I hate GU products. Yucky. That is all I have ever tried because I am not an endurance girl at all. You long distancers need a lot more nutrition than us sprint/oly folks.

I have been having problems with muscle fatigue and recover so I have been eating a clif bar or balance bar after every workout. It seems to be helping, I think.

I like the beans. I don't really need them for an 8 mile run, but I like them!!!

retiretotri - 2009-04-20 9:40 PM I used shot bloks (two flavors), luna moons (two flavors), bananas, Gatorade Endurance and made the mistake of using a Power Gel after they ran out of bananas.  Tried to eat a PBJ sandwich at bike special needs and it wouldn't go down.  The plan for special needs this year is something salty--pretzels, PB crackers, etc.  Hope to balance acid levels and get better results.   Used one Suceed tablet per hour and drank plenty of H20.

Gels just don't work well for me and I'm not sure why.  I have tried them all (Gu, Hammer, Carboom, Crank e-Gels, etc.).  Gels=GI issues.  Shot bloks and Sharkies are both fine.  Working on determining what to use for fluid nutrition, I know it won't be Gatorade in any shape or form.  EFS Liquid Shot and Heed are possibilities as is Luna.

Cookies will be another experiment through training, likely molasses or PB cookies from a bakery.  Sport drink on the 15/45, shot bloks, etc. at the bottom of the half hour, and real food at the top of the hour for a total of 200 calories an hour.  Water on 15/30/45/60.

The sport beans work well for running for me, they sit well and I pop three beans every 15 minutes.  I have also used luna moons for running (not as messy as shot bloks--far less gooey and smaller).  The Sharkies would probably work well too.  Gu is now making Gu Chomps but I haven't seen any yet.

Now is the time to experiment!

I sometimes get GI issues if I gel and my HR is really high.

YOu should check out the infinite website though... I think youd like it.

You took in a LOT more then I did for IM.... it seems like it anyway.  COmbos are the BEST onthe bike...just another idea

George, you crack me up!  Like Tammy said, don't respond and eventually they will go away.  Even I eventually get a clue and shut down inspires if someone isn't inspiring back.  Wink

I always respond back to an inspire and have made some great BT friends that way.  I would have hated to miss out on the opportunity to get to know people like Tammy, Mark, Steve, Laura, Suzy, and Tracy.  On the other hand, if someone is a little weird (notice I didn't say creepy) I wouldn't encourage any further banter.

I look at it this way--if they are taking the time to provide encouragement/support, I take the time to return the thought by inspiring in their blog (as long as they aren't too strange, I didn't say creepy).   You know, it is that good karma thing again!

Some groups in BT are just comfortable with their own peeps and don't want to get involved with inspiring back and forth with someone new.  Maybe this person is just trying to get to know some people on BT and establish some rapport with somebody?  Who knows.

Starting anew on Monday under the watchful eye of a coach, thanks Tammy. Will be doing resistance and aerobic cycling. Primary goal is to get the WEIGHT OFF, then really start training for an IM. I'll be 45 this year and want to do an IM and the Chicago Marathon before I'm 50.

New topic for today.  What to wear for a HIM.  I did complete clothes changes for IM WI, swim to bike and bike to run.

I know you can't do that during a HIM.  I would like something that has a little more padding than the Tyr shorts I have now.  Anyone every tried Jaggad?  They have tri shorts that you can pull the pad out of for the run.  Louis Garneau has some tri shorts with an air chamois.

Any suggestions?  Likes or dislikes?

I would never even consider changing clothes   I changed shorts for WI last year- but wont this year.  I think when you are riding harder- like you WILL be for a HIM.. you dont really put as much pressure on "that" area... you are putting more pwer to tge legs.. KWIM?

All I have tried are Zoot and Craft tri shorts... i think the Zoot actually ahs a nice soft padding

What is creeping me out is his interests. Not to go back to the creepy thing. One of them is getting back into sex. I am not responding. Let's see how it works.

It is not DJ, we all know how harmless he is.

Is this creepy kook just inspiring you or actually PM'ing you with his "getting back into sex" thing?  See I did say creepy this time!

If he is sending crap like that to you I would think that would warrant a complaint to BT.

I watched some of the London Marathon today when I was skiving from my coursework - holy sh** those folks can run!

I've never bothered with the times before because they meant nothing to me - I now know what a 7min mile feels like - the guys were doing 4:25, 4:50, 4: 30 - at the 20 mile mark!!!! Wow!

(bet they can't swim if their lives depended on it though!Wink)

Hope you all had a good weekend?

Done working and on to my next life!  I'm sleeping in until 7:30 AM tomorrow.

Spent 13 hours at work today and I still have to go back tomorrow to close out my email account and remove access to all of the super secret squirrel stuff.  Retirement ceremony is on Sunday.

Racing this weekend--the Lake Monona 20K on Saturday morning.  Lots of good runners so I will be bringing up the rear!  Great weather forecast which is nice.
