It seems that long rides is the missing piece of your training. Of course, you're going through a brutal winter and the drainer is not the best place to put anything over 2 hours...Today's workout was the same as Wednesday: 8 x 1 min hills @ 2 min active recovery. 4.92 miles in 42 minutes in total.
Ernesto, But in the meantime, we'll be doing a 2 hour indoor trainer aerobic workout tomorrow.

As for the Garmin beeping when the HR goes up, Scott and I can hear it just fine. We where "Yur Bud" headphones. They have great sound and are fitted to you ear size so they don't fall out (a problem I always had)! It allows just enough ambient noise in to hear the watch or a mountain bike coming from behind. We don't have the high end version and ours work great. As for HR when cycling... Ernesto, I've mentioned the Threshold test I did and it but my aerobic zone at 146-153 (my MAF falls within that if I add 5), and I can keep it in that range during aerobic training.... I'm pushing to do it but I can maintain it throughout the trainer sessions. Edited by jenputnam 2012-01-13 10:50 PM |

How come it always feels they are against you even when doing a 180 degree turn? Funny you should mention this, I just read this article last night:
UNIVERSAL TRUTH OF CYCLING #3:HEADWIND BOTH WAYS. I’m an optimist. Let’s just get that straight right now. When I head out on a windy day I deal with the headwinds knowing that I’ll reap the benefits after the turnaround with that nice, robust tailwind, right? Then there are days that challenge my sunny disposition. As soon as you change directions, the wind decides to do the same. Yep, few things more lame than pedaling downhill. How the hell does this happen? How is this even possible? How is it that some winds have sentience? How is it that some winds are not only able to track my ride like a thinking being, but do it like a truly evil thinking being? Call them “Headwind Both Ways Days,” call them “M.C. Escher Rides (uphill both ways),” call them what you will, but I call them deeply unfair. Perhaps someday one of us will experience the opposite. The ride that only exists in myth. The “Tailwind Both Ways” ride. One can dream. http://18milesperhour.tumblr.com/universaltruthsofcycling

Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ernesto's group (third season) - CLOSED Samyg - 2012-01-14 5:56 AM Welcome to the world of cycling and its number one frustration, the wind. Roadies battle the wind hiding in the peloton and rotating the front (nobody gets to be there for longer than 30 seconds). Look at this video:10.5 mile ride @40'05". Nice 15 mph headwinds. How come it always feels they are against you even when doing a 180 degree turn? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhI8gWurWNQ&feature=related We don't get that so much, except some group riding that I HIGHLY recommend to everybody here. The trick for "fighting" the wind is exactly the opposite, don't fight it. Keep a high cadence, easy gear, relax your shoulders, tuck in and keep the heart rate low. |

The set that I bought came with two sizes (#4 and #7) and neither ones worked until I went to a marathon expo and spoke with the Yur Bud rep. Turns out the right size for me was #8. The rep told me to email customer service and sure enough a new set was sent out days later at no charge. They work like a charm and in all conditions. |
