OK...I almost didn't want to post this as I read the other previous comments.  But I am pretty hyped up right now.  I didn;'t swim my 1600 full swim (actually it was a 300 warm-up, 1000 yd main set and 300 cool down) as the pool was closed for easter.  I decided to swim this afternoon prior to my son's baseball practice.  What I decided to do, given my decision to do the Olympic distance tri in June was to see where I was at with a mile swim.  So I did a TT and swam a straight 1800 in 29.04 which comes out to be a 1:37/100 yds.  This is about 7 sec. per 100 yds. (1:44/100 yds) faster than my Sprint Tri swim time last year.  The Olympic distance is about double the Sprint Distance in June so I know I can do the distance and in a pretty respectful time as I looked at some of the other times.  Not sure how it will impact my bike and rum,but we'll see.

I also found a local Sprint Tri just down the road twenty miles that takes place on Sunday, April 18th that I may compete in.  It fits well into my schedule given my son's games are on Saturday.

slow turtle - 2010-04-05 7:16 PM Funny story...
This weekend I was getting ready for 17 people to come have easter dinner at my house. I was moving a bunch of stuff around, and my daughters 30lb bike fell down on my foot. To be exact, the kickstand landed square on one of my toes. The nurse that I work with looked at it today, and declared that it's broken. Yep, same foot that is already injured. At least I feel justified in feeling like it's been throbbing and painful for the past 2 days!

Okay, it's not really a funny story. But, at this point, if I don't laugh, I might cry.

Goodness.  Sorry to hear that.  Take care of yourself!

That is awesome Brian.  You've taken some good time off your swim in the past few months.

Heidi- I'm awfully sorry to hear that in addition to an injured foot, you now have a broken toe. Unbelievable...talk about Murphy's Law.  I hope that you recover quickly!

Brian- good stuff on that swim...your consistent training is really paying off.  Can I borrow some of your aquatic discipline?

Michael- thanks for the tips on interval training.  I'll try to resist cursing you when it starts to hurt at race pace.

On a random side note:  I placed an order with Aevero recently and they sent me a size small cycling jersey as a bonus.  It does not fit me (nay, it would be downright vulgar if I tried to squeeze into it)...anyone want it?  First dibs going to Experiorites.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm sure if you send Brent at Aevero an em, he'd send out a medium to you along with a return envelope for the small...

x2.  I've heard nothing but good about their customer service.  Plus, I've got more jerseys than any decent person should own... Laughing

I see that the Mentor group for Spring has expired.  Are we going to continue through the next phase?  I'd like to.

It's been a great help to me and really appreciate all of Michael's advice, as well as everyone else's.  I'd certainly like to continue!  I didn't even realize it was over... shows you how oblivious I am.

I'm on the road until Friday... trying to get a few workouts in, but this is definitely going to be an "off" week for me.

I'd like to continue as well.  This group has really helped me stay focussed on my goals and work through the inevitable issues that come up (injuries, floods, etc...).

Thanks,

OK, everyone, I also had no idea that the Winter groups were over!  I always come here directly rather than going through the Mentor Group pages.

I'd love to keep going.  I also think it would be great to get some new 'faces'.  So here's what I propose:  I'll start another group, and when it goes live, I'll post here so you know.    Those of you who'd like to continue with this group, just re-introduce yourselves in the new group.  Those who prefer to fish in new waters, it's been great having you and best of luck!

OK, everyone, I started the new group.  We aren't officially 'live' but it looks like that doesn't mean much, so if you want to 'rejoin', please feel free.  The new group is here:

Oh, and I should have added:  You all have been awesome.  I've really enjoyed doing this mentor group thing.  I don't really consider myself to be a 'mentor', but I have loved responding to questions as best I can, and seeing others' responses.  And here's the thing that honestly I didn't expect (never having done this before):  I got a LOT of motivation from this group.  This might sound a bit weird, but there were times when thinking about the group got me through a workout.  So thanks.

I consider you a great mentor. For someone that is relatively new to this sport you brought a lot of information to the group. Your aproach to every question is extremely positive. You have the natural ability of a coach, a great one. You have a way of finding relevant information, detailed information, for every question. The way I was thinking is to give others a chance to have you as a mentor. But on second thought, for once in my life I will be a little greedy, and will fellow you.

But also, I would like to keep in touch with this group of people. We spent a hard winter together and would like to see how everyone does in their events this summer.

Michael- I'm really glad you're willing to start a new group. I'd like to follow, but tomorrow will be a rough day at work for me, and I won't get on line to check things out.  So if you go live with the new group, would you please save me a spot?

I should add that, I wasn't going to join a summer group because I'm not sure what will happen with my foot and training this year. But, since we know each other, I dont feel like a poser if I continue.
