Do intervals too .. that will really boost your endurance on that thing! That's a fine distance to start with until you get used to it. That is about my pace when I go for the 6000m+ workouts. Nice and steady ....  I got your birthday wish .. you called me a jerk!  I only had like 10 min before needed to get back to work. So 1500 seemed good. But I can feel it, just the same. Even when I used mostly legs, my back and arms are out of shape that they still got some work. Those are my problem areas, so this will be good.
