ceilidh - 2010-09-20 9:19 AM It is a beautiful day. I feel okay for a change. I would like to have the day off (with pay, of course).

Glad you feel okay!

Me too! I hate to waste it going to a haz waste site this afternoon.

I do believe that it is best to visit haz waste sites on less than beautiful days. I think you get better reports/results. I'm just sayin'. I could email your boss if you'd like.

Except I am meeting my boss there.

I could go flatten his tires and remove his distributor cap quick.

Deal! Then I can run, play in the yard and mix up a batch of margaritas. I can't do Mojitos, the mint hasn't recovered from the drought!

Margaritgas are fine with me.

After I'm done with Robin's boss's car I've got some free time. I could come help.

Hey Ann...are you planning on going farther than 20.5miles for your long runs? or just sticking to that?

I really don't know yet. I'm hoping to get 2 more long runs in of at least 20 miles. Originally I was hoping to get a 26 miler in, now I may top out at 22ish.

How about you? Your marathon is about 2 weeks before mine.

I'm not sure...I'm thinking the max I should do is 22. So a few more kms than yesterday...maybe on a flat, non-gravel course. I really started to deteriorate yesterday...the hills and gravel were probably a large contributor...but I'm not entirely sure...I def won't be getting a 26 in.

I'm doing a trail HM on Sat and a 10km on Sun this weekend. So the following weekend will be my last long run. Then TAPER TIME...

Hi all. I had a long night (or short, depending on ow you look at it). Got about 4 hours of sleep though, so I guess I am good to go until it's afternoonnap time. The wildfire is about 6-7 miles from me. We haven't been in any direct danger, but some good friends of mine live across the street from the fireline, and the pond-sized reservoir I swim in regularly is also on the fireline. Here's a link to an article my friend wrote about the fire. And yes, it really looked like the pic in the story. Scary.

I've read before that the gravel trails are to be better for you than running on the road all of the time, but I don't believe it. There is a packed gravel trail around the soccer fields where my kids play and practice. I've run it a few times and I think it's like running on sand. I think it's harder to run on the gravel.

Are you going to try and do another long run this weekend? You don't want to do it too close to your marathon, your body needs time to heal and it takes a few weeks to recover from the distances that you're running.

Thanks, Bill. It's looking a whole lot better today already. The firefighters did an amazing job saving almost all of the houses.

Last night the smoke was so thick that the moon was a nice rust color, and you couldn't see any stars. My house still smells a little like a campfire today, but the sky is blue and the air is mostly clear.

Here's a link to a local news channel, with video of the inspection-by-air of the burn area. Crazy stuff. They think they might be able to get the fire out today. *fingers crossed*

No. Not this weekend. 2 races: trail HM on Sat and 10k road on Sun. The weekend after though will be my last one...2 week taper...

I think if the road was dirt and not gravel it would be better...but our road is gravel and quite unstable to run on...not to mention the increased element of stability...I think my ankles, knees and hips are a bit angry compared to other runs due to this fact...about 1/2 of my run was on gravel.

And here I thought I was the only one who would rather run on a road than gravel for this very reason.  Melindy, I can totally understand why you were/are so sore after your run.

Yes! Magic infusion...woooo...

I'm wearing them under my leggings and skirt.

Speaking about being hot last night...I must have had some sort of post run hot flash and ended up taking off my shirt again in my sleep...random.

I'm not "sore" perse...but my legs know what they did yesterday that's for sure...if I move to awkwardly they send angry messages to me...

Also post run I think I encounter restless leg syndrome...its more comfortable to move around while lying down than to sit there...I'm pretty sure its blood flow related because it settles down about 30min after...

I used to frequently wake up wearing less clothes than I went to bed with. That's why I just don't wear them anymore.

I'll take road running anyday. Outdoor tracks aren't too bad, mostly softish and flat, but so dam boring to run on.

I even avoided running on trails for a long time for this same reason. I have changed my mind a little---one run/week is ok on trail. The rest of the time I prefer to be on asphalt.
