Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Closed I don't think I will make the 24/31 challenge unless I can start biking/running next week as planned. I will all depend on how the hip, IT band, and inside of the leg feels. Yes I'm falling apart but none is serious but after being out for 5 months I am being over cautious and not risking anything. Not sure what is going on mentally with my swim but I'm starting to feel panic again about the swim in Septembers upcoming race. So much so that I am considering not doing the oly in November. I am back to the pool 4-5 times a week but it's not helping much. My warm ups are now a full 400 but for some crazy reason I'm scared as hell. Maybe it's just something that will pass in the next week or so. I guess I will just keep getting in the water and see what happens. My dreams of an IM may be slipping away from me Lets hope this is just a slump. I'm at a dead end and don't know how to get over this. Time to Google "how to cure aquaphobia" |

Had to go to Austin to drink it: Other big news. Tri buddy and wife want me to do Austin 70.3 in late October (wife wants me out of the house). Just not sure I am feeling up to it. I am still enjoying crossfit and worried a little about injury with ramping up running. Basically I have 2.5 months. I have been doing a fair amount if crossfit and feel pretty strong. I have been doing faster pace low mileage. I intermittently bike 20-35 miles. So, should I do it? |

Tomorrow I have a 70.3 swim leg for a relay - I should have trained more. Then next weekend my Xterra. Yikes. I should probably try and go for a run now. |

It wasnt fast, and I wanted to quit half-way through (good thing I still had to run home) But I stuck with it and finished pretty strong with the last three Clicks being by far my fastests. It always amazes me how you can utterly loathe the thought of a run/bike/swim prior too it, and even well into the workout itself, but always by the end of it you are flying high and loving life! Endorphins rock! Back at work here thinking about my goals for next week....for me it always comes back to food, I havent been logging yet, I always eat more than I should of absolute food..... What can I do folks????? Help! |

Log everything including condiments. Don't skip one meal of logging because you think you have plenty of calories left. Get into the habit and make it part of your meal time. Work it and it will pay off. I remember in the winter BDAS we had a challenge for the first to break 220. Well that was 51 pounds ago and it is all because I log my a$$ off. You CAN do this. Extreme Veteran 1648 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Closed Well this should be a good week for me. I'm going to say Swim X3 (I have 2 races - so 2 will happen) Run X3 Bike X3 If I do doubles does it count as two (Yesterday I did swim and bike)? Also, I have to say I'm feeling training does no good to my swimming. Last year I swam 2-3X/ week. This year I swam 0.7-1x/ week and spent a week drinking at Sea Level prior to the 70.3 relay. I added 45 seconds to my time- really shows a poor return on investment on swim training ;-) I am now freaking out about my Xterra next week and at the same time thinking of signing up for another race in Sept... |

Alex...you are inspirational buddy....should I expect the shakes and hallucination as I try to go cold turkey on this? If I can do it, you can do it. For your viewing pleasure, I present: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/running.. I am, and always will be, a fat guy. Forever. Period. I will always be the Blerch. At 183 lbs, with a BMI of 24 and 16% body fat, I still am, deep down, the fat guy who eats a 24oz porterhouse and three beers and potatoes and then still demolishes dessert. I'm the guy who freebases guacamole and orders the biggest burrito on the menu, and then orders a tamale and an enchilada to go with it. I love food - I love everything about it - I love to eat it, I love to buy it, I love to cook it . . . I've lost 115lbs, down from 296lbs in May 2010. I bought a pair of jean shorts a month ago, and the waist size is 30". I have multiple T-shirts in size small. I look at all the achievements in my life - college, law school, the bar exam, my career . . .and they all pale in comparison to that number thirty printed on the leather label on my waistband. It's a battle, every single day. Alcoholics can stop drinking; drug users can stop doing drugs, but fat guys - I have to eat every day. Abstinence is not an option - only control. It's a daily battle - on myfitnesspal, it counts the number of days you continuously log in - and I just ticked over 360. I've been using it for three years, but for the last 360, I've logged in every day. Some days, I've won the battle. Some days, I lose horribly, and others fall in the middle. Plato said, "the first and best victory is to conquer self." Find your motivation - what makes you go, and what feeds the control. My motivation comes from many things. I like having a resting heart rate of 45. I like going shopping and not finding clothes because the sizes are all too big, instead of too small. I like knowing that, when I roll into work at 9am, I've already done more than everyone else in my office. I like the idle fantasy of qualifying for Kona, or the lucky fantasy of getting a lottery slot, or qualifying for Boston. I like think about 6-pack abs with a "when," not an "if." I like the thought of getting a brick at Savageman, or breaking 300 FTP watts on Trainer Road, or climbing that cat 3 hill at Devil's Head in Wisconsin Dells without putting a foot down. I look forward to the day when I can take my turn pulling for the peloton, wearing team kit, and earning my place at the table. I like the thought of getting my cat 5 cycling license. The bottom line is that the candy bar in the vending machine downstairs is not going to get me to those goals, and the only person standing in my way is that fat guy who I was, who I am, and who I always will be. The first and best victory is to conquer self. |

Good foods, and foods to stay away from. knowledge is power. Thanks guys, I do have to log, and I do need to research more. I do think that I may have a legitimate addiction to crappy foods though.... It's going to be a lifelong battle...and it needs to be... Very well said Charles! very well said! |
