Publix/Georgia 1/2 mary on Sunday, Downtown Atlanta.
Coaches game plan:
Do NOT get caught up in the excitement the first 2 miles.
Miles 1&2: no faster than 9:30/mile
Miles 2-10: Upper Z3/lower Z4 (upper 170s)
Final 5K: Pick it up and stop looking at your watch.
When you turn onto Marietta street, gut it out.

Should be interesting.

I had a memorable ride today... not only did I get lost in the hills but got a flat too!  The wrong turn gave me an extra 5 miles while I figured out where I was at.  Pretty day though!!!! :>

japarker24 - 2011-03-19 8:18 PM 50 mile bike ride today, and I swear, I had a headwind the whole way!!!!

I know the feeling. I had a 12 mile run and felt the exact same. Even going down the hills was work.

40 mile ride tomorrow so I hope the wind lets up a bit.

My metric century went terribly wrong yesterday. There we only about 20 people doing the metric, and I only have a tri bike now, so I ended up doing the ride alone. I can't even type it myself without crying hysterically from the horrible memory, so I am posting this. Below is my husband's account of what happened yesterday, he put this on facebook to let all our family and friends know:

From Joel:Joel O'Malley
The girls were at a friends house and went to Chucky-Cheeses, Jillian and Loraine were on a supported bike ride, and I was at home the day after surgery relaxing. Then I got a phone call. Jillian called me crying hyst...erically, She had anoth...er PITBULL incident. She was chased 4 times during the ride. The first 3 Pitbulls that chased her only chased her about 10 feet. But the last Pitbull that chased her ran after her for about half a mile growling at her. She said it got so close that it almost bit her tire. She did not have her gun on her as we thought that this would not have been an issue but apparently all the Pitbull owners have a lack of care for human life as the are just let to roam the streets and highways. She was so scared, one because once again the only breed of dog that we have issues with, (PITBULLS), chased her down with blood in its eye, but also because where the last Pitbull chased her there was no one behind her or in front of her. So had she not been able to out run that damn stupid dog,(which according to her GPS watch she was biking at 27 MPH) she feared she would never see her family again. So needless to say, being a day out of surgery and on Percocet, I drove the 40 miles to where she was, Armed with my side arm and ready to kill that stupid animal. Luckily, Jillian made it to a rest point were she was waiting. When I made it there I picked her up and we drove to the site where the Pitbull had chased her. There was another rest area just after the BEASTS house, and the was a cop there. So I went up to the police officer and told him what had happened. He went to the house and had them put them in the house. Once again, nothing can be done because thank GOD, Jillian was able to get away and was not bit. But the sad part in it all is that now myself and Jillian live in fear where we live. I plan on doing the same, as I told Jillian I want her to carry her gun on her at all times, except for when on post because you can't carry on a a Federal Installation. It is really sad that it has to be this way. Like I said, Another Pitbull, not a Lab, or something else, A DAMN PITBULL. I HATE THOSE DOGS

So this is what happened to me, and I can't get it out of my head, I was so terrified. I have done 2 tours of duty in Iraq, the first tour being when the war started, I was a machine gunner for the lead truck in all the convoys, I wasn't as scared back then as I was today. I have been trying to get it out of my head, think of other things, but I just keep getting flashbacks, and once again experience the fear I felt yesterday. I am extremly bumed this happened, I made it to mile 49 feeling awesome, like my legs could have handled another 50. I am so depressed living here, I want to move so bad.

Jillian, I am so sorry and sad to read that.  That is one of my biggest fears b/c I am always by myself on rides (too slow to keep up with others).   I hope you can find some peace after that soon.

Jillian - So sorry you had that experience. At least you can write about it from home and not from the hospital. I'm glad that you can out of it physically unscathed.

Jillian, soory to hear about your ride. I had to take a dog owner to court 2 yrs ago for letting his dogs(5) run wild. Called County Animal Control and they get 2 "warning" notices, then on strike 3, we went to court. I had pics of the dogs running in the street and chasing my car and the Judge fined them $175 per dog x 5. I made a new redneck friend that day. They have since put in an elec fence.

Thank you for all your support, I am feeling better today, much better, and a little angry. I took my anger out on the road and ran 4 miles today in about 33 minutes. Tomorrow will be my regularly scheduled swim workout. This incident changes nothing, I will still move forward to get to my goal.

Great race cube!

Very busy week with parent/teacher conferences. The weather isn't cooperating. Freezing rain last night and temps for the next few days in the 30s

...and the birds that recently returned are pissed!

Did everyone see these ride options (?):

http://iamtri.com/group/ironmanlouisville2011/forum/topics/imky-2011-group-ride-dates-and

I can't remember if this was posted here or not.  The guy who puts this on (Bob Baney) is super nice, I have talked with him through email a few times.  This is a great opportunity to ride the course!  I have RSVP'd for three of the dates (June 11th, July 23rd & Aug 6th) and am really looking forward to it.

There is also some swim and run options, too.  Hope some of you can make it!

I would love to do a couple of those but it is a 9 hour drive, then add the hotel room and it just doesn't seem doable for me.

Stacie,

I believe it was mentioned once before, but it is always good to bring it up again to refresh everyone's minds.  That way we don't have to go searching through all 57 pages!!!

Anyway, I'll be there on Aug 6th.  Hope to meet you and other BTers!

Alan

I did the standard lactate threshold test for the run last night and was happy with the results.  I felt as though everyone in the gym was watching me and wondering why in the heck I was killing myself.

My wife came around the corner a couple of minutes after the test and her eyes widened and her jaw dropped.  She says she has never seen me look so red and exhausted.  I told her that I must have done the test correctly then!

I'm feeling good about my training.  I'm ready to start building.

I'll be there for the August 6th ride, an 8 hour drive for me, but worth it.

I plan on heading down for a few of the rides.  There are some other IM Louisville competitors here in my hometown, and we plan to come down for one or two of the rides.  Someone did post the dates and the link a little while back. I hope to see other BT'ers down there.

Another Ironman Louisville, Athlete Interview. This time time with Todd Chestnut. He's taken some time away from triathlon, but he's coming roaring back to reclaim his love of the sport. Check it out on my blog...link below.

Peace.

Busy week with parent/teacher confernces. I haven't been on my bike yet this week. Today, however, will be that day. I had a solid drill session at the pool today and when I returned I was informed that school was closed. Icy roads...though I thought they were fine. Money savings?

I hope to get reaquainted with my weights today as well. I was lifting 3x a week, but now I'm down to 1x. This has not been by design unfortunately.

Warm weather needs to take a stand...and soon.

I finally bit the bullet and committed to a hotel for race weekend...finally getting real!

In case you're yet to book, check out the Days Inn in Jeffersonville, Indiana - it's about 1 mile from the bridge (which is only about 5 blocks from the finish line), and on hotels.com it's $40/night right now.  I checked out the reviews and it seems like just a normal cheap hotel...hoping for no bad surprises!  Anybody ever stay there and know if I should expect the worst?

Looks like I am going to have to switch up my schedule to start swimming first thing in the morning. Apparently, I can't go in the evening without 3-4 people wanting to be my swim coach. They can't realize or understand that I am not trying out for the 2012 London Olympics. I just want to swim, if you can call it that, I like to think of it as "drowning with style". I swim about 1:58/100.

Early AM works better for me anyway, my pool opens at 5 am, which gives me more time in the evening to spend with my girls instead of heading to the pool after dinner.

Jillian--I've read about people offering up unsolicited swim advice before, but that is ridiculous.  I've never experienced it myself, nor have I offered up swim advice unless someone asks.  That is just odd to me.  Good luck with the switch to the morning workouts.  Hopefully the morning swimmers are too tired to think they have to give you advice.
