This is my first HIM event.  I have done some sprints and OLY.

It seems odd to me that an event would have swim wave starts be negative by age = youngest starting last (except pros).  I understand that this might save the race event a little time (an hour or an hour and a half) but it seems that it causes great problems for, on average, the faster people that have to move through a ton of slower people.

I say this as someone that is a decent swimmer but not great navigator (racer).  I just don't yet have the experience to navigate through a bunch of people effortlessly.  Yes, my times are decent.

So, I am worried about this a little.

Just venting.

No- I don't believe you can. Check out the USAT website- they'll give you an overview of their rules.

This is an absolute NO! Officals can enforce anything from time penalties to DQ.

When does FL HIM cap?  Might have to run back to the hotel (Shades of Green) to transition if it doesn't reach max capacity soon!

Saw many reviews stating that all legs in '07 and '08 were long; anyone know if the course was adjusted?

Gracias all, happy training...

Last year some of the Tri's I did allowed ipods because they said USAT was changing the ipod rule.  I guess I am going to have to make it through 13.1 WITHOUT Will Smith being Jiggy with me.Frown

USAT rules still include a no headphones policy, plus, the run course is very tight at certain points because it is all trails, so you will need to hear other runners.

If you havent started hydrating by now, your behiind the 8ball....lol
We are just now starting to get nice weather in Atlanta. Really need a few good days in the heat.
Finished my 3rd, 12 mile run today 1:51:50, 9:19 pace.
Would LOVE to run that pace after coming off the bike. ~~
Have a 14mi run planned for Tuesday, then another 60mi bike on wed.
Doing the Langley Pond Intl Tri next weekend in Aiken SC. Just using it as a long training day for 70.3
One more hard week after that, then its time to start tapering.

I did an open water swim at Lucky's on Saturday.  It was a cold start but warmed up after the first few yards.  Very good practice!

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but it looks like registration is now closed at 2,654 competitors.

That's a lot right?

Here is another newbie question:

What is your hydration plan, and if you have done this before, what was your hydration plan and did it work?  I am planning on bringing 2 20oz bottles of Sustained Energy on the bike with me, but after that is gone then what?  Do they have porto johns at every station?  Do they have bottles of water you can take on the bike?  What do you do with the garbage?  For the run I am planning on bringing gatorade and maybe SE.  What are the chances they will run out of water????

Also, when do we set up our transition spot?  Do we do it the morning of the event or when we register our bike?

Less than four weeks.....

I have not done FL 70.3, but in my previous 70.3 I have 2 20oz bottles and 1 24oz gaterade. Took another 24oz gatorade on the at the aid station. This year I have an aero bottle, so plan on using that. There is always the chance they could run out of water, but is typically unlikely. However, you need to have a mental plan for all situations. I typically try to bring all the nutrition I need with me and then take something from the aid station if i can/need too. At aid stations you can drop garbage on the ground. Transtions are set up in the morning. You can only leave your bike the day before. NO pump, bag, etc... is allowed.

Last year for hydration I had my aero drink filled with a mix of 1/2 H2o, 1/2 Gatorade. A second 20 oz. bottle of all Gatorade and a third bottle on my seat rack of just frozen water to squirt off/drink if needed.
I also had in my binto box/taped to my top tube:
2 Hammer bars, choc peanut butter.
and 3 Power Gels.
I took one bottle of Gatorade at the second water station, skipping the first and 3rd as I still had a good supply on-board.
During the ride I drank at will making sure to drink at least the aero bottle and one of the 20 oz. bottles of 50/50 mix.
I also ate one gel within the first 15mins on the bike, then alternated between one bar at the hr mark, then a one gel 45 mins later, then a bar 45mins after that, then a gel 45mins later etc, during the ride.
I believe I went thru a total of 2 gels and 1.5 bars, plus 2.5 bottle of gatorade/water mix during the ride.
In T2 I had a bottle of Ensure I stached in my running shoe and 2 advil.
Then on the run I drank .5 cup of gatorade and a few sips of water at every other water station. I also put ice in my running cap to keep me cooled off.
I took Power Gels as needed about every 45mins during the run.
But remember, EVERYONE is different and you should be testing your OWN hydration/fuel needs NOW in training to see what works for you.
Most of your other question are answered in the Athlete Guide.

Reminder to anyone out there (I learned the hard way last year). Cover up your shoes somehow before going to the swim start. It is Florida and a quick sunshower can pop up out of nowhere. I left t2 last year with shoes that were already pretty wet. Not sure what I will do to cover them this year, but they will be covered somehow. Good luck to all, this thing is coming up fast!!

You will need to bring your own or hope someone around you is nice enough to let you borrow theirs.

Last year there was a bike store that had plenty of people to help out and actually were pumping up people's tires for them.
