We aim to please.

I am driving up either Tuesday or Wednesday.  More likely Tuesday, so I can ride Wednesday then the Gatorade swim Thursday and Friday.  Or maybe save money and drive up Wednesday Gatorade swim Thursday and Friday with a ride or a run.  I should be up before Friday then rest Saturday and race Sunday.   But I am no fun in person so get with Jenn (that's with 2 n's) she's a hoot but slow.

Agree with everything Tasr said. Its funny that everyone talks about practicing hills to prepare for this course but they usually mean going up them. With the Keene descent it is just as important to practice your handling descending. Glad you liked the race report.

1. Is this your first IM?
Number 5 and the LAST ONE!!!
2. Have you done LP before?
3rd time will be 2010.I DNF 2007 yep I did I said it.
3. What are your goals for the 2010 race?
Finish before dark
4. Do you have any specific questions that you wish addressed about LP (the race, training etc)
How can I keep the monkey off my back!!!

Welcome!

As for #4, feed it bananas.

Wouldn't that, like, attract more monkeys? And then, you'd have a whole troop of monkeys on your back (which is not as bad as a pungent of sasquatch, but way worse than a drove of a$$es! <- Thank you Google).

Yeah what’s your point?  A troop of monkeys sure would be fun. Laughing

“a pungent of sasquatch, but way worse than a drove of a$$es!”

Man Google is really getting creative.   They should do that as a Google header.

Assuming I actually get to do the race I am probably going solo coming up Thursday, finding someone on BT who will let me shack up with their rental on a coach or something and coming home first thing Monday morning.  Can't afford to make it a big family trip unless things change between now and then.

I am with you Daremo - this event is getting very expensive. Plus it would be tough for my wife with a 4 and 2 year old. My racing buddy and I are coming up on Thursday as well. Let me know if you cant find a place and I will run it by him.

I'll be arriving in town early Thursday and staying through Tuesday.   My wife is recruiting quite the entourage to make the trip up and cheer for me.  I'd best get to training so as not to disappoint my fan(s).

Just wondering since you guys are freaking me out - the fastes downhill i ever did was about 37MPH. Do people walk down the Keene Descent?

I would not recommend this. If for no other reason it would cause a dangerous situation with people staying left to avoid the walkers and blocking the faster people coming down behind them.

Relax buckaroo.   Wink

If you can comfortable descend at 37mph; no need to walk.  Walking the Keene descent is the last thing you need to do or for anybody else.  Did you miss that part about “Know your limits”?

Yes that is me rapperlling off of the USS Intrepid during an adventure race. The rope ended about 25 feet from the water (yes the gross Hudson River water).

Everyone needs to chillax about the Keene descent.  It's super fun!  You have this absolutely gorgeous water to your right, they've repaved a lot of the road, you're not suffering climbing some mountain, it's really just great.   My second time ever riding in aerobars was on the Keene descent...and i screamed for half of it b/c i was having such a ball out there.

You big baby, you’ll do just fine down the descent.  Wink

Dude you repelled from the flight deck of USS Intrepid which is several stories high and then dropped over two stores at the end of a rope.  Nice!

Btw I was a US Army Air Assault Rappel Master with the 101st Airborne Div. and 25th Inf. Div.  I have hundreds of hour rappelling and thousands of hour’s flight time.

I was so much younger then. Plus I didnt have kids yet so I took so many more risks. Best part about that rappel was the dead cat floating ten feet from the drop in point. After that I had to climb up a rope net fence to the deck of the Intrepid, run to the end of the boat, then grab a rope and jump off. That rope I had to slide down back into the water and wouldnt you know it, I burned my finger tips cause I was wearing my biking gloves. needless to say, after that I purchased rappelling gloves.
