pdbman - 2010-03-17 3:28 PM How's your dad doing today?  And how are you holding up under the stress?
My dad is doing poorly...his blood oxygen levels have been low.

I am doing alright.  My family has been dealing with my little sisters severe health issues since I was in grade school.  We have know how my dad's condition would progress for the last 5+ years and we actually didn't expect him to make it as far as Christmas 2009.
We have time to reminisce with him about the past, which has been very nice.  In the last couple of weeks I have heard some stories from his childhood that I had never heard before.

Like the time he was asked to take care of the hose in the back yard...when he announced he was done his parents came out to find that he had chopped it into little pieces with an axe.

That's pretty cool.  I remember my wife spent time with her grandparents collecting stories before they died.  It was great.  She recorded it all but unfortunately one of the tapes was ruined so some stories were lost.

Hello team T.W.I.S.T.E.R.
Hi, I'm Bill from the Beginner Triathlete I.T. department.  I'm here to inform you that you're team has too many posts and you should all reduce your number of posts to a maximum of 2 PER WEEK through the end of this challenge.  Unless, of course, your BT status is "Muck Raker" or "Dork Face", in which case you should post only once per week.

Furthermore... your prolific BT logs are jamming up our servers, so the I.T. department respectfully asks that you significantly decrease the volume of your workouts.  Heck, it's St. Patty's day, so why not just take the rest of the month off?  Rest is nice.  Rest is good.  Grab a green beer and blow off that workout.  Triathlon training is REEEEEALLY hard.  Maybe do some bowling or some basket weaving.

We appreciate your support,
The BT.com I.T. Department

I think this is a good idea

That picture was actually taken from my parents back yard on Labor day weekend 2008.  I was installing a Solatube (skylight) with a friend (you've got to do a home improvement project on labor day you know).  I am sitting in the attic with my top popping through a hole in the roof.  And yes, it was sunny.

My dad told me some of the stories from when he was growing up.  He should have waited until I was a little older before he shared them with me.  I used them as an excuse to do some things I didn't have the guts to do before.  Apparently he learned his lesson because he didn't share those same stories with my younger siblings. I still don't think he should have gotten mad at me for some of the things I did.  I didn't do anything that even came close to some of the things he did.

Welcome back.  How was your run?

It was actually pretty good.  I was thinking to myself that I don't feel like I'm getting any faster lately...but then I forgot I have only been running for a little over 2 months since taking 3 weeks off after my marathon in December.  The reason I thought I wasn't getting any faster was because I was running at about my marathon pace...but I also thought to myself...how the heck did I run this pace for 26.2 miles a few months ago???  LOL

This 'IT' fellow, bill, misused the word exempt.  He follows it by saying that muckrakers are limited to one post per week rather than the rest of us that are limited to two.

After all...it is St. Patty's Day

And we wouldn't want to crash the BT servers

Because people who post as if they talk to themselves are crazy

Oh...but "muck raker" and "dork face" are exempt...
This 'IT' fellow, bill, misused the word exempt.  He follows it by saying that muckrakers are limited to one post per week rather than the rest of us that are limited to two.

Ah...good catch...

But maybe that just means Bill can post on the TWISTER thread as much as he wants, but on the bEASTies thread only once a week.

tri808 - 2010-03-17 4:34 PM Just finished my usual 5 mile run at lunch...masters class after work.

LOL

Its frustrating isn't it. I made the mistake of taking too much time after a marathon and now I'm trying to build up my base all over again.  Now my short distance pace is the same as my long distance pace. I won't ever make that mistake again.

pdbman - 2010-03-17 3:36 PM So Melissa. How far did you have to drive to find a sunny hillside for your avatar picture.  They don't have too many of those in Seattle.

You have to cherish those sunny days in Seattle.

And take lots of pictures so you remember that the sun does shine occasionally in Seattle.

I don't need photos....I can show you my collection of sunburn lines.      There have been enough times that my shirt slid up and exposed a couple of inches of skin while digging, planting, weeding, etc. that I have an annoying permanent discoloration on the back of my waist

I am constantly backsliding on my running fitness level.  I can't do very much without risking injury and I am not consistant enough to build up my running base.

Ahh yes, the little sunshine smile. I remember seeing one on a girl who changed her swimsuit part way through the season to one where the bottom cut a little lower.  It looked very painful. Nice tan line then bright red "smile." I bet she wasn't smiling later.
