My weekend has been a wash Friday I went out for a run and had to stop because I was feeling really bad. I didn't realize that it was the begining of some kind of virus. Woke up Saturday thought I felt good enough to ride I was wrong! I had to have someone pick me up at mile 36. Struggled through my middle sons brithday 6th party then spend the rest day in bed. Feel much better today a little dehydrated but ok. Heading to the beach if I'm lucky I'll get in an OWS.

Kelly -  Yes, I was sweating alcohol

Jeff - I actually saw Bridesmaids with my mother a couple weeks ago.  Funny....I never get to the theater, but I saw 2 movies this month.  Hangover 2 was funny.

It was nice to get out with my husband.  I don't usually drink.  Ever.  Decided to try a white peach martini, and it tasted like candy.  I just kept ordering them.  I need to learn to just enjoy the one   The bike ride was brutal.  My legs felt like rubber.  I felt crappy in the pool, too, but my times were ok, so I underestimated my effort.  Took the easy way home (fewer hills) and cruised most of the way.  Picked up husband and kids and went to big pool to hang out.  All 6 of us have some great sunburns (I coated the kids with sunscreen twice....got to love the beginning of the season).

We're just relaxing tonight.   Cookout and dvd.  This is a recovery week for me, so efforts are low.  Short run and 1 hour on bike tomorrow.

Anyone have any Memorial Day plans?

What type of running shoes do you all wear?  Just curious.

Before I found Fleet Feet in West Hartford, I was running in Nike Shox, because they looked cool!!  It's like running with cement tied to your feet, and my knees always hurt.

Since February I've been running in Asic Gel Nimbus 12's.  Super light, feet and knees feel great, and so does the back. it was nice to get on a treadmill at a shoe store, and get fitted for a shoe.  I am sure there are better ways to get fit than jumping on a treadmill for 20 seconds, but it worked for me, and clearly what I was doing before, wasn't working!!

Beware of the drinks that taste like candy - it just means they are really strong!  HA!  Good for you, glad you had a nice evening.

We ended up at a sports bar yesterday afternoon.  I was not planning on having anything to drink except water but I ended up having 3 beers - 2 of which were high gravity.  Those darn high gravity beers.  They taste soooooo good!

I was fit at a Fleet Feet too.  It was pre-treadmill days, they just watched me run outside along the store fronts.  It made a huge difference for me to find out I needed neutral shoes, not structured like the ones I was running in because my friend ran in them and said they were great shoes.

I also wear Asics Gel Nimbus.  I used to wear Saucony (can't remember the specific ones) but they changed the model and the new ones gave me blisters.  The Nimbus just changed to model 13 and I love them!  I loved the 12's too, but I really really like the 13's so far.

Mizuno makes a good shoe too.  I wore those for years, the Precision, a light weight neutral trainer.  But they too changed and they are way too wide for me now.

I think getting properly fit is key.  And I've learned when you find a shoe you really like, buy several pairs.  You never know when they are going to make changes to "improve" the shoe and the "improvements" no longer work for you.

I did a short open water swim this morning while my husband kayaked with me.  Then I ran from the lake towards home and he met me along the way with water and pep talks.  It was so humid out there I wanted to just quit.  But, I finished my long run and it went fairly well considering how miserable I felt.  The temp was only about 80 degrees when I finished (a little before 11am) so it must have been the humidity.  You could have wrung me out I was so drenched.

I passed the big fat snake again today (ran on some of the same roads I biked on yesterday) and he was unbelievably fat.  Saw another turtle shell, and a red cardinal completely intact that looked to be sleeping in the bike lane.  Poor little thing.

Tomorrow is a long bike ride.  Then my son requested we grill out for dinner.  He never wants to eat with us, so we are grilling out.  I'm very excited to get to spend some time with him.

The heat kills me, too.  Cleveland has tons of humidity.  It sounds like you've done some great training this weekend.  Enjoy dinner with your son!!!

Rode the Rev3 course yesterday.  was not 100% but my stomach tolerated gatorade endurance and GU.  Attached is my ride report in a work document, for some reason when i paste it into BT is gets all screwed up.  LOng story short: its a hard ride but i ride similar terrain all teh time.  the issue is my back, teh first mile or so of running is excruciatingly painful until the spasms stop, then i should be fine on the run, until i'm not.

Today is a swim in the sound  followed by a BBQ.  Beer, no martini's

FYI, click the little clipboard with the "T" in it and it will Paste as Plain Text, removing any hidden formatting that Word may add (or any other program) and it SHOULD come out alright. You can also try the Paste from Word one with the "W", but Plain Text is the safest bet.

Have fun with the BBQ later!

Couldn't open it, but nice job sucking it up with the stomach issues.  BBQ makes it all better.  Watch out for lightning today in the sound, nasty storms throughout the day here in CT

Got out at 6:15 this morning for 31 miles.  Invited a friend who is just getting back into it.  It was nice to not be the one people are waiting for.  iIve made some good gains since winter.  We split off at mile 25ish so he could go home, and I still had 6 miles to go, 3 of which are climbs. As I get to the top of the "big" hill, it starts to down pour. Had to ride in that for 3 more miles. Damn that rain hurts on the face!!!  We are now in the middle of a thunder storm.  Phewwwww, just in time!!

Happy Memorial Day

Family pics with a professional photographer this morning.  About to head out to ride.  Winds out of the SSE at 20 mph which just happens to be the final 10-15 miles of my normal loop.  Ugh.

Double-Crap today!

First, took my bag with me to work today so I could swim after. Figured I would call and see what time they close in case I need to haul butt. Well, they closed at 3pm for the holiday, no way would I make it.

Secondly, I found out the pool area is shut down for the next 2 months! ARGH! They've had these signs up for about 9 months now saying the wet area would be remodeled "soon", but hell, when is "soon"? Well, I found it, it starts now.

So I guess I'll have to swim at the other gym or the aquatic center for the next few months.

I hate it when they close the pool.  Hope the other pool is near you.

Neither of the other two are terribly far, but this one is easily the most convenient to get to. The worst part is I've figured out the windows of time when I can go and almost never have to share a lane...now I get to play that game all over again.

On another note, please all send good thoughts tomorrow...my dog, Jasper, has his surgery in the AM to amputate his toe and hopefully get all the cancer tumor out.

I hope Jasper has a successful surgery tomorrow.

Went out for a ride early this morning. I was fine until I crossed into the next town and the clouds came rushing in and brought with it downpour, lightening and thunder - totally rogue storm. Found some shelter at a park and called for pick up. I know, I'm a wimp but the lightening was bad. Lasted about an hour and then the sun came up. Should have just stayed in bed....

Got a swim in later in the day, so all was not wasted!

Positive thoughts for Jasper today!

Michelle - I would have called for a pick-up, too!  At least you got in a swim.

Jeff - Are you feeling good about the Rev3 race?  Any time goals for this one?

It was 90 here yesterday.  It's looking like it's going to be the same today.  My husband has to install these window ac units soon.  My fingers and toes look like sausages.  Anyway, I ate like crap all weekend (ribs on the grill last night), so I need to redeem myself this week.

Easy 4 mile run this a.m. and then recovery swim tonight.  The outside pool opened at the gym, so I'll get to do my swim workout outside!  Yay!!
