Update - Stage 8 – Andorre-la-Vieille to Saint-Girons, 176.5km, July 11th

Caisse d'Epargne's Luis Leon Sanchez won Saturday's second day in the Pyrenees, a 176-km romp from Andora back into France for the start of the race's second week. Cervélo’s Thor Hushovd, the stage 6 winner snagged two intermediate sprints to take the green-jersey lead away from Columbia’s  Mark Cavendish, who was not among the leaders over the first summit, although he did rejoin the yellow jersey group before the start of the next climb. Cavendish's teammate Hincapie grabbed the second place points at both the intermediate sprints to minimize the damage to Cav's points position. Columbia's Tony Martin retains his white jersey.

The peloton winds its way towards the summit of Port d'Envalira

Sadly, no, I spent the weekend partying! Literally! In the space of 2 days I attended a 30th, a 50th/52nd and a 1st birthday party!!! And had breakfast with another friend who wasn't celebrating a birthday. But I am not too worried, I've completed almost 50% of my goal so I am on track

Madness in the mountains - The pack with American seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, bottom left with black helmet, climbs Serra-Seca pass during the seventh stage of the TdF.  The 224 kilometer (139 miles) stage, the longest on the Tour this year, features the category 1 Col del Serra-Seca before the climb to Arcalis, which is classified "beyond category." The final ascent is 6.5 miles long and has an average gradient of 7.1 percent.

Holy carp.

Hey all!  Sorry I've been so quiet and that I'm so far behind on my goals (I'm thinking they will have to be readjusted!).  I have been really sick and today is the first day in a week that I've been able to get up and move around.  Needless to say, training has been at a stand still and I'm not sure when it will start back up...

On plan for today: 2 stages.  Need to catch up, so I'm thinking one short ride and then a nice long one again later in the evening.  My training log has been too void of bike rides lately and that needs to change.

Hope you get better soon.  I think Challenge Rule #8 below will allow you some adj in the goals, just check with Cat.  First things first,  get well first.

kaqphin - 2009-06-22 10:40 PM

Challenge Rules:

8. If you have a temporary set back such as an illness (i.e a cold) then I will be using the following equation to calculate your goal reduction (if required). Total Goal/23 days (of the challenge) * number of days out of action = goal reduction for the challenge.

9. 24 hour BAN (code of silence) on discussing action from the Tour in your team thread. This applies (basically) from when one stage starts to when the next stage finishes... (I will be posting reminders on this regularly)

YAY!!!  Great tour so far, don't you think?  I think Columbia-HTC's Cavendish is one of the most exciting rider to watch these days.  Then there's the Armstrong comeback this yr.  The excitment continues...
