Rough day yesterday led to lack of training, going for a swim and a run after work...

And in honor of Yanti I've been buying pop-tarts as snacks this week at work, haven't tried the chocolate sunday type yet, I think that's on tap for today

Meh, that is the beautiful thing about training. It is ALWAYS there, waiting for you when you are ready Smile

There is a Pop tart epidemic and Yanti is at the heart of it. Must...stay...strong

For once, I did not start that thread! But you know ... Pop Tarts ARE the perfect training food. Purrrrrrfect.

And I think I need Pop Tarts now. NOW.

I also think Pop Tarts should sponsor me! I'm going to hit them up when I do my Lombok-Bali channel swim. I mean, come on ... HEINEKEN is going to sponsor me for that and I don't even drink!

There are not many beers I dislike but Heineken is one of them. Honestly, beer shouldn't come in green bottles. But I mean, you wouldn't have to twist my arm to drink it or anything...beggars can't be choosers

Hey all, i'm back after a short journey to the dark side!!!

Missed you all and sooo glad to be caught up with all the gossip and the odd mention of training.

Got back in the saddle today for the first time in too long and put in 7 miles. My butt hurts.

Running tommorrow, yippee.

Perhaps i should also be following the pop tart revolution, sounds like the healthy option compared to my kebab last night.

Heh. I think the actual frothy stuff for the event is mostly for my crew and media/others who will be waiting around very bored on the Bali side. Heineken is helping defray the event costs and giving a sum to charity as well.

Allen you ready for 6 Nations Rugby?  I can usually get a few games in the states- the wife and I want to make it over there one year during the action.

Starts on saturday with a big England Scotland crunch, late afternoon. Might have to find a bar with a big screen and some good company.

I got to see the Australia/England game when I was in Sydney in 2003. I still have no idea of the rules but any sport so centrally built around drinking, dancing and the word "scrum" is pretty cool in my book. Seems a lot more badass than American football...

Never played myself as my school played soccer as the sport of choice. It is proper scary though. They think padding is just for wimps and you cant bite your opponents ear off if he's got a helmet on. The actual game does disrupt the drinking a little and the best nights out i used to have were when our local rugby club put on their bank holiday disco. Still got a photo somewhere of my brother and four of my friends in the A and E department of our hospital after one event. They were all able to take of their eye patches about 5 days later. Happy days!

Greetings all!  I bonked this morning as I think my body is telling me to take a break.  Means I missed a planned long ride/short run brick but my next IM isn't until May so I'm not going to worry too much about it.  After all, I'm mostly in it for the fun and competing against myself.

I love your attitude!

Taking care of yourself ... and remembering the fun.

Just out of curiosity, exactly what happened? Did you get on the bike and fall over? Or were you on a trainer and your legs simply wouldn't go? Or you went for a while and then realized you didn't know your name and weren't sure why you were on a trainer?

I ran out of Blueberry poptartsYell

Actually I felt like despite working hard I just could not get my heart rate up.  Seems weird but I was pedaling at an effort consistent with long rides but my heart rate simply was not going up.  I was around 112 bpm and breaking a decent sweat.  This happens sometimes.  My resting heart rate is in low 50's.  My usual HR on trainer is in 120's.  When I bike at same perceived intensity outside I'm in the 130-140 range.  Could it be that I'm just too comfortable on my trainer?  Any thoughts?  Should I be pushing harder?  It takes a very hard effort to get my HR to 140's on the trainer.

I just signed up for an off-road HM.  It is next weekend and is held in a wetlands park.  I hiked the area today and during that 3 mile hike I counted at least 16 gators! They were on the side of the path only about 5 feet away.  A couple of them watched me very closely as I passed by -kinda creepy.  The key to this race is to make sure I am not in front and not the last   The bird life in the park was pretty amazing too, so I am really looking forward to this race.

Happy weekend all!

I'm incredibly jealous right now.  For the hike. well....the gators too....okay, also the birdlife....Not quite enough of a runner to be jealous of the HM though. Laughing

Have an awesome race!

Second 10k (ever) is tomorrow morning--I did treat myself to some new shades and some running/compression tights tonight (Honestly, I was only at the sports store to replenish my Gu supply!)--I'm almost feeling confident about the race. I ran earlier this week in some barefoot shoes (Evos)--and it felt really good--great energy, etc... so I am going to run in them tomorrow. I'm aiming for 1:10 or less. After that, I get to indulge in some BBQ wings and NACHOS!!!!! I am SO not going to feel guilty about indulging in Super Bowl nom-ming this time!!!

Excuse me? Did you say 16 gators? I must have misread...

My biggest concerns while running are-I dunno- I guess just dudes "Holla-ing" at us when we run by. Ohhhh and there was this super creepy mime this one time....

Either way, doesn't really compare to gators. You are badass.

Hm. If they give you the evil eye, stick your tongue out at them ... and point to the birds

Sounds awesome ... the hike, and the race to come!

Sounds awesome ... the hike, and the race to come!

I did try shooing one of the gators that was kind of up on his legs, facing me and very, very close to the path.  For some reason, he didn't listen to me and after a few minutes of sizing each other up, I continued past him and he started to turn away from me.

Spending most of my life in Florida, i know that there are gators in just about every fresh water body of water.  I try not to think about that as I do my open water swims in the local lakes and I really try to do all my tri events in the ocean.  Still, when you see the gators in such quantity it is pretty amazing and more then a bit freaky.  Normally, in the winter they are completely inactive and you could step right over them without disturbing them (though I wouldn't recommend it).  However, like the rest of the country, we've had a very mild winter.  In fact, it was in the 80*s as I hiked the area, so the gators were more active then they should have been.  I'm hoping for a cold front for Saturday's race :0

Love those gators!  I remember playing golf in Florida and seeing quite a few of them in the ponds or on the banks lying in the sun.  I used to windsurf there too and in the inland lakes I was always fearful of coming across one but never actually did.  Speaking of the ocean, I do remember windsurfing in the gulf in Pensacola and having hammerheads around me.  Freaky!

I would love to run that course with the gators.  Would be good incentive to keep moving.

Hammerheads are really weird looking!  I remember water skiing in the keys as a kid and the boat passing over a school of them.  Thankfully, I was in the boat and 1 of my brothers was on the skis!  I remember thinking "I sure hope he doesn't fall"   Still, I'd rather swim with sharks then gators.
