Some of you may have seen this from Runner's World about creating a mantra. Here's some of their suggestions to create your own. I also put the link to the full article at the bottom for your perusal.

I like Be Light, Be Bold!!!

Of course, it all pretty much comes down to Piglet. Burger. Piglet. Burger. by the end of a long race.

I say whatever works!

I have yet to establish a mantra for myself.

I have thought about it a lot though. It was interesting to read Shalane Flanagan's "cold execution." I would like to think that mine would be the exact opposite of that. Something more along the lines of Usain Bolt...Smile For God's sake if you aren't having fun out there, what is the point.

SLUUUUUURP

Adrienne and I are having food wars by inspire. I'm losing. I told her about two bowls of Grape nuts with chocolate milk I ate ... then I tried to go to sleep, but I'm still thinking about eating more Grape Nuts and I might have to cave in.

That's more of what I was thinking ... those little half-jars (what used to be considered a regular size PB jar) are good too.

BTW, it is really all your fault that I am still up. And NOW I want PB as well as another bowl of Grape Nuts.

Grrrrmph grumph garble garble ... at least I'm putting it to good use and actually trying to put my bike into the new fit specs.

I eyeballed it for the HIM. I hadn't ridden my road bike since ... since ... well, it's been a few months.

What's amazing is how close I got. I'm thinking, why did I have a 9-hour fitting if I can eyeball it to within millimeters and degrees? Oh ... because those mm and degrees start making a BIG difference when the miles really pile up. And I imagine, during that horrible black hole stretch on the bike everyone seems to go through during an IM.

Me too! I think we both commented on it.

There's been talk of "gravity storms" in the daily training thread in the main forum ... you know ... nothing to do but surrender to it and lie down and nap.

Well, we did just have significant nap repartee in here, we just didn't say "gravity storm." If you think about it ... a long run is a serious gravity storm right there!

Ohhh yeah, I'll bet. I have no IM experience so, but I imagine this black hole stretch would be something similar to that double-century-ish-thing I did last summer. I think seeing someone else get literally run over helped give my crotch pain some perspective.

they happen frequently...and require immediate action. It's like I'm an
EMT .... of vino. I have such a clear picture of you on the treadmill with a big ol' snack tray full of goodies. I don't even know how you eat and run at the same time??!!  I would be wearing all of the food down my front. And the treadmill would be a mucky mess. Talent! You have talent! BTW-next grocery trip, I am definitely buying chocolate milk and grapenuts....and maybe pop tarts.

I remember that now. Yikes.

Admittedly, I got a hell of a lot more in 9 hours than just a bike fitting. I got comprehensive cycle (and a fair bit of tri) and personal training from one of the best in the world. I should probably put all that analysis and work he put into me to good use sometime.

HA! YOU are amazing.  Also, you are making me want to have a wine emergency on the treadmill. I guess it can't really be categorized as an emergency if I plan ahead but shoot, If I can drink wine and run, I can certainly choke down whatever they have on the course.

I have seen some truly unbelievable alcohol feats pulled off by Hashers. Seriously, they show up plastered, drink for on-course 'hydration,' and then after the run is when the real drinking STARTS. And some of them are FAST.

The Hash House Harriers: a drinking club with a running problem!

http://www.gthhh.com/

They have cycling hash clubs, too, though they're less common. But the Hash runners are worldwide. Really awesome, I have to say. Get whole families and people who'd never get off the couch walking and running.

I bet there are at least two Hash runs a week in Seattle.

Side note, speaking of mm and USA...I am calculating square millimeters into square feet and getting one number and then putting that into a different equation to get square meters for something else. I hate the imperial system.

Hey all! Nice to see some totals; I'll put mine on here momentarily. I was kinda off the radar a bit due to a nasty effect of taking too many Naproxens---I know, stupid me!---In my defense, they are the only thing that really touch my headaches (which are WAY too common!)...anyway, I got pretty dang sick on Sunday, and have been recovering since--today was the first day I actually felt semi-normal. Now, to be honest, I am kinda happy to see that I lost five pounds, but it really wasn't worth the whole not being able to eat for a few days...I really do love my food, after all. Also, I found out last Thursday that I was being called in to be a "witness" during a disciplinary hearing for a coworker on Monday...SOoooo, its been a stressful, sickly week so far...and now Clint thinks he's coming down with something. Frown

I did get back to my training today, so at least that's something.

Here's my stats..

Bike:8h 29m 42s  - 123.68 Mi
Run:6h 00m 07s  - 28.76 Mi
Swim:3h 37m  - 6371.6 M

Not bad, that is a new record amount of biking and running for me in one month, but my swim was less than December...it'll do for now.

Rough day yesterday led to lack of training, going for a swim and a run after work...

And in honor of Yanti I've been buying pop-tarts as snacks this week at work, haven't tried the chocolate sunday type yet, I think that's on tap for today
