Master 1346 Gold Coast | Subject: RE: July Battle of the Sexes rnihill - 2011-07-11 12:45 AM Got an awesome ride in outside today. I had planned on going an out and back 20 miles, but decided to veer off into the countryside. So glad I did since it was just so quiet and gorgeous out there this morning. Ended up with a little over 25 miles. Now I'm off to get my suit off and play in the sprinkler and kids pool! Sounds like a fun ride Rhoda! I had a good ride too. Friends were staying with us and bought an extra guest who is a triathlete. She had bought her bike so we went out together. It was so nice to ride with someone for a change and I have a new tri friend too |

Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: July Battle of the Sexes You know, you'd never know it from the amount I've swam lately... But water is home. I am/was a swimmer. Don't remember not knowing how to swim, grew up a swimmer, only rode a bike to get to a friend's house. I used to joke that I "didn't do land sports". How do heck do I end up with bike short tan lines and a busted up toenail 6 days before my brother's wedding?? Ack! |

On the other end of the spectrum, we all know I loathe swimming but now I am irate because our pool has extremely restricted hours for the next 10 days because Michael Phelps and his fellow US team mates are taking it over! |

I do not quite remember when I have last felt so awful. Oh, right the Bali tri, but that was only an hour or so of agony after I got hit. 3:30 and a nice 2nd place medal in the books. I am going to pass out now.
10k swim! God God, that sounds awful.... |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: July Battle of the Sexes Sorry team, but I missed one of my two goals for the month. I wanted to go sub 2:15 on an Olympic distance race. Unfortunately, I went 2:18:04. Not sure what happened, but my swim split was much slower than anticipated. Pretty frustrating, considering I thought I had a good swim until I looked at my watch exiting the water. |

Phelps, Schmelps ... TJ Fry here on BT is hotter and almost as fast (and much faster on a bike and on his legs). Unfortunately, not even TJ can probably get you the pool hours you want ... actually, he might have, but he'd have needed an awful lot of advance notice. |

Pretty frustrating, considering I thought I had a good swim until I looked at my watch exiting the water. 2:15 for an Oly makes you one of the fastest guys on BT. That's just nuts!!! Anyhow, conditions change from year to year--maybe it was just a slow swim in general this year? In any case, 2:15 is 135min and 2:18 is 138, so you were within (say) 3min/135min or 2% of your goal. Hence, you actually get 98% for that particular goal. |

10k swim! God God, that sounds awful.... It is, in much the same way that a marathon or a metric century ride is awful -- well no, worse, since there ain't no scenery but glubglubglub and no real contact or connection with other competitors ... but I must confess, I think I am terribly addicted. There are also some very odd things that happen to you during 3.5 hours of immersion in salt water with exertion that wouldn't on land (or without exertion). I am hoping that some of these niggles can be sorted out or mitigated so I can do 15K, 25K swims (yes, I might actually train for these) ... I would really like to do a marathon swim eventually, as in, one of the 40-50K swims. |

Egads, sounds like you might be moving to Melbourne eventually to start training for a crossing of the English Channel (our bay in winter is supposed to be the same conditions as the actual channel, hence why anyone from around these parts who wants to do a channel crossing relocates to Melbourne for a winter) Secretly I would love to one day do a channel crossing as well, pretty amazing feat when you consider more people have climbed Everest than have swum the channel. |

Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: July Battle of the Sexes Oh! But before I go, I have a question for you veterans who have torn off a toenail before... Is it going to kill tomorrow if I try to swim at the pool? It looks nasty and like it might sting... But I desperately need to get in the pool! But I don't want to wake up early to go over if I'm going to be screaming like a SOB wth every lap. |

Extreme Veteran 668 Melbourne | Subject: RE: July Battle of the Sexes Is the toenail completely off? I seem to remember there was no pain once the toenail was completely gone, the only pain I had was when it was still hanging on by a tiny bit. I'd rip the sucker completely off if not gone already and you should be fine. Otherwise try putting your foot in a bucket of water for a bit (maybe with some salt?) and get your answer now before you head off in the morning. |

Elite 3913 far northern CA | Subject: RE: July Battle of the Sexes Forgot to mention that I rode in the Tour of Loleta 13 mile fun ride on Sunday. I rode my husband's mountain bike, which was too big for me, and pulled 30 pounds of toddler in the bike trailer. There was one steep hill up to the turnaround at a lighthouse. Several people got off their bikes to walk up the hill. I powered up and was asked if I had a motor in the trailer. I responded with "yes, a motor mouth!" |

I've been having some serious equipment malfunctions between running shoes and goggles! Look at the leaky goggles as good practice for the wave starts where you cop a foot in the face and lose your goggles. Good goggles are hard to find, I've got a favourite brand I used to use, however after my personal research showed every 1 in 2 leaked really bad I stopped buying them after the 4th pair. I've gone back to the simplest pairs I can find now |
