A little footage of the IMTX run course.

Warning: Do not watch this video if you get car sick and/or have a history of seizures...

I taped a little point-n-shoot/tripod combo to my road bike and road the Ironman Texas course this morning. The video starts off looking at Town Green park (transition 1) and then follows the course... to the best of my understanding. The map and written directions on www.ironmantexas.com do not align perfectly.

The elevation map is shown here (http://www.brittanilouise.com/coreyoliver/IronmanTexasRunCourse-Lap1.jpg). The starting point of the first lap is slightly different than laps 2 & 3 but 99% of those laps will be the same.

p.s. I got a flat on my front tire somewhere in the last few miles so it gets super shaky.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rywOgT1oDgQ

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Looks PANCAKE flat to me, lots of good shaded area on the first half, lots of good spectator areas on the last couple miles. Do you guys think the streets will be closed or will we be running on the little side trails?

It is very flat with a couple slight gradients over the bridges.  Ton's of spectator areas.

Most of the folks I talk to believe we'll do the running on the 'trails' and not on the streets.  Could be nice to have some shade (although I'll probably be running in the dark regardless), but those paths can get quite humid.  It may get crowded being a 3 loop run.

On a side note, the Woodlands HS prom is the same night at the Marriott on the waterway.  They may have a hard time closing down the streets with an event that large going on in the same vicinity.

Anyone know if there will be a tailgating option like at Lonestar and Longhorn? If so, are we doing a BT tent? If someone arranges it, I volunteer to bring a couple of kegs (5 gallons each) of specially prepared homebrew, CO2, etc, with the stipulation that one keg is athlete's only!It just occurred to me since I'm sitting in my kitchen right now brewing a batch of Honey Hibiscus Wit.

DAMN!!!  I got whipped by the wind today on the bike.. Only averaged 17.41 mph.   I swear the head wind was coming in every direction; I never caught a tail wind just head on and angles.

Quads are screaming today!   I need to look for another route other than Fry Rd.  It is flat, but there is nothing to break that wind.

Holy cow it was brutal out there Saturday with those winds! Felt like a superstar on the way to Richards, felt like calling my wife on the way home. Ugh. Hope it's a little more calm come raceday.

I have a question on the run special needs bag...being a 3 loop course, is it something that we could "access" on each loop or only they one time after 1.5 loops?

Also, I cant imagine running on the "trails" or running paths. Those paths are not that wide. You can run two abreast without much crowding..get a third person trying to pass and they will be running the fine line between path and trees.

I agree.  Can any of you that are in contact with the RD confirm?

Really? I always thought prom was end of April / early May. I can't find the date online though. Seems like a real nightmare to try to have both going on at the same time.

Lovely. Hope this kids are taking limos and not driving to their senior prom. Is it just me or does it seem like the location of this race is a bad choice?

It's not so much the location of the race, but the idiocy of Woodlands High School for not checking to see if there were something going on that weekend.  Or it could be the town not telling them to schedule the prom for another weekend.  Or it could be that the town told them to reschedule but the parents threw a little hissy fit and the town backed down.  Or..... basically somebody dropped the ball here.

Regardless whose fault, this could potentially turn into a disaster.  This race is a big enough event to require the attention from whole town (police, fire, etc.), now we're going to have a bunch of drunk, horny teenagers starring in their own movies showing little to no regard for our safety.

That said, I'm sure Keith has a handle on the situation.

just guessing, but it may have more to do with there being 9 high schools in the spring/conroe/woodlands area trying to schedule the proms on separate weekends.. i wouldn't be surprised if the dates are already set for 2012 proms..

..i just need to finish by 7pm so i have time to shower before the dance floor opens at 8pm.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. My understanding is that this prom as well as the ones for the others in the area have been on the calendar at the Marriot for a long time and well before a date was settled on for IMTX. In fact, there were some rumors flying around before the race was announced when we all knew it was going to happen but just not when that the first year might be a Fall race because they were having issues with the hotel. Looks like the hotel, Keith and the corporate IM folks got comfortable with both events happening at the same time.

Everyone needs to stop your crying and enjoy the race and the area. If Keith is comfortable with it I'm fine with it. Stop with the gloom and doom predictions.

Not crying about it, pal.  Just pointing out the obvious potential problems with over 2000 racers, their families and friends, and volunteers being in a relatively confined area, becoming even more congested with an influx of teenagers trying to get to their special night when a large part of the race field will still be on the run course.

But then again, when you fly in here, having only posted 3 times on these boards, and cop an attitude about others "crying" about it, you probably must be fast enough that you won't have that to worry about.

Just because I don't post here often doesn't mean I'm new here. I've been a member and a casual reader nearly as long as you have. I think you've got me beat by about 5-6 months. Congrats.

On your "fast enough" comment. Thanks for the confidence. Unfortunately it's not really warranted considering my PR is an 11:54. Although considering the prom doesn't start till 8pm I guess you're right and I'll be safe. Hadn't thought about it that way,.

Now, if you'd like to talk seriously about this, according to the map and my view out my office window, the run course goes "behind" the Marriott and no where near the front drive where all of these horny teenagers will be looking to ruin your special night. There's one steet crossing in the area and it's a block or so down the road. I'm willing to wager that there will be either road closures or some kind of traffic control at this point.

You can either choose to worry about these issues that you have absolutely no control over or you can have faith that the professional race directors involved with putting this on have taken this into account and have a plan. I choose the latter.

p.s. If something goes horribly awry come race day due to these out of control horny teenagers, I'll happily come back here to take my medicine.

i see it bothering the kids more than it bothers the ironman hopefuls.. they'll have to battle crowds at market street if they choose to eat there, but there should be plenty of street access to the marriott from any direction other than the west.

Peak time is here for me.  Started Sunday with 2.5 run.  Weekdays are about the same except I have an extra swim every week.  But the weekends are going to be getting insane very quickly.

How is everyone feeling?

Legs are in a constant state of tired. I split up my long run/ride now so they arent back to back on the weekends and I think that is helping. Still dont have my nutrition figured out yet. I need to up my calorie intake on the bike.

I am headed down this weekend to ride the bike course and run a loop of the run course. Does anyone know if the overpass at Fish Creek and FM 2854 is open (I thought I read somewhere that there was an overpass going in here)? Or should I stay on Honea Egypt until I get to 2854?
