If one thing hurts you can focus on something else. Last winter I had a sore shoulder, aching knees, ankle pain and hot spots on my feet. I was like Now what! I can't swim bike or run! I started pool jogging. There is always something else. Don't get in a hurry with the ankle. You will be better off giving it time to heal.

Well since I'm still anonymous here...  I had a nasty spill today on the bike.  I was going slow on the bike route today when i clipped the chicken fence with the intersecting spokes on the top.  It left two big gashes on me, one on the neck and one on the chin.  Paramedics had to be called.  I had a tota of 17 stitches (10+7).  I'm probably gonna pass on the Desert  Triathlon International (3/6) and concentrate on the HIM on 4/17.  It was a sucky day but it's a good thing it didn't bled to much and there's no pain whatsoever.  I'll see how it feels in 3 days then I'll see if I can train.  I've been training for it since November (20 week plan) but safety is my utmost priority.

Yes, I am stubborn but I won't hit the water in 2 weeks but I will definitely hit the road (walk/jog) and the trainer (spinning) for sure.

My first question to the paramedic was, "When can I start training again?"  It was welcomed by a good chuckle and the statement, "You triathletes are a different breed."

Ugh I'm sorry to hear it ark but glad you are ok.  Be patient and you will definitely be better off.  That sounds like a spill though and you'll come out of it...happy you're ok!

miyutris - 2011-02-17 5:26 PM I just wrapped up the 16 week oly training plan to build up a base. I am starting the 20 week begin 1/2 iron plan on Monday. It's going to be a little strange because my volume is actually going to go down a little at first. I am training for Ironman Muncie in July.

Welcome! It's good that your volume will go down at first. It will give your body time to recover a bit before you build up the volume again.
