Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Closed Boy am I in trouble. Due to a semi injury (more just being cautious) I took 4 weeks off the run and 3 weeks off the bike while only swimming 3-4 times a week. I guess my base wasn't that good since now I have trouble in the pool after my 200-300 warm up. I am having a hard time doing even 100 non stop after the warm up. I really don't understand this since I did 1200 non stop 1.5 weeks ago on the 9th and killed it again last week on the 14th. Then on the 16th everything just caved in and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Is it a lack of fitness thing or just an off week? I'm kinda worried since my race in in 3 weeks and I can't even swim 440 anymore. Someone please help |

I don't believe that not running or biking should really be impacting your swim. In fact, since you aren't spending as much total time working out - you should have plenty of energy left over to get the job done in the pool. Consider what would happen if you were tapering... You would be doing less so that you would have MORE energy. A week and a half would not result in any loss off fitness. So I'm not 100% sure why you are struggling with this - but you SHOULD be able to do this... If flying a Canuk down to FLA so someone could scream at you in the pool is too expensive - I'm more than willing to have my 80 year old uncle come give you crap. He's been screaming at people for decades... He'll put the fear of god into you! |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Closed Evening everyone! Well two interesting twists took place in my dream to complete an ironman in 2014. The first is that someone has offered to coach me for a reduced fee $25 per month) While She is young and only has a year of experience - I figure that she could be a huge help. Plus, in a weird twist, she went to college in Indiana (Rose Hulman) close to where I did (DePauw) and she dated a Fiji (which is my fraternity). So how bad could she really be? . I checked out her website and she seems legit - so in all seriousness - it's like a gift from God. The second twist is that a friend heard about my quest and has family in chattanooga where Ironman is scheduled to race for the first time in 2014. The advantage of doing this race is that it is later in september - so it won't conflict with the opening of school and I will actually get to hear - David Qua, from Cleveland Ohio, you are..." which is part of the dream. Plus, the official charity is the Crones and Colitis foundation which my has suffered from for 60 years. Not sure which race I will do - but it's an interesting twists with pluses and minuses to consider. Finally - the fam went out for Thai food today and I had both Chang and Singha beers. I liked the Singha much more... it was less malty and far more crisp and refreshing than the Chang. Thoughts. |

Is this something I need to watch and act on or just suck it up and it will pass. I noticed it started after I started to add in some strength exercises to work on some leg issues. I just want to make sure it's not something like over reaching that could put me out. Looking over my logs I don't see that I have been doing that much work but I don't know. I have not logged the leg exercises that I'm doing for 25 minutes each day for the past week. |

Question - When are you lifting in relationship to your swimming? Also, are there any other factors that might be tiring your out - stress at work, difficulty decisions over which beer to drink? difficulty sleeping? Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Closed I got my second bike ride in this morning before heading out for wings with my family (I know god loves me because he created wings for me to eat!). I was only going to do 2 loops on the bike path in the town where my parents live (Fredericksburg Va) but when my wife was late picking me up, I decided to bike the 3 mile loop one more time. I'm not sure if it woudn't have been better to wait for her to get there. The My achilles hurt and my hip still aches. grrr. We are driving home tomorrow so that will count as a rest day - if that doesn't get me feeling better, I might skip my 3rd run that I had scheduled for Saturday. I've got another thing to consider in regards to ironman 2014 - I sat down and did some research today about wich races I could do. Each has it's own pluses and minuses. My three options are Iron Man Mont Tremblont in Quebec (Good beer, takes place before school, close for the whole family but smack dab in the middle of our usual time in MI), OR Rev3 Cedar Point. Cheaper and close to my fam in OH, but smack dab at the start of school and a long car ride, OR Ironman Chattanooga (a great time of the year and no need for a hotel but flying the fam. down is going to be killer). Thoughts? |

Thoughts? IMWI!!! I had a blast at Rev3 Dells - reasonable prices, good experience. It doesn't get you the M-Dot tattoo though - only a 140.6. Cedar Point is pretty awesome though. That race is on my bucket list, but conflicts with Ironman Wisconsin for me. Seriously, it is very aggrivating that IMWI and Rev3 Cedar Point are the same weekend. They should be like three months apart Rev3 Cedar Point - 1,411 feet of climbing IM Chattanooga - 2,100 feed of climbing IMMT - 5,600 feet of climbing Personally, I'm a flat-lander. |

Well if you like flat, you could always join up with Alex to do Ironman FLA next year(watch out for Sharks though!). I have to image it would make Cedar Point Hill seem hilly. Where did you find the info about the climbing? I'm making a spread sheet with the hopes of picking out the best event for me. Right now Cedar Point is beating out Mont Tremblant by a nose... I'd love to do IMWI - but it is right at the start of the school year (I know - Cedar Point is too - but I'm from Cleveland and wouldn't have to pay for a hotel)... I would be willing to bet that if you put a gun to the CEO of Rev 3 - they might admit that they scheduled it on the same day on purpose. With REv races so cheap... I've got to think they are trying to get people to chose their series... Just a thought. |

I am still slowly working towards getting my game on for crawl towards signing up for the Austin70.3 at the end of October. I saw my sports Chiro just to check on my hamstring that has been nagging me since my April 70.3. Not too much of a pain but just enough to be a pain in the butt (literally). He thinks it is fine and I won't hurt it. Advised foam rolling like the dickens. I have taken that advice (I had been doing a fair amount but kicked it up). That seems to help. I guess it is time to toughen up. Let's get a good workout in this weekend ya'll. |

Expert 1058 Fallon, Nevada | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Closed Originally posted by kevinbe No new training to report. Just checking in with a beer report: I did make it to the "booze superstore". I picked up a Ruinten IPA from Stone, along with a six pack of their traditional iPA. I would put their IPA in my top 10. Looking forward to tasting the Ruinten as it has something like a 10.8% ABV. Also rekindled my love for German Hefe Weizen with a brew from Paulener and Hauf Brau. I've been to the HB brewery in Munchen before, so this was a trip down memory lane. Will start the evening off with the Paulener tonight, and move over to the Ruinten, with all intentions of turning in semi early for a 5am wake up and day 1 of lifting in the morning. Have not had the Loft by NB, or the nutbrown, but Maybe look for them next trip to the superstore. Happy training and racing BDAS Gotta love the Ruinten! |

Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Closed I dug my head outta my a$$ today and stopped feeling sorry for myself. I stepped in front of the mirror before heading to the pool and had a nice little chat. The short and clean version was "suck it up Nancy boy". Headed to the pool and sucked down a gel so I couldn't use no fuel in the body as an excuse. I got in the pool and busted out a 1k with a 30 sec rest and then popped out a 500. I should have broke them into sets but I really needed the self confidence of going the whole distance. At 2:36/100 I was happy since that was ~10 sec off my normal. Thanks for the reassurance about it being mental. I was headed to a real dark place about the swimming and second guessing my future plans. Hope everyone has a fun weekend planned. I would pay money to have been a fly on wall by the mirror.... Alex - that is awesome! It's all mental and telling yourself that you are the boss makes you the boss. I'm gonna take a page from your book and have a talk with myself. Your future is bright! You should make the most of the experience by creating a mantra for yourself that you can use in the future. "Suck it up Nancy Boy" is a good start. You the man! |

You and Fam can enjoy the awesomeness that is the worlds best roller coaster park after you kick A$$ on one flat REV 3. Your family will love you forever. It's a win/win. +, what good beer is in Quebec anyway, Labatt's? No thank you. (spoken for a Pacific Northwest pov.) Boo on Tremblant, Yeah on Cedar Point. Thoughts? Screw the Mdot, 140.6 makes you a bad a$$ regardless of corporate affiliation. If you have any leave saved up, you can plan it with your school ahead of time and take a week off to just chill and refocus after your crushing successful 140.6 finish. |

No Canuck needed, just an old fashioned kick in the a$$ from numero Uno. |
