See you Sunday...or Saturday if you come out to help set up... Last year, it was group men, then group women, then TT start, right? Yep, that's how I remember it. |

I don't remember If it helps KzooJason (Jason/Me) is from Kalamazoo but I don't think I've ever actually met anyone from BT in person. Fortunately it appears that KzooJason76 and I are the only KzooJason's around. There is a kzoogirl and a kzoo_camp but they don't seem to be active anymore. The Kzoo madness is, for now contained. Expert 1452 Troy, MI | Subject: RE: Hawk Island Triathlon : Official Thread KzooJason - 2009-05-29 3:29 PM Howdy everyone. I'll be at Hawk Island and this will be my first tri... I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! Does anyone know if it's possible to change your race start option on race day? After a few of the comments on this thread, I think I'm in favor of switching from individual to group start. It won't completely bum me out if I can't but I'd hate to miss out on the "full experience". See you Sunday! Jason
This was my first tri last year. I had signed up for individual but ended up just going in the water with the group. I was too nervous to go on my own. I wanted others to see my floating body and alert someone if I drowned. Anyway, it didn't matter which you did, they don't keep tabs on you. You are timed from a start pad so its whenever your chip crosses be it with the group or with the individual. I'm sure I'm not the only one who changed her mind on race day. Swim happy! |

Veteran 144 Ann Arbor, MI | Subject: RE: Hawk Island Triathlon : Official Thread spartn1 - 2009-05-29 2:58 PM An update to the ongoing saga...where will the run go? There is now an inch of water a 15 foot stretch of the potential revised course and it's getting deeper...no idea what's going to happen yet. Maybe there will be a second swim portion? oh poop! that stinks! i was really hoping to keep my feet dry because i was planning on running with no socks...and my minimalistic race flats... |

Extreme Veteran 446 Mason | Subject: RE: Hawk Island Triathlon : Official Thread I'll be out there tomorrow helping set up from noon on, so I can give a better water report tomorrow evening. At last report the folks on Ruth St and Willard St. off Aurelius have stopped catching fish in the middle of their road (the water's subsiding due to pumping). With any luck they can turn off the pumps tomorrow sometime which will allow the trail area (unfortunately that's where some of the water is going) can dry out. If it rains no more the water may subside enough to stick to the original route, who knows. |

Veteran 316 Grass Lake, MI | Subject: RE: Hawk Island Triathlon : Official Thread Wow.. looks like KzooJason and Kzoojason76 (me) are popular!! Who would have thought our names would have brought this much attention. Maybe it's because the best university in the state is in Kalamazoo!! (note that I'm a WMU alumni) I'm the kzoojason76 that is living in Ann Arbor, but soon to be moving to Grass Lake. I'm married to Jamie (jameski20). We met a good number of people at the Unofficial Training Day at ILRA, and also a training day at Hawk Island. Ok.. I'm guess I'm just rambling keeping my mind off the race tomorrow. This is my first, and I'm excited!! Thanks for making a first-timer feel popular!! - Jason (kzoojason76 from Ann Arbor, and not the other KzooJason from Portage) |

Extreme Veteran 446 Mason | Subject: RE: Hawk Island Triathlon : Official Thread FYI the run was officially changed to an out and back. It's a nice run that goes by the very wet sycamore golf course... As of 545 they were still working out the kinks with the transition area. Folks will have an assigned space based on their number and each bike gets about 18" of space. Any other questions let me know. |

Drown - Nah, just take deep breaths, and keep swimming. Crash - Keep your eyes on the road and mind the rules of the road, no problems. Knee - Then slow down or take a break if it does. No shame in walking. Last Place - Better than not starting. Everyones way - You can control that. Stay to the right and allow others to pass on the left. However, based on your bike speeds mentioned, you shouldn't see too much passing. You will likely be passing THEM! Ostracization of the MI tri crowd - Only happened once, and it was a long story dealing with chili, a swim cap, and WAAAAAAAYYYYY too much body glide. Nervous, sure. Take some deep breaths, get a good nights sleep, and know that your BT friends are there to help you iron out any kinks in the morning. See you tomorrow. |

Susan Hi Susan, I was just reading this thread and wanted to make one recommendation... Yes, the ponytail for your hair is a good choice. However, your tendency may be as mine used to be which is to put it high on your head so as to make getting your swim cap on easier. However, this is BAD when you try to get your bike helmet on. I recommend putting the ponytail low enough to get your helmet on comfortably before the race and then do what you need to do to stuff everything up under your swim cap. I usually hang my head upside down... Nothing like wasting a bunch of time in transition having to mess with a pony tail adjustment... I was a nervous wreck last year so I know exactly how you feel. Take that energy and make it work for you. You're gonna have a GREAT race!! See ya soon! |

I'm just guessing, this is my first also and am nervouse and excited. See you in the morning.
