Sounds cool regardless though! Might as well do it since phlebotomy is your treatment option anyways! No one else will take my blood. I tried with the Red Cross, and the local blood bank. They wouldn't even take it to throw it away. If Bethesda can take it and give it to someone else, or use it for research I'd rather have that done than have it drawn and thrown out. I was actually doing a search to see if I could still be an organ donor when I came across that. Oh...I'm just questioning what the "study" part of it is...are they trying to see if they can purify the RBCs from pts with HC to then transfuse them? It sounds like a great program regardless though. The Red Cross has tons of restrictions due to historical problems (hep B/C, HIV, etc ) so they don't take your blood to avoid hemolytic rxns/infections/other random problems in recipients, etc. I have a gay friend who gets pretty aggravated that he can't donate due to historical president. HC is technically probably fine, but I think they would have to wash the cells...I doubt they would be able to use your plasma though. |
