Wow! Looking at all the totals from January was impressive.  You guys have a lot of good training going on.  Of course, you've made me realize how far behind I am.

My wife and I got back from Afghanistan a few days ago and we're in the process of getting settled in.  The bikes are at the shop getting serviced and we got our pool membership today.  Jorge is going to need to kick our butts into shape if we're going to be ready for this thing.

Is four months enough time?  I don't know, but we'll find out!

18 weeks is plenty of  time to get ready and Jorge will get you ready.  I think you have a good excuse being in a war zone.  Thanks again for serving our country and if I see you in CDA drinks are on me after the race.

Matt

Thanks, and hopefully I'm up for a few drinks after the race!

Jorge has a good plan, but we have to make the most out of the time we have left.  Very focused and efficient training.  Today we're swimming for the first time in a year and a half!

Weekend update time.  What does everyone have going on?

I'm doing 50 miles on the bike and 3200 yards swim on Saturday, then my first race of the season on Sunday (Take a Hike Ike sprint).  I keep missing my swim workouts so I really need to get that one in.

Anyone else?  Good luck and be safe.

I've got another hour on the bike tonight or tomorrow and a longer ride (2 hours?) on Sunday.  I'll also be a running fool.  Looking to get at least 15 in tomorrow (possibly 4 hours of trail running) and another 8-10 on Sunday.

I'm still adapting to training for all three sports, it's going well so far.

Medium run and ride tomorrow and longish ride on Sunday(50 miles).  I'm still waiting for the weather to get better so I'm not fighting wind and rain on all the workouts.

3200 meters sounds like a good swim.  I'm not up to that point yet...

I'm volunteering at CDA this year with the plan of registering on site for 2010.  Does anyone know how what the registration process is for volunteers?  Looking forward to supporting y'all.  I'm doing bike handling with a friend.  I'll try not to drop any of your bikes ;-)

Hello!
I volunteered in the Medical tent last year. I'm not sure about this year, but last year the volunteers were given the first opportunity to sign up for this year if they were interested; even before the athletes that had just competed. They had us be there the Monday after the race and we were able to quickly sign up. The volunteers work hard so I'm hoping they will extend the same courtesy to volunteers for this year.

Anywho, hope this helps!

So far, pretty good.  I need lots more biking.  I'll get plenty of running in the next month with McNaughton.

I agree.  I definitely didn't need the reminder on how close it is!

Loooong way to go with my swimming, the bike is coming around but still has a ways to go.  At least my run is strong (if I can make it that far).

100 days...geez

Thankfully the weather here has begun to really break. I rode in shorts last weekend and have run several times in shorts. So far so good, I've not been able to train as much as I'd like due to family committments but I feel like I'm in a decent place right now. Gradually building distances. If things stay like this I will be ready to do the race but I had hoped to be a little better trained. The things that have been limiting me cannot be helped.

Wow, 100 days.  That doesn't seem like very long!  As for me, things are progressing.  I just ran a PB in a half marathon and really surprised myself with my time.  All biking has been done on the trainer with the exception of two one-hour rides on my mountain bike - I can't wait for the roads to thaw out!  As for swimming, I'm still struggling to fit in that third swim each week.

Good attitude! That's why we're age groupers and not pros. Play the cards that you are dealt.

So far so good.  It looks like it is finally starting to warm up in Chicago, so hopefully I can get outside on my bike soon.  Starting to ramp up the run training a little bit more.

Oops!  I meant swim, bike, swim run/shuffle for 140.6 miles!

To answer my own question, at the 100 day mark I feel like I am in a better position than I was 2 years ago for my swim, bike, and nutrition.  My run on the other hand is nothing like it used to be.  That's ok.  My primary goal is to get off the bike with the energy and stomach to shuffle 26.2.  That definitely was not the case in 2007.

Now I just need the weekend rain/cold to go away.  I have an 80 mile bike scheduled tomorrow followed by another 40 miles on Sunday.  I am SO sick of the trainer!

It was 100 days but I did not see this until it was 99 to go.  That kind of sums up my training so far, just a little behind where I want to be.

For the bike I have lots of trainer time but very little real road time.  The snow and ice needs to go away.  I feel good about where I am at for the run, however I still need to ramp up my long runs a bit.  The swim... all I want to do is get out of the water on race day.

I was going great until I crashed  on a ride last weekend.  That and the weather here in Houston kinda took the wind out of my sails.  I'll be back on it this weekend.  Its a rest week anyway so I'm not taking it to hard.

I am relieved after reading these replies to se there are a few other worriers out there; I have had a week of some bouts of hesitation and stress about the race.  I've come a long way on the bike this year and need to continue to focus on improving my shotty running skills so I can also ... shuffle it out .  Also, I'm eager for warmer -water- weather in order to get some OWS going... Need to start getting some gear (clothing) testing in so I can figure out what works best in advance of race day.  I normally just train in tees and shorts/bike pants, etc.

SO: just concerns over having an avg swim and just completing the run within my time goal. ... newbie stuff!

all is going well in MD. Swim awesome, no problems. Bike awesome! did 4 hrs the other day and felt great. Run... sucks. Was going along, getting some good mileage in and strained a calf out of nowhere. I am resting it and cranking up my riding and doing some drills in the pool to work on the calf. I just hope it heals so i can get back to my training schedule.
