purplehayes - 2006-08-18 9:54 AM You can put me down for another 5 commutes even though I haven't ridden home yet.

you also wrote early on:

Between now and Sept 1, I count 20 more working days. Put me down for at least 18 of them. That gives me a total of 68 commutes by bike.

So, what are you counting as a commute?  How do you get 68 commutes from 18-20 days of riding?  I've been counting them as round-trips.  I mean, what's the point of commuting by bike to work if you're going to either A. stay there all night or B. hitch a ride home.

Anyway, that counting difference could explain some of our goal (and progress) differences.

I meant that 68 would be my grand total by the time this challenge was over.

1 commute = round trip from home to work and back.

Sometimes my wife and I will drive in to work and I'll ride the bike home, that's how I got a .5 commute.

Oh, I get it now.  Sorry but I hadn't counted in all of your 50.5 rides since May 1st.  Now I see that we're counting in the same way.  1=round-trip and 0.5=one way.  Cool, cool.

Thanks for clarifying, and again, great job on logging all those commute miles!!

Cheers, -Sunny

Got another 4 in this week, for a total of 49. Looks like I will be one short, since I only have 5 more days of work.

But when that 5 days is done, it's time to play, right?  Maybe you can fit in a commute-like ride for your training or life-after-the-working-world errands, that or just a trip to the office to taunt your co-workers during lunch in that last week before "Labor Day".

Other way around. I'm taking off this upcoming week to use up the last of my vacation days, then I have one last week of work. After labor day weekend, I'll start up grad school, which I'm very excited about.

Nice rides, everyone.

I had motivational issues (read: couldn't get my butt out of bed in time) and only got 1 commute this week.

Got two more commutes in last week bringing my total to 28.

I'll get over 30, but I'm nowhere near where I should be. I also started riding a bit with someone from my neighborhood once or twice a week before work. I love commuting, but sometimes I just need the company.

I got cutoff by a car on the way home on Friday. Locked my brakes up to avoid getting hit and did a flip!

Bike is ok except for the dura-ace bar end shifter for my crank rings got bent a little and the plastic cover got torn.

Certainly won't discourage me from commuting!

Great job folks. I've made a personal commitment to bike commute twice a week for as long as the weather holds (i.e. no snow/ice). Started this 2 weeks ago (previously was doing once a week). Great way to get in some training and to save on the co$t of GA$.

I got a commute to the pool in on tuesday. That brings my total to 50, with 5 days of work left for me, I should be able to reach my goal if it doesn't rain.

Way to go everyone for getting out on the roads.

Put me down for another 5 this week. I think you mis-counted my commutes so far. My online log shows 65.5 commutes since May 1.

And even if it does rain... you should try to keep riding!

Today I had no choice (unless I wanted to fail on the challenge I'd set out for myself), so I went for it.  Ride 45 of 45 planned is done (well, almost, as I will be biking home later).  Vacation starts tomorrow and I'll be back to work on Labor Day, so keep up the good riding till then, everyone.  Especially you, JP!  Here's hoping for no (more) rain.

Cheers, -Sunny

Like usual, I'm late with my update. I tweaked my knee (ITB) last Saturday and it appears that it was due to cycling. I think I've got it figured out and should be better now. I only got one commute in this week bringing me up to 29.

Great job Sunny!

Getting in late on this, but my total May 1 - Sept 1 will be 70.

On Oct 1, I will mark two years of full-time bicycle commuting (~6 miles RT).
