I am making chinese tonight but subbing Shirataki noodles for the rice/noodles in my stir fry.  Looking really forward to it as I have not had chinese in a long time.

That sounds really yummy!

I met with my nutritionist - she actually wants me to up my calories along with increasing my %fat and %protein. She thinks I've gone catabolic and that's why my body fat % is so much higher then I expected and why I've been struggling to lose weight. She says my muscles will respond to the increase in calories and protein. I'm very nervous about eating more as it seems counter-intuitive. Has anyone had success by bumping UP their calories? I'm going to give it a shot starting next week, so I hope I can still meet my goal weight!

I've tweaked my losing weight eating plan and increased my protein and fat intake as well and significantly lowered my carbs.

I can't say that I've actually had this problem but it makes total sense...I'm anxious to hear how it works for you!

And what the heck are shirataki noodles?

That sounds tasty!  I really wish I liked the Shirtaki noodles.  I've seen a bunch of recipes on the Hungry Girl site using them, and I have a running friend who eats them quite often and loves them.  I've tried them twice and really want to like them, but it's just not happening.  I guess I'll just have to stick with my Carba-Nada noodles even though they're more calories.  They're still less than regular pasta though.

And what the heck are shirataki noodles?

They're noodles made from tofu and yam flour.  Accordingly, they are low-carb and very low-calorie.  If memory serves, the entire 8 oz. bag is only 40 calories or something ridiculously low like that.  Here is a link:

There is a thread that was started about how often you weigh yourself which kind of made me chuckle since I recently made myself stop with the addiction of the scale.  I got to a point where I was weighing myself at least once a day ~ which as you know is NOT an accurate showing of how much you actually weigh.  Sooo, I have vowed to myself that I would weigh myself once a week and with this challenge I will do it on weigh day ONLY.  I know that using things besides weight (like how my clothes fit or how I'm feeling) is a much better guage anyway but I find myself reaching for that dang scale but.  However, I refuse to let myself fall for it by stepping on (until Thursday that is!)

Now that you all know my internal scale debate, I'm just curious how often you weigh yourself?  Do you skip the scale all together and use other guages like how your clothes fit?  Are you more concerned with BF than with weight?

Ok, that totally peaks my curiosity so I am going to have to see if I can find them here!  Thanks for the info!

Those noodles sound really interesting. My dad's on a low carb diet right now so that might be a good compromise for the family. Are they satisfying/filling? I'm guessing the protein in the tofu helps make it more satisfying.

I have the same issue. Although I seem to give into the temptation too much. I aim for once a week but sometimes I jump on every morning. I really should break that habit. Maybe I need to quit the scale and just go by measurements/size of clothing anyway.

They are very good and take on flavor pretty well.  Come packaged in fluid and ready to eat.  Just be sure to open while holding nose.  Pour into strainer and rinse for a bit.  They have a fishy smell and it rinses off but pretty foul smelling when you first open them.  I have used them to make low-carb chili, spaghetti and planned to do chinese.  I forgot my son had a ball game so I headed straight from work to the game.  Stopped at Subway and ate a roasted chicken sub sans the loaf of bread it's served on.  If you are shopping for them they will be in the refridgerated vegitarian section.

@Happychick:  I have never met a scale I didn't like.  My wife teases me but I am obsessed with my scale.  I weigh everytime I am in the bathroom.  Having said that, I don't put much stock in al of my mid-week weigh-in's.  I only count what happens on Monday mornings...and now thursdays.

I also have one of those internal scale debates constantly going on.  It's no good.  I recently got into the bad habit of weighing myself once per day, as soon as I wake up in the morning.  I need to get back to once or twice per week, especially because of daily weight fluctuations.  No need to drive ourselves crazy.  Once a week, twice per week max is quite enough!

I LOVE the noodles! I get mine from miraclenoodle.com. I heard about them through Ben Greenfield's podcast. They are a great substitute for regular pasta. So far, I've made a stir-fry and spaghetti type dish with them. I highly recommend them.

I'm guilty of being a daily weigher, although I only count my weigh in on Friday mornings as my "official" weigh in for the week.  I am a bit of a numbers geek, so I kind of enjoy seeing how different foods affect my weight on a daily basis.  Because of that, I've learned to not eat soups, microwave popcorn, or cheese the day before my weigh in because they always cause my weight to spike a bit.

I used to be a daily weigher, too, but I'm reforming for this fall.   I'm not going to stress myself out about it now.  If I want to weight, I will.  But, I'm keeping my 'official' day on Wednesday so I can be consistent with the weeks.

I've also increased my protein and fat intake lately.  I found a recipe book called the Flat Belly Diet, which stresses mono-unsaturated fats within each meal.  I don't necessarily drink the kool-aid with what the diet preaches, but the recipes sounded yummy, so I picked it up.  So far, I've tried chicken with walnuts and pomegranate sauce, which was great.  I found a good granola recipe in it, too.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

I was driving home listening to my Jillian Michaels podcasts and she started talking about an article in self magazine about cooking with juices and she specifically talks about stir-fry. I thought of your shirataki noodle stir-fry and thought it'd be a good article to share here. I never would have thought to stir-fry with juice instead of oil!

Thanks for the book rec, I will definitely check it out! I've been looking for a good granola recipe for some time now, most that I've found seem too sugary.

As for weighing, I mostly weight once a day, first thing in the morning. However, if I know I ate something that will show the day before (chinese, popcorn, soup), I won't weigh for fear of what I will see. Terrible I know, but 3-5 pounds in one day can kill my self-image for the day even though I know it's only sodium. For example, I haven't weighed in since Sunday because I've been eating soup this week

First time I've been able to post since the start of the month so ...

Starting weight 227lb

Target 206lb (wouldn't it be great to be 199!)

In the past, whenever I would go on a weightloss kick I would weigh myself every day. The slightest increase or no change from day to day would deeply effect me and would eventually lead me to giving up. Stupid I know. I wanted weightloss fast and great...like the biggest losers

For this challenge, I'm going to weigh myself only on weigh-in days, therefore, once a week. I think that will help me maintain a positive outlook through the journey.

I'm an every day weigher but do find my mood can be effected by the number. I do like seeing the drop in number though I find it motivating. I want this for me and the number today shouldn't make a difference how I feel about me. I know what I ate yesterday. We women with hormones, training, water retention issues my weight can jump all over the place.

I'm considering weighing less often.

Is it too late to join?  Ive been away for awhile and want/need to get back to accountability.  If I can join in, my starting weight is 194.  I would like to be 174 by Dec 25.  Is that possible.  Figuring 2 pounds a week....

I love listening to her podcasts!  I probably have most of them from the past 3 years on my computer at home.  I was so sorry when she gave up her radio show earlier this year.  I live in Los Angeles and her show used to be part of my Sunday morning routine.

CHRISTY!!!!!  It is so good to "see" you again...of course you can join!  2 lbs a week is totally doable ~ you just have to commit yourself (and I know you can do it ~ as long as you stick around and allow yourself to be harassed by the rest of us!)

i shouldn't...but i do...weigh myself every day (oops).  i know it's bad.  and not accurate...but, i can't not.  I am, for the most part, mostly concerned about bf loss...but i haven't seen consistent bf loss or weight loss in so long that i can't say i have a real gage...Undecided  hopefully that's about to change!!
