Whether I'm running 3 miles or 10 miles. So, today's run is just going to suck. Ain't that the truth??!!??!! I've been debating which corral to start in because my first few miles are usually WAY slower than my normal pace. I can't decide if I should start back farther then work my way up. Or start up a bit, then just try to hold on for the first few miles until I get comfortable. I think I have the "Don't go out too fast" stuck in my head and I'm thinking too much about it. I find that it is really dispiriting to get passed a lot. Even if you KNOW you started with the Hares. I prefer to start back with the lame turtles so I get to pass folks before I hit my "stride". I was leaning towards starting toward the back. I'm not fast, but I shouldn't be the slowest either. If I start up too far, I may try to push it harder than I should. I'm thinking if I start back I won't be as pressed to try and run harder than I should. I know I need to not pay attention to what everyone else is doing and just run my race. I have to keep telling myself that. Just find my pace. |

Do you want all 4 or just 1 of the 4??? And if just 1 which one?? Talking about killing trees! Can't you just shoot it to them in an email and save the trees? |

I hear you Ann. My last HM I went out way too fast and paid for it the last couple miles. I'm still not sure what my overall pace will be. During the taper I've regained a minute and a half on my pace. I know I can't keep that pace for the race, but I think I can do better than my long training runs when I my legs were pretty trashed. My long runs were all over the place depending on the weather and how much I ran that week. I'm not really sure of my pace either. I'm thinking the best thing would be to start slower. I can always pick it up if I feel good. If I blow myself up going out to fast it's going to be a sucktastic day. |

We hung mainly together until mile 16 and then all went our separate ways. If I got separated from them earlier I figured we would just catch up at the finish line! Would it be wrong to use those shoes with the wheels on the bottom? I could go faster using wheels. |

Some go out fast trying to bank time for the end of the race. I don't want to do that. I would rather start out right on pace for my desired time, then if I'm feeling good pick it up near the end. |

The one I was in kept the same pace the entire time. I've not had many long runs where I banked anything useable. One exception was the time the guy in the van was bothering me at mile 14 on a 16 miler. My last 2 on that one were the fastest of the entire run. Also, remember the course. The first 8 miles have elevation. |

I think I'm thinking too much. How do you turn off the thinky? |

I think I'm thinking too much. How do you turn off the thinky? What is this beat the bridge? They open the one bridge at a certain time. So you have to be past that point or they toss you on a bus and drive you to the finish line. I DO NOT WANT TO RIDE A BUS TO THE FINISH LINE! From the website MCM Gauntlet: Runners must maintain 14 minute per mile pace to pass the MCM Gauntlet at mile 17.5 at the intersection of 14th Street and Madison Drive NW. A tail-end vehicle will be in place to easily identify the necessary pace. Runners slower than the required pace will be detoured for safety reasons but will quickly rejoin the marathon course. These participants may continue to run the course but will not complete an official marathon. It is requested any runners rerouted at the Gauntlet not accept a finisher medal. Beat the Bridge: Runners must maintain the 14 minute per mile pace to reach the 14th Street Bridge and successfully "Beat the Bridge" just after mile marker 20. The 14th Street Bridge will reopen to vehicular traffic making it unavailable to runners after 1:15 p.m. Any runners unable to "Beat the Bridge" will be required to board the straggler buses and be driven to the event finish area. |
