geauxtri - 2010-03-17 4:19 AM Topa d'mornin' TWISTERS!!!!

Sorry I've been a little rogue lately... been off of work for the most part the past couple of days and have managed to keep myself busy doing nothin' much...
Monday - Birthday ride up a canyon... felt SO good to finally get up it, it's been a goal of mine for a while - though it didn't deliver the mileage I thought it would    But it deliver a TON of shoulder pain, so I at last went and got a shorter stem for my bike on the way home
Tuesday - My b-day... went for a short run... once again I came up short of the mileage I wanted, I still haven't hit a 5k since my knee surgery   Then I finished yesterday w/ a kick@$$ preliminary interview for a job promotion!!!

Well HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY Heather!!!!!!

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-17 5:33 AM #4 - Last night but it was a very slow leak so I did the easy thing and just pumped it up 2 x on the way home.  Off to the bike shop today to buy more tubes Yell

Since your on a rant about flats.  This should make you feel better.  Last year, during a 50 mile MTB race I had, count them, 5 flats.  Luckily, it was a 12.5 mile loop course.  I discovered it is much easier to ride uphill on a flat than it is going downhill.

Great website Bill. It was neat to read about what you guys are going to be doing. Will it just be the two riders? or are you trying to recruit more?

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-17 5:30 AM Good Morning TWISTER's and Happy St. Patricks Day for all you Irish brethren out there

So I nursed a slow leaking front tire home last night and now I have another flat to repair - 4 for the year so far!!!!  And it is only March

With my riding my big fat knobbies on the road, I haven't had any problems with flats.  I hope I don't because I don't know how to repair one.  I need to go take at maintenance/repair class.

Lets fix that!

Look at Melissa pulling out the Dave Scott Flat Repair video - awesome!!!

True story...I watched this (then looked at my bike and practised it in my head) before one of my tris as I realized that I had no clue how to fix a flat if it were to happen during a race.  Low and behold, THAT weekend I got a friggen flat. However, I was soooooo proud that I was actually able to do it on my own. A guy even rode by and turned around to see if i needed help. I was just beaming that I was able to tell him that I got it!  Anyway, I hope I didn't just jinx it for you...

Tough day for me today.  I figured I would go for a quick 20 miles in some new terrain.  I had heard some good things about the area and thought why not.  Well, not so smart.  I broke some of my own preparation rules and I paid the price!  4 hours later, I completed the 20 miles.

Ride started good with some nice single track and mellow, descending switchbacks.  Nice to brush the cobwebs out.  Then I hit the first obstacle, about a knee deep stream running pretty well.  Decided to play it safe and walk it.  Well, don't carry your shoes and socks in your hand when crossing water.  I slipped, put my hand down, ended up with wet shoes and socks.

Due to the high water, the trail was gone.  So I ended up hiking roughly six miles along the river bed before being able to get back in ridable terrain.

Then I got to point on the map that showed a trail, but there was no trail.  I did find some flagging here and there.  So, I spent the next few miles with my gps, compass, and map.

At this point, I was pretty beat and was rewarded with three ridges to climb to get back to the ranger station.

So, my 20 mile ride, turned into a lesson in hike-a-bike, stream traverses, orienteering, and a climbathon (5,851 total ascent)!  I'm spent.

K, now that I've managed to catch up on the 10 pages I had fallen behind on, I will say I've done my duty in the posting department, no?!  Now, I (once again) need to go and update the spreadsheet...why is that so hard for me?? It would be so much easier if I would just do it as I log my workouts but NOOOOOOO, I have to make it hard on myself!

one last thing...has anyone done P90X? I've been debating about getting it since all I can do is sit on my arse until this shoulder thing decides to stop friggen killing me! Anyway, I figured since I'm concentrating strictly on running this year(K, I'm not reeeeally sitting on my arse, it just feels like it since I still can't swim or ride!) I would focus on strength training as well and thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience with this program.

I've never followed the program but I have done a few workouts here and there when I have visited my family (who were following the program).  From my limited exposure I remember there being a focus on pullups.

I'm not sure how bad you're shoulder is feeling but I'm sure you could skip exercises that were bothersome and still benefit.  other than that I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Hopefully someone else with a little more experience can chime in.

The only disk I tend to follow is the Yoga.  Otherwise, I prefer Crossfit.

x2

It's a lot of explosive movements.  I can't imagine how it would be easier on your shoulder than swimming, biking, or running...but I'm sure you could adapt some of the workouts.

Jay, if we lived closer I think I would have to force your arse out of bed in the morns by making you my running partner! There have been a few days here lately that I seriously could have used the push! I don't know what it is about this cold but it sure is lingering!

LOL...I find it so much easier to sleep in when it's "cold"...keep in mind that we're talking about temps in the 60's =)

Don't get me wrong; It was beautiful out there.  I just didn't prepare for that duration.  If I'm going for over two hours, I usually have a liquid diet established with a fixed protein:carb ration.  All I had was a Builder Bar, and luckily, my 100 oz CamelBak.
