wmcgee62 - 2010-05-27 10:18 AM Mike you were #5 out of 12 in your Age group for your second triathlon. For me that's impressive. I waddle closer to the back of the group so any one that can even watch the front runners is impressive to me. I look forward to meeting BigR in Sept. We have food for thought of meeting again next year for a HIM. Nothing concrete but hey who knows. I think meeting others from this forum that have the same goals is neat.  I love to travel so meeting others this way makes the journey that much more interesting.

I am a back of packer, too. I never have to worry much with crowding or anything. The only way I will ever get on the podium is keep doing this long enough to be the only one in my age class.

I will be scarce here this weekend folks. We have lots of guests coming in from Friday till Sunday or Monday. We have a huge gumbo cook out on Saturday and play frisbee golf. I hope to get some runs and a little biking in this weekend if I can get out before the tourons hit the road.

You all have fun and keep up the great training.

Wow.  Sorry Wes.  Keep smiling and keep moving sounds good.  The Ann Landers in me says don't freak out either.  Train when you can and you'll feel better.   Train when you struggle to fit it in and you'll feel worse.[/QUOTE

Thanks Mike. Training right now seems to help me focus and temporarily put my mind at ease. I read somewhere training is a lot like life. There will be times it will be hard to push thru it and others times it feels good.  Ironic that life is hard and training feels good

Who'd have thought? that to be true?  On the grand scale of coping mechanisms and vices, I'm pretty sure training would top my list of good ones.  I can only hope that I someday I'll turn to training instead of 5 Guys and Carvel/Dairy Queen.

Best of luck with everything, Wes.  It sounds like you've got alot on your plate but you'e handling it well, plus you've got some baby Ghoulies rooting for you here!

Good luck on your race this weekend!

Two last things as I sit here in my wetsuit in honor of Marla (thankfully, it's not 90 degrees like it was yesterday)...

1.  I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and

2.  best of luck to everyone racing this weekend!

How about a road trip in that wetsuit?!

It's a great visual...hope you 2 had a pleasant evening together. I'm off to give mine it's first real world whirl: OW clinic & practice mile swim.

Y'all have a nice day!

Yep, went back this morning - what fun! My goals were simple: (1) not to hyperventilate in the dam neoprene prison (that I've now affectionately named Orca), and (2) to focus enough on my stroke, and go slowly enough, so that my shoulders wouldn't hurt. Both goals accomplished. Shoulders hurt less than in the practice swim yesterday, which was awesome. Never pushed hard enough to breathe hard, and so was really stoked to finish 90/187 in 1-mile wetsuit division (7/17 in age group). Makes me want to go back next year and really try!

Hope y'all had a nice weekend.....

Thanks! Yeah, I just am not crazy about the sensation. It's really the neckline that bothers me most, but the next largest size felt too big and not much better around the neck. I don't like turtlenecks, either. I also found out today that Body Glide seems to attract algae - left my neck and hairline a lovely slimy green.

Good afternoon Mentee's!

How is everyone's holiday weekend going?

Sorry I've been MIA, I have been dealing with some upper respiratory crap the past couple of days and it just drains the energy right out of me. I still have a scratchy throat and a bit of a cough but I was able to get a 33 mile bike ride in this morning so I think the worst of it is past.

Stay safe if you're traveling today!

Hey all.

I have been MIA in a most pleasant way. I spent the entire weekend with good friends, food and drink. I did manage to get a little tiny bit of training in but not enough to counter the weight gain.

Now nose to the grindstone.

I have to get ready for a 5-mile uphill race to the top of Grandfather mountain. It is way more exteme than I am ready for. But I have to do it as I wimped out last year and a huge number of my friends will be there (camping at the Highland Games) so I cannot wimp out this time.

Also, I have to get as many miles in to try to get at least a tenth of what Bill is gonna get this month!

Nice.

I've had my son out 3 times already this year. We've caught a ton of blue gills, a couple of crappie, 1 lonely trout, a couple of chubs, and a few small mouth bass. We might try trout fishing again this weekend.
