Diorios 231 Bank St Waterbury, CT 06702/; (203) 754 - 5111 is a really good italian place.  There is not much right near middlebury, but a bunch of places within about 20 minutes.

John, here is the link again: http://www.maggiemcflys.com/ordereze/default.aspx?flash=false

I originally posted it from my iPhone and for some reason it won't space properly from my phone.  The link should work now.

Theres a new resturant right near quassy (although I think it was open last summer too).  Its 2 minute car ride east of quassy.

http://www.junipersct.com/

Also you have a pizza place right across the street from the place I just linked.  Those are the nearest food establishments near quassy.

How is everyone feeling?

I am getting very excited! The game plan is to wash the sweat and grime off the bike tonight and start packing. Heading up sometime on Saturday mid morning to cheer the oly folks.

Hope everyone has a great race, is there any type of BT meet up planned?

Does anyone who has done this race previously know if the mandatory briefing is really mandatory?  Just noticed that the rules say that every athlete must attend the mandatory meeting before packet pickup but that packet pickup starts three hours before the first mandatory meeting.  If I try to pick up my packet at noon, will they tell me to come back after 3 pm after I've attended a briefing?  Thanks.

They take attendance and if you are not marked as present, you will not be allowed to Race.  I kid, I kid.  Hmmm... yeah, I don't remember a race briefing last year.  I hung around to hear all the pro's interviewed, spent quite a bit of time at the expo, don't even remember a race briefing,

Thanks.  Just didn't want to scramble to get up there early only to find out I couldn't check in for another couple of hours.  You joke but what you describe (required attendance or no race) is exactly the way it works at the NYC Tri - no briefing, no packet, no race.  You have to get stamped on your way out of the briefing room before they even let you into the packet pickup room.

Everyone have a great race and good luck!

Last year I caught part of the briefing but no attendance was taken - seemed like they were just reviewing the basic tri rules and schedule - all stuff that's been published.   Based on the number of people I saw there, I cant imagine it was a "hard" requirement.

Checked into my hotel prepping everything for tomorrow morning.

Had a great day today other than RIPPING A HOLE IN MY WETSUIT!!!!!

Its not a huge hole and its down at the bottom of the leg cuff so it shouldn't affect anything. Did a practice swim today with it and didn't even notice it. All it means is that I'm going to have to buy a new wetsuit now, something I wasn't planning on doing this summer.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

Oh and that Maggie McFlys was really good food. Had a great dinner, of course half of it had to be put into a doggy bag.

2 weeks and we do griskus oly, same blasted hills (fortunately only 25 miles of them) - Bonus: you get to run that last 1.5 miles of the run course 2x.  yeah.

SO, how did everyone make out?  Thoughts??

I made out well.  I took off like 17 mins and change from last year.  Had a good swim and got my nutrition in me early on the Bike.  I gotta say though, I HATE that Bike course.  I mean, it's beautiful but the Hills are just BRUTAL.  I'm more of a rolling hills kind of guy.  I was just thinking about the bike and like 40% is sweeping descents, 40% is grinding up hills, and maybe 20% is flat.

I was talking with another Long Islander on the ferry on the way back home, and his chain broke at mile 40.  Tech support fixed it and after one of the big descents he went to pedal, and the chain locked and pulled his derailleur into his wheel and cracked four spokes.  Thank God he was on a flat part and he didn't get hurt.  I couldn't imagine that happening in the middle of one of those descents.

Yeah, but overall we had perfect weather yesterday.  Hope everyone had a good race.

I had a goal of 6hrs and came in at 5:59:59.796  - unbelievable.  I improved by about 15 minutes from last year.  Couldn't be happier.

Yeah, for me Running is my strength so aside from 3 climbs on the run (the K-Swiss Mile 3.5 to 4.5; the climb around mile 8 up to that aid station; and that freaking dreadul last 1/2 mile climb at mile 12 that winds around)  the Run was not that bad for me.  The Bike was just punch in the face after punch in the face.
