What's up with a new TAN forming in the "Resident Evil" thread?

And what was up with an old TAN being resurrected this morning?

How did the Spammers find us?

What are you talking about?

x2.

The first item is gone now.

And the second?  I know nothing about.

This AM, an old TAN from the end of the summer popped-up with an add for women's swimwear.  Just a few minutes ago, an add for Resident Evil popped-up.  Now Marmadaddy's posting a rant on TriTalk about not responding to SPAM.

Just funny is all.

I noticed that this morning as well. Odd part is that it was a frozen TAN thread. Unless Marma just froze it then. It also was strange in that the SPAM post picked up on the work "bikini" as the ad was for a bikini site. Some pretty slick SPAM software going on there I think.

Yeah there is.  I occasionally get an email on my phone that opens a spam link.  When I open it, I can NOT get out of it without several attempts.  Every time I try to close the phone's browser, I get a popup asking if I want to exit.  If I say yes, another pop up.  I try to just back out, and a pop up.  I have to hit the home screen button 3-4 times to finally get out of it.  It's relentless.

That sort of thing is actually pretty simple to write.  Just because it is a button asking you if you want to exit doesn't mean that this is what it actually is programmed to do (e.g., you could *technically* be authorizing it to have access to your computer).  The best thing to do when you get something like that is to just kill the app with Task Manager (or your phone's equivalent).

I know, the "no" button could be "send another pop up" command.  But even when I hit the "return/go back" button on the phone, and not as part of the website, it still does that.

It probably goes back to the previous page, which then sends up the popup.

So, anyone experience a website that if you hit the "back" button it just refreshes the screen you don't want?  What's up with that?  Even if I double click it, it just refreshes it twice.  I have to click "back" really fast like 4-5 time to go back.

How does that work?

Maybe it's just ME, but I don't see how that works.

If I close an add about pomegranate juice, it's because I'm not interested.  If they don't allow me 2-3 times?  Do they think I'm suddenly GOING to be interested?

No, in fact, I get so pizzed off, I hate the the email, their entire company, and maybe even pomegranates in general, and pomegranates didn't have anything to do with it, poor pomegranates...

The person delivering the spam is likely getting paid $0.0001 for every viewing of whatever ad it is they are spamming you with.  They couldn't care less if you don't want it or won't buy it - they just want it to take up your screen as often as possible.

Kido - 2012-12-06 2:59 PM I think being able to post in a frozen thread should concern Marma some.  Somehow the spammers can get past some BT security measures?

If it was indeed frozen, then yes... it means that there is a hole/vulnerability in the site somewhere that lets someone insert information into the database.  That's a whole lot of not good.

My guess/hope is that it probably wasn't actually frozen and whoever wrote the spam bot, just wrote it to auto-attempt posting to any thread it finds.  I'd guess that it just went through threads until it found one that would accept a post.

Probably it.

We probably moved on and it never got frozen.

if the page you go back to has code that is set to execute on "page load", such as some javascript, or whatever, when you go back to that page, that code would re-execute.  You may not be re-retrieving the page from the server because you are loading it from your local cache, but 'Page Load' events would still get triggered.

Isn't there a Kevin Costner movie made of that?

How about dem Broncos?

Made of what? French fries? Some are pretty bad but I doubt they used French fries to make them.
My daughter likes Kevin Costner. She was friends with the kids of the guy who wrote Dances With Wolves and I guess KC came to her school to talk about native American stuff with the dad. So she thinks he's nice. He should make a movie about French fries.

If you called it Pomme Frites, it would be considered an artsy film and win awards.

Well, I dislike them...

I think people should only try to sell things to me when I want to buy them.

OR if they are phunneh, like beer commercials!

My father is from the birth place of "french" fries (actually Belgium); and I eat them as nature intended - with Mayo.

Man I miss the days I did that.  A good 50/50 mayo/ketchup mix with a dash of pepper.  Now dat was some good eats.

i just threw up in my mouth a little.

If you called it Pomme Frites, it would be considered an artsy film and win awards.

dat's not very paleo!

If they had it, they would have eaten it!

Funny thing is that "Pomme Frite" literally means Fried Apple. Pomme = apple. Pomme de Terre (Earth Apple) = potato.

I used to give grief to my father on my inability to order fried apple in Belgium without getting french fries back.

Yes, another useless, boring, TAN killing post with the only intend of showing my vast knowledge about everything trivial. My life is so exciting...
