I got a nice swim in this morning, although it seemed to aggrevate my shoulder.  Race tomorrow if I don't have to work.  8 miler as part of the winter racing circuit.

Good luck Anne, and anyone else racing!!

TGIF!!

Way to get the swim in Ken..

Good look this weekend Anne, wishing you a PR and safe travels.

I am glad you got your workout in Carla, good for you!  BUT it is also important to get proper rest for both recovery and dietary reasons.  Smile

Understood Ken, point well taken. Usually I wouldn't do this, but, yesterday it seemed appropriate for me.

Don't mean to be the group "downer", my bad luck continues.  My hamstring is very tight.  Definitely not normal.

Besides shovelling snow & walking my dog, not exercised in a couple weeks, hoping it would improve,  Nada.

Debating whether to rest for 3-4 months & see if it finally heals, for spring.  Or just try again, but I suspect this is not the answer.

The Physio did not help much & $500 later, did not see enough improvement to continue.

Decisions to make...

Anyway, I have been relatively silent, as I have done nothing.  Hard to smack talk, when you are couch potato!

The club named me "Most Inspirational Triathlete for 2011" at the banquet Saturday.  The irony is that people in that room took me from a 4000 pound fat man to a lean, mean (well, not so mean really) Ironman.

So I was at the gym yesterday and this guy next to me is wheezing so bad just getting dressed.  He notices my IM dot tats. Asks.  I tell him and introduce myself as the guy who writes for the newspaper. He knows me. Says a co-worker uses me as encouragement.  His goal is to do IM Wis. in 2014.   He's lost 65 pounds.  I tell him he can do it.  I tell him to hook up with me on FB. I leave smiling...

Triathletes are in the inspiration business.  And we do it for free and for fun.

    Whoa, that is very cool!

    Yes, very cool!

SMACK your apology away... sooo frustrating to feel like you're confined to couchjail, swearing you can fee the atrophying in real time, so sorry to hear it's been slow going for you.... have also learned that patience is really rewarded by ultimately faster, safer recovery, so hope you hang in there... I've been really lucky to find THE perfect PT practice, and they're my gurus, but doesn't make it easier to tolerate...

    TGIF!!!!

One more week and life should calm down at least a bit.

I bit the bullet and purchased a treadmill today. Never in my life would I have thought I would be excited about a treadmill and actually purchase one.   I am picking it up tomorrow and will probably be spending a good part of the afternoon putting it together (I will have help).  Sure hope it works   I will now have NO excuses for not running.  I think it will also be great for brick workouts.

Carla and I are doing another very early (5:30am) Computrainer ride tomorrow. We have the IM Wisconsin simulation course and am really excited to do it. This will be the first time where I have done a course with the video of the course etc.  I am also excited about this ride in particular as I am planning on IM Wisconsin in 2013. (it is a secret, so don't tell Tongue out)

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Good luck to everybody racing tomorrow!  Not much smack talk from me tonight.  Got another 16 hour work day in and then came home for a 40 minute ride on the trainer.  I'm a little excited about tomorrow.  I'm going to be swimming in my first Master's swim meet tomorrow.  Not sure what to expect but I guess I will see.  The only problem is that I have to drive about 3 hours to get to the meet.Frown  So I'm off to bed because 4:30AM isn't very far away.

Hang in there Richard. I can commiserate, I have only exercised 4 hours this month and none of it cardio.  Getting better is more important (and harder) than being able to smack talk (as my hubby has to keep reminding me of). Please don't feel you can't participate or contribute to this group. I personally want to know how everyone is doing (the good and bad) so that I can congratulate, encourage, sympathize, etc... I know that when my foot is finally better I will be so ready to hit those hard workouts, because this group has motivated me so much.  keep us posted on your decisions - we are rooting for you!

Anyone going to follow the Panama 70.3 tomorrow to see how Lance Armstrong does?  I have mixed feelings on this one - just went to the Ironman website race coverage and every other update was about Lance.  While I want to see him do well the hype around him is unbelievable.  I am guessing it will calm down some after he gets a few races under his belt. I wish him all the best tomorrow.

Have you tried ART?  I am not sure it was much help with the ITB, but it definately fixed my hamstring issues.  It got me back running in a month or less.

Either way, stick around we enjoy your advice and conversation!

I will be curious to see how he does, but not enough to sit and watch it.  I am sure there will be a couple of threads here and over on the other site about it.   I agree though Robin, it will probably die off after he gets his first IM under his belt.  Unless of course he has a spectacular race and challenges for the win, highly unlikely in my opinion, but I have been wrong before.  He is certainly a great athelete so anything is possible.

Had a great time at my first Masters Swim meet.  I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would have.  Had some of my best swim times ever.  2:57 on the 200 free and :30 on the 50 free.  My 50 could have been a little faster but I lost my streamline coming off the blocks and my turn wasn't very good.  Learned a lot today.  So back on the bike and a run tomorrow.  I hope everyone that raced today had a good day.

[QUOTE]Wesley12 - 2012-02-11 6:06 PM Had a great time at my first Masters Swim meet.

Great job Wesley...I've heard great things about Master swim meets but I haven't been able to attend one yet in my triathlon career..Keep up the the great training..
