Now, I'm not saying I feel wonderful, but there is something to that just-finished feeling! Congratulations!! That's a huge accomplishment (and I should know -- I did my first 10-miler only two weeks ago) and a fantastic way to kick off the challenge! It's scary what we're capable of, isn't it? I've got a bike in. I'd like to swim tonight, but I have a friend visiting from out of town so I'm not sure I'll manage it. That's the most amazing part of this sport...finding out how capable we are. Congrats on your 10-miler, too! That is a huge mental and physical milestone. |

But, what is your new avatar? It's the largest ball of twine. Someone told me that they still see the Philadelphia Eagle as my avatar. It's weird that he is still seeing that when I see the ball of twine. |

Get busy! Today is pretty good. I got my easy 30 minute run in at 5am and will meet some folks to go riding (short hill ride) this afternoon. Swim and possible ride tomorrow. my sister has started running/walking recently and I have been doing some runs with her. I love that she's running. She's just trying to lose baby weight, but after a while and after she's addicted i'll try and get her to a race |

Then, you can opt to sleep the rest of the month, or to raise your goals, and push yourself to meet the new goals. I'm never good at determining goals. Most of the time I just copy the times/distances from my schedule and depending on what I'm working on that month specificially (bike, run, or swim) I up that goal by a little. I tend to always go over on the bike, just right on the run, and scrape to get the swim in. I would say it's good to exceed it a little, since we are allowed to hit 110% on most challenges, but as far as challenging yourself I would say it's better to adjust your goal. My opinion, of course |

Champion 6285 Beautiful Sonoma County | Subject: RE: Avatar Avengers I have a difficult time setting appropriate goals too. Quite often, I've set what I think are reasonably challenging goals, only to have a serious problem reaching them. So this time, I set my goals a bit lower, and so far, so good. Well, except for the core thing. Dangit! I was too tired after my in-laws left last night to do anything other than a little laundry folding while watching left-over Giro coverage, and take a bath and go to bed. But I'll do some today, I promise! |

I need some added motivation sometimes. Plus, I love competition :-) Yep, that's how I do it: I look at what I've got scheduled for the month and base my goals on doing every one of those workouts. That way if I'm having a bad day and I want to skip a workout, well, I can, but I'll have to find a way to make it up if I'm going to meet my goals (and not let down the team!). I stayed away from challenges for a few months because I was on a pretty strict training plan and didn't really need the extra motivation, but this month I'm easing up on biking and swimming and I know if I don't have some sort of outside pressure I won't do them at all. And with that in mind, tonight I have my first swim and core workouts of the month. Yay! |
