Veteran 140 Quail Valley | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Good Job Lou!!! You survived your 1st and want more so thats a win. I remember my first one and I thought I was going to die in the water and only 5 people were behind me and I still don't know how. For me it was just getting use to breathing and trying to stay relaxed. 3 mile run today!!! Edited by phildampier 2013-03-11 10:08 PM |

Veteran 239 Austin | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 ok, I am now calling in from the peanut gallery... first, welcome to all the new group members...i read every page, and am EXTREMELY happy to see all of you here. Lou, you are da MAN! Congrats on the tri, brother! OK, so ... I have a goal for you... you said an IM by the end of 2014... here is the deal... as Bryan, Mark and Briana can attest, my IMAZ 2012 finish was much less than awesome or inspiring (but I was very happy to finish). So after a few minutes discussion with my coach, I am going to commit to IMAZ 2014. I promised Bryan to be sitting on the bench this year when he comes by to start the third loop of the run to repay a very large debt, so I am thinking I would really like to get a better finish out of Tempe - which leaves me a LOT of room for improvement! so -how about it, Lou? Meet you at the finish line? You ALL have many things to be proud of...you have made a commitment to improve your health, and to stay active - there are 2 right off the bat. Keep training, keep believing, keep moving forward. whatever you do, DON'T sit down! Ok, now returning to the regularly scheduled programming...

Member 6 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Congrats Lou on finishing your first tri - way to go!! My first race the swim wasn't pretty either but I loved the experience too and I finished the race, that's all that really matters. I have a question about training for you veterans on here. I am training for my first 70.3 at the end of June and I have been working with the 20 week program provided on this site. Things have been going pretty good, but I have had to adjust a lot to what fits my schedule. But this week I have hit a very busy week with commitments that will make getting in any workout from Monday to Friday very difficult. Which has me a bit concerned that I will fall of track of where I should be. I was wondering how then I should attack my training. I can possibly get in a bike trainer ride or two on those evenings when I finally get home, and I have a 4 mile race scheduled for Saturday. Should I just do what I can, not over think things and pick up my training at the next week's workouts? |

Veteran 215 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Congrats Lou!!!! Awesome job finishing your 1st triathlon. As my coach often tells me, you beat everyone still sitting on their couch. Great job and many more tris to come. Take the IMAZ challenge - it was my first IM and a so much fun! A great course for a first full IM and 2014 is totally doable. Having a rough go out here in Vegas with a calf injury. Trying to get everything squared away for 70.3 Oceanside in a few weeks. My coach is finally back from 3 weeks of training in Spain so all is right in my tri world again.
all input appreciated.

Can you please explain what is involved in this? Also, will I have enough time to get my bead prior to 70.3 Oceanside which is month end?

Extreme Veteran 845 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Steve, If you are having a crazy week then fit in what you can and then pick up the next week. Just look at it as a recovery week. Remember we all should take a recovery week and my is every 4th week or when my schedule dictates it. Don't stress over it (I know easier said then done). Extreme Veteran 845 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Molly, I am thinking rest and let the calf heal till your race. Just my thought. Lou - If you want to do a HIM look at Augusta 70.3 in Augusta, GA at the end of Sept. The swim is down river so you do have a current to help you get to the finish. It is not a strong current but it does help you get there faster. |

Member 65 Orlando | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 I was looking at that race, but we are doing the tower of terror 10 miler as a family at the beginning of October so that would be rough. Also I'm putting anything further than a sprint on hold until I get a MUCH better grip on open water swims.I meet with my trainer tomorrow so should have some kind of a timeline then |

Veteran 201 Long Island | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Hey Lou. Great job! You will get a handle on the open water swim, give it some time. The wet suit is key. I got my one and only wet suitfrom x terra. Used their fit chart. It was too small. I tried it and couldn't breathe, it also took at least 15 min to get on. My daughter was on the floor laughing. They are true to their word, they exchanged it. The next size up was perfect. As perfect as a wet suit can be. By nature they are not comfortable until you get in the water. I need some breathing and neck room. It was only $100. A few years back. Molly, I agree with KTC, rest that calf. And the person with the training question with a tough week. It happens to me a lot. Just do what you can and let it go!! If you can make it a recovery week, that's good. I also use BT programs and I have my recovery week slotted for week 4 but move it around if you need to . Make the training program work for you!! I brought my bike and trainer to a conference in Boston and ran up to the room on lunch and sweat it out for 50 minutes, jumped in the shower and grabbed a salad to eat in the conference. Not sure if that will work for you but at night it may. Tech question, if you are writing a reply and want to look back at what some one else said, can you? The one time I tried, I lost my whole reply and had to start over again. Hey Billy, I get what you are saying about the bike trainer being a great work out. Can you suggest some specific work outs? I am not very creative and get bored real quick regardless of what video or audio I surround myself with. I need a plan!! Thanks for your help or any body else for that matter. I am thinking 2014 may be my Ironman year. I am building. Not sure what race I should think about. I live on Long Island. I'm not strong on hills, heat doesn't bother me and I am a decent swimmer. My run is not strong either, I am doing 11:30 splits now and that's a bit of an improvement. IMAZ intigues me cuz of all of your history there but the cold water is concerning. (I read the book!) Panama City? Kentucky? Placid is too hilly although I could checkout the course, it is not far from a cabin we have in the Adirondacks. Any thoughts?? Thanks all, ann |

Extreme Veteran 845 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Wow, Billy has been busy.....mailing things and replying. I guess he does have the triathlon bug again. Ann, I just signed up on Trainer Road and for $10 a month and you can suspend it during the summer it gives you a variety of workouts. So far all I have only done one workout with it but it was so cool. Can't wait to get on the trainer again and use it. Look it up as it might be something you want next winter as it will get warmer here soon. The weather is going to be nice this weekend and I get to sit inside all day Saturday for a seminar. I know I will be itching to get the day over with so I can go out and enjoy the weather. Hope everyone else has great weather this weekend and can go out and enjoy it! |

The only thing I think it did was keep me warm, but I was so horrified of drowning, that honestly I didnt feel the temp of the water except on my face.

Veteran 201 Long Island | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 Lou, keep us posted as to how your swim instruction is going. Not sure if I mentioned, I used the wet suit sizing chart provided on line and it set me up for the small suit, medium was way better. Just in case you are purchasing.

Extreme Veteran 1338 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 We'll try this link: http://www.beadsofcourage.org/category_13/friends-and-relatives.htm... /> A Bead kit is the bottom option on the page. If the link won't work go to beads of courage.org > events > team beads of courage > click the bike jersey and then go to the bottom of the page. For 13 events in 2013 - that purchase option is on the second page. 13 events in 2013 was born out of the desire to express a big commitment. You will buy 13 Bead kits for $130 and recognize and honor 13 kids Courage as you carry these Bead throughout the year. Any questions, let me know. |

Extreme Veteran 1338 | Subject: RE: Left.Right.Repeat - CLoSED for the season - will reopen Jan 2013 For those of wondering about the reality of an Ironman or who are looking at 2014 as a goal, I obviously highly recommend a November trip out to AZ. You can meet a bunch of your new best friends in person. Marianne will probably have a party!!! Where are you MAV? Watch the race, get the logistics, volunteer and sign up Monday morning with a guaranteed slot. We have several racing this year so when volunteer sign up opens in June - get a slot early. Finish line catcher from 8pm-12 is my favorite. Very emotional experience as you watch the human spirit in person. Don'tcha dare miss it - you might even catch me. Hahaha |
