Subject: RE: St. Anthony's Triathlon : Official ThreadPutting that 3,800 number in perspective: There were only 3,019 finishers in 2010. I think registration of approx. 3,700 (as of 10 days ago) is a healthy turnout. I heard lots of grumbling about the shortened swim, as well as the fury with the cancelled swim in 2009. I think last year's race registration took a hit as a result of the cancelled swim. There were about 3,684 finishers in 2009 (with over 3,800 registered). I did the race in 2006; they closed registration after about 3,700. Registration closed in a matter of hours. They pulled about 80 people out of the water that year. I'd be surprised if people were holding back due to the involvement of the WTC. I think the swim course if the biggest factor. Additionally, we've seen a proliferation of events in this area. Lots of competition for your leisure dollars and not just within triathlon. Lastly, registration is now $160; it was $125 when I did it (if I remember correctly). That's without the active.com fees included. It's gotten pricier but it still fills up. Edited by Renee 2011-04-11 9:10 PM
