Shocker...Sunil wanted him before....

Klinsmann was great with an attacking flair when he had the German National team....unfortunately he wont have the same tools in attack with the USMNT and the main problem is defending..not his forte....

Should be interesting..could be a bloodbath!

They didn't get him before because they didn't give him enough control.  I would be he has that control now.  I agree it should be interesting.  I also agree it could be ugly.  Only time will tell.

So there is a Football talk show on Siruis....most callers were NOT in favor of the sacking. The continued debate is the quality and pipeline of players coming through. As we are all aware, Soccer in the US is a middle class sport for the most part..and pretty expensive when you get into the whole Competitive club scene. There is not enough pipeline from the lower economic layers especially the hispanic community in my opinion.
I don't think this is just a US problem though....the UK is not producing those players from tough backgrounds either and I would argue the demise of the flair in the Brazilian national team has some ties to the growth of their economy and increase in wealth of their lower/middle class.

Soccer as a way out for these social layers has become less attractive...or has become less motivational...they have options

Its the old nature vs nurture argument - in the US we "manufacture" players with systemic coaching and leagues etc...a process...from an early age they are coached...and the flair and individuality is stifled.

Patience and development are replaced with a need for results..even at the 9 yo level..and I think this leads to a thin pipeline of genuinely natural talented players

I couldn't put it better myself.

Now, I do know that many MLS clubs are working hard to do their part to off set the $ part of the equation above.  At least as much as they can.  Which is more than was going on before MLS was present.  They are building developmental leagues and relationships with clubs, etc.  And are footing the bill to try to bring that cost down so that it CAN introduce lower socio-economic individuals into the mix.

Long story short, there is NO quick and easy fix.  It is a LONG term solution that will take quite a while to overcome, if we can.

Does that station have a podcast?

these guys are good...and a good podcast

http://www.worldfootballdaily.com/

Don't think the one on sirius does....link below

http://www.siriusxm.com/soccer

One comment...even if the MLS players have an academy etc....from my understanding there is considerable travel to get to the try outs or even be in the program...and then substantial cost to the travel etc...much is outside any discretionary income of the target segment....chicken and egg I think..

Yeah.  I know it is not perfect.  Far from it.  But it is better than absolutely nothing, which is what it was not too long ago.

Thanks for those links.  Gonna have to check em out!

Appears to be a big fight brewing between the EPL and media.  Might interrupt opening weekend.  Ugh.

Guess they won't have to worry about the media problem.  Looks like the thugs are doing a good job of cancelling matches in London.  Sad.  So terribly, terribly sad.

Symptom of society in general in the UK and even over here at times...people are given things and pumped full of propaganda that they are being held back by the "haves" and that they have the "right" to the same things that those folks have....even though they didnt work for them or ,in a lot of cases in England, even try to work for them....

Much easier to just steal and scream "its not fair" than to get off your backside and actually try to better yourself...

Not really a Football related rant...but can't help myself Smile

Football related..wtf is Arsene up to?...Sell Fabregas and Nasri..they don't want to be there..then go spend $40 of that $50/60M on replacing them....juvenile decision making for a manager

What's worse is that it is now spreading to other cities in the UK.  Liverpool.  Manchester.

These gits are going to have the entire opening weekend cancelled if they aren't careful.

Just disgusts me.

Tottenham v Everton cancelled.

On another note, watched Klinsman's debut last night.  Tale of 2 halves and 2 teams.

First half, Mexico dominated posession and we were on our back heels.  Lucky to only be down 1-0 off of a phenomenal goal by Mexico.  Really.  It was unreal.

Second half, we were playing with a different squad against a different squad.  It allows us to open up quite a bit more.  Moved Torres into the middle, where he belongs, and Aguadelo, Shea and Rodgers really introduced some pace and life into the front.  Granted, Mexico subbed out quite a bit of their offensive threat so we were able to do that, but still, it is a confidence builder for these kids.

I wasn't quite as positive as Klinsy was at half time, but I like his enthusiasm and energy.  Only one game.  Only a friendly.  Long way to go and many many more matches to be played.  With holding judgement for now.

With the stronger squads in the first half...US was out matched. Lack of creativity in the central midfield slots ( I hate CM's who only play backwards and sideways and cannot beat a player) - poorly aligned - Donovan on the outside, Torres etc....still have problems at the back in the center too....second half..some better play and pace.

Still think strength on strength in a meaningful game that Mexico is getting better ( at all levels U17-U20 WC's are evidence of that) and stronger in the world game....what are they doing at the youth level that is helping this i wonder?

Agreed and they didn't have Chicharito or deSantos available, who are arguabley their best players.

Based on the interviews with Klinsy, sounds as if he ultimately wants to try to replicate whatever they are doing at their youth level.  He recognizes that it is going to take a long time, and I wonder if he also recognizes that the payoff might be after his tenure.

Surely Arse vs Udinese is more of a drama than the Carling cup?

What a mess they are in....losing players - cant sign any - injuries, players getting sent off... an early exit could cost them 20M...

I feel sorry for Wenger, the immediate gratification crowd are baying for his dismissal...yet in the long run at least their club will be solvent...Chelsea/ Man City/ Man U and you lot to some degree are not far from financial ruin...as we've talked about in the past...the spending is unsustainable as a business unless you have an 'angel" owner..and once they get tired of their EPL toy its goodnight and goodbye to the good times..

Man City look like the real deal..and should be with the $$ they spent...still think its Man U to beat...

LOL!

Oh, don't I know it about the $, or I guess, in this case it is £.  And whatever happened to the Fair Play/Pay rule that was supposed to be enacted?  Or has it been?

I will say it is interesting how Man City has really strengthened, especially with Nasri now.  They do, indeed, look like the team to beat along with ManUre.

We have made some very interesting additions and changes ourselves.  Chelsea, though, just continues to look old.  Should be interesting to see what happens at the half way point if they are not doing well.  Villa-Boas has done it in the past and has no qualms weeding out older players in favor of a long term goal and younger players.  Drogba, Terry, Lampard are all potentially on the chopping block if they don't perform.

And while it is probably more dramatic (personally, I would love to see Arsenal bounced out early), I think today, I prefer the Carling Cup.

And Arsenal is down 1-0 at half with the aggregate now set at 1-1.  Leave it to them to make it harder on themselves.

LOL at West Ham....Aldershot!....will have to give my mate who supports Wham! as I call them - a rash of grief!

Should see some action in the transfer market now the CL is set...

Where have all the playmakers gone?...no one seems to have that creative guy....

Now it is getting down right silly this week on all front.

Bellamy back to 'Pool.  I don't know if I want him.

Nasri now at City and lashing out at Arsenal.

Modric to stay at Spurs.

Fergie blasting the FA claiming it treats his little darlings like s**t.  Want some cheese with that Whine?

Roma and Sevilla bounced out of Europa.

Spain back to playing after the end of the strike.

Goodness, it has been busy, and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

Vettel was amazing, Schumi drove like somebody from another world, Hamilton seems to have his time of the month, and Massa was busy doing other things with Alonso.

The track surely allows drivers for quick race, a rare feat for frites eating Belgian.

Red Bull would dominate this year, McLaren should prove they belong on the podium, while Ferrari is on holiday.
