aspeelma - 2009-12-21 4:08 AM Good morning Ghoulies!!!!

I hope all is well! Do you have your Christmas shopping done? Presents wrapped? Cookies made?

Have a slam dunk day in the village!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Tom, welcome back!!!

Hi Ann! Our shopping is almost all done, but we haven't wrapped anything yet. I'll be starting on that tonight.

My wife laughed when our daughter told her that I was planning on baking cookies. I think I can manage though

***Trying to not burn cookies toppage!***

We baked some yesterday while we were waiting for the driveway to get plowed. I need to make some more tonight when I get home, sometime after 7, to bring to work tomorrow.
I have nothing wrapped and I'm not sure when I'm going to do it. Other people's gifts will be easy, wrapping the gifts for the kiddos will be the hard part. I get up at 4:15 every morning but I may have to wrap theirs after they go to bed. I don't forecast a lot of sleep this week.

I agree - wrapping for the kids is the toughest. For us, we usually just wrap their gifts in our room after they're in bed. Unfortunately last year we made the mistake of wrapping everything in one night. I will NOT do that again, so I will be starting the wrapping tonight.

Now I just need to figure out a way to keep the cats away from the gifts so they don't claw anything open accidentally. Any ideas, cat owners?
No ideas for the cats, Tom, but I can relate to the one-night wrap job. It seems like every year the hubby and I, depsite our best intentions, have not wrapped a single gift for the kids before Christmas Eve. Let's just say that I have rung in Christmas with a live broadcast of the pope saying Christmas mass from the vatican more than once. (hey it's Christmas---and there's not much else on TV that time of night. er, morning.

Hey Amy. I'm REALLY hoping to avoid that again this year, but we'll see what happens. I may just go buy some industrial size socks and stuff those with all the gifts. It would be way easier than all those paper-cuts and stray tape.

aspeelma - 2009-12-22 3:04 AM Good morning Ghoulies!!!!

I ran on the treadmill last night, but I did not get my 10 miles in. I did a 10k, 6.22 miles. I have not been feeling great the past 2 weeks so I haven't really been eating and I could feel it last night, no fuel for the run. I made myself eat dinner last night when I got home. Then I baked a little over 13 dozen cookies. I needed cookies to bring to work, then my husband said "oh yeah, can you make me some for work, too"? Then the kids said "but we need cookies here for here". So we baked and baked and baked. I left a huge mess in the kitchen because by the time I was done taking cookies out of the oven I was just too tired to clean up the mess.

Tonight my husband is taking the kids out shopping so I hope to get their gifts wrapped while they are gone.

Have a great day Ghoulies! Play nice!!!

Sorry you're not feeling well Ann. I can relate. I always seem to come down with something around this time of year. I hope you're feeling better soon and that your appetite comes back so you can fuel properly! At least your cookie baking is (hopefully) done, right?

That's a good plan. I'd like to get started tonight, with some egg nog and Christmas music to keep me cheerful. Any favorite Christmas albums I may not have heard of???

I almost forgot... I came up with something about a week or two ago and I wanted to share it with the Village. I was sipping a cup of Egg Nog and thinking about how awesome it was. Then I was thinking about how good French Toast is and I thought how great it would be to combine them. All I can say is holy cow - that was a good idea! So in the spirit of sharing, here's my recipe for Holiday French Toast:

-1 quart of Egg Nog
-3 Eggs
-1-2 loafs of French Bread

-Pour the egg nog into a large mixing bowl
-Separate the eggs - yolks go into the egg nog, whites go into a separate mixing bowl
-Use a beater to get the egg whites nice and thick. When they're done use a spatula to pour them into the egg nog and mix well.
-Cut the french bread into 1-1.5 inch slices, dip 'em, and fry 'em in a pan.

Using a whole pint of egg nog will be WAY more than enough for a family of four, so if you want to just use 2 cups of egg nog I'd just use 2 eggs (although I haven't tested this). I served these with syrup, whipped cream, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. So good... Enjoy!

I like that idea. My wife actually has a Rhapsody subscription so we'll probably just use that (which is great because if something sucks it's not like we pay per song).

wgraves7582 - 2009-12-22 1:26 PM Christmas music is cheesy, right? And Neil Diamond is totally shameless. So it stands to reason that a Neil Diamond Christmas album would be like a drunken Vegas soirée catered by the Melting Pot. It’s true that Diamond’s gut-busting style sometimes misfires—“The Christmas Song,” for instance, has a backing track that sounds stripped from a karaoke machine. But more often, it’s pretty juicy holiday ham: See the guttural “Later on—ach!—we’ll conspire” and the totally hammy chorus-girls ending of “Winter Wonderland.” Or the opening track, “Cherry Cherry Christmas,” which we know Diamond wrote because it mentions about 57 of his earlier songs: "Let's raise a Christmas toast of red, red wine / We'll even sing 'Sweet Caroline' / While the whole world sings along.” And Diamond really does save the best for last: “The Chanukah Song.” That’s right, the Adam Sandler one. As in, “Paul Newman's half Jewish, Goldie Hawn's half too / Put them together, what a fine-lookin' Jew.” There’s even a session-dude cock-rockin’ a guitar solo. It is—there’s no other word for it—totally festive.

Here is a review I found for it online!  If I find a free sound link I will post it for your torture pleasure!

Dude, this sounds amazing. I will definitely be checking this out! Train wrecks can be so fun.

This kinda reminds me of an album me and all the other band geeks just LOVED in high school. Pat Boone's (yes, that Pat Boone) In a Metal Mood - No More Mr. Nice Guy with covers of songs like Enter Sandman, Crazy Train, Smoke on the Water, and Holy Diver to name a few. Good stuff.
