I am going whitewater kayaking tomorrow for the first time in 7 years!!!! Driving down to Colorado with hubby while kids are in school and we will try and get 2 easy runs in. Have to pull out all the gear from the basement and wash the boats today. Hopefully, I will be able to find everything. jcbodergrant - nice ride - enjoy it!!!! tri808- how did your TT go? That sounds like incredible fun!!! I would love to do something like that! The only trouble is, in northern Indiana the closest thing to whitewater I can get is lots of small children playing in a swimming pool as I swim by. LMAO...Robin you are so lucky to live in that beautiful part of the country. Everyone else- I grew up in Buffalo, NY so I know your frustration. It seemed like winter was never ending. Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Yes, I'm hoping to lose those last 20lbs this summer. My brother is getting married in Sept, so it would be nice to look good at the wedding. small world - I grew up in Lackawanna. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() carlwithac - 2010-05-23 11:34 PM I just ran 5miles in the 70degree weather. After running all winter, my body is not used to this heat at all. I hope you're dialing back your pace a little. It makes a big difference in the heat and allows you to keep going longer. If you push too hard, you'll end up missing some workouts. |

If you push too hard, you'll end up missing some workouts. Yep. As much as I hate running slower than I really want to, I know the importance of dialing it back a little. I also got to practice my breathing control. I just had to bail on a friend who wants to go to the movies tonight because I plan on getting in a 2hr ride before class in the morning. For some reason I enjoy getting up and working out before everyone is out and about. I envy people my age who can waste their summers away because they don't have to work, and then I realize how awesome it is to be able to pay cash for a brand new bike and still have money left over. Yep, I'll keep my job and my training. Edited by carlwithac 2010-05-23 6:54 PM |

We'd all be in the cafeteria stuffing our faces after a two hour workout when people were just rolling out of bed. |

I realized it was because I got new tires on my TT bike, and any debris that got stuck to the wheel when the tire was wet would rub against the rear wheel cutout. There was only about 1-2 mm of clearance. So before my TT today, I knew it would rain and it would be a problem. Someone mentioned to me that there is a spacer you can adjust where the skewer sits to adjust how close the wheel gets to the cutout. When I checked it this morning, it was actually a screw. So I just slightly loosedned the screw about 1 turn, and that solved the problem giving me an extra 1mm or so of clearance. However, is there a spacer or washer that I'm supposed to buy so I can tighten the screw back and still leave the proper clearance between the tire and the cutout. I imagine it's not a good idea to ride all the time with the screw semi loose. There already was a rubber spacer between the screw and the frame...so I assume I need a slightly bigger spacer? The screw isn't really loose...you still need a screwdriver to move it. It seems like you might not have to worry about it while you are riding because your skewer should be clamped tightly in place up against it. I'm not exactly sure though. I've never tampered with those adjustments. X2 - even if you turn them, they should not be really loose. They are there just to make sure the wheel sits perfectly fore and aft. Just make sure if you unscrew one, unscrew the other the same exact amount. My bike has the same adjustment. |

Weather was horrible...high winds and rain. It was actually a bit scary at times. I think I left a little in the tank in the middle of the race, but I finished strong. At about mile 21 I did reach "slobberknocking" effort. I had to spit, literally TRIED to turn my head, but ended up spitting right over my front wheel. Luckily we had a tail wind at the end so it didn't come back into my face. I think I finisehd around 1:10...which confirms my belief that my 40k TT during my Oly was short...since I did that in 1:07. Anyway...another sucessful race for me. Any official report??? 1:10 is still damn good IMO. That's still in the order of 22mph. Pretty smokin fast if you ask me. Nice work! |

Yep, I'll keep my job and my training. I like your work ethic. It seems like that is hard to find much anymore. Carry that through your career and the benefits you reap will be enormous. Of coarse I am not surprised you have a strong work ethic, someone with a weak work ethic probably would be home sitting on the couch rather than training for anything. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey guys, raced Black Bear Olympic yesterday. Had a really good race PRd the 10 k by almost 2 min (but it was only my second 10k, both in tri's). Did pretty well on a super hilly bike course (which suites me). Wish I was 10 lbs lighter like I was last year, but most of that weight seems to be leg/shoulder muscle, so I think its helping me out overall. Pushed hard on the bike, cause I've never felt like I've pushed it as hard as I could and still maintain a run. I think I found that threshold today and it put me at 4th fastest bike, which basically made my race. Hung on for dear life on the run, and made it in pretty well. Just wrote my rerport: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=209408 |

It is rather frustrating that the FedEx tracking page on my PT wheel hasn't updated since 5/20 at 6AM when it supposedly left Bloomington CA. It still says that it is expected to arrive on 5/25 but I've been chomping at the bit for several days for an update. I figured that since today is a new business week that I would learn something new but I guess not. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well I am going to make it out for my first bit of exercise since I went to my friends bachelor party on Saturday. I am still pretty dehydrated from it and have some stomach issues. But it was well worth it. I figure getting out and getting a little sweat on will help me push through the hangover. Of course it is 80 something out so I am just going to make it a slow possibly short run. Pray for my stomach on the run. Haha |
